Shutter Speed
As I travel at warp speed
Through time, it seemed
Motionless and surreal
As my molecules
Tries to catch-up
With my body
Giving away my
Sense of smell
Touch and sight
Until I explode...

To be as wise as an owl is actually absurd
because the owl is one of the least intelligent birds.
It's also the skunk's only successful predator as well
because the owl doesn't have a sense of smell....

Three am now
Faerie magic is afoot
The witching hour

The house is silent
Spirits try for attention
I know they are here

I sense and smell them
Because my family is fey
Sometimes they throw things...

I can smell the aroma of a stew cooking,
but my dog can smell every single individual ingredient,
and a bear can smell all of that in a sealed container,
locked inside a sealed cooler,
locked in a garage,
locked in the trunk of a car,
anywhere from 1 to 3 miles afar....

Wolf Within
Under the blood moon sky
The urgency to release the wolf from within
Shredded skin lying on the foliage
Bones expanding to animal metamorphosis state
A heightened sense of smell intensifies
The blood lust is irresistible with every heartbeat
Then a deep, long howl into the darkness....

There's an old woman living in a shack Seems she had a stink coming from a crack Then COVID came and destroyed Peoples' sense of smell and left a void Now all her friends and family are back

He Flew Home
He flew home
nothing remained
only her.
Houses and neighbors
had shrunk into footnotes.
His dog had lost its sense of smell
- was not well.
The roots of the town
had rotted beneath the forgotten
and disowned.
The whole damn country
had been re-landscaped.
He did not fit anymore
except into her -
that was more than enough....

John Crow
It hovers around
waiting in the air
perfect time to land
to salvage
Keen sense of smell
I can't detect
but I know where
it wants to go
The night a friend
to an enemy
snuffed him away
an innocent
Sad....
the owner regains
soil becomes the keeper
of the body
 the soul...in the heart
It flies away
 the sweet fragrance gone....

In Every Sense
In every sense I smell his love
When the pure-scented moonlight bathes my window
Reflecting its tresses inside and the night-breeze
Spills a bouquet exploding of wonderful colors
Of evocations to mind which stroke perfumed
Warm touch on my glowing skin courted
By lavender whispers of memory… hmm…there
In every sense I smell his love....

Madness
Madness
Take my eyes
I have no more use for them
Blindness is so much more
Than what I use them for
And my sense of smell
Take that as well
I have no use for it
No more the world of roses bloom
In this wretched, sightless place
Madness
Take everything
For I have gone insane
No more to bear this weight of life
Madness
Save my soul...

Fresh Future
D-awn of the fresh future
O-pens first of January;
N-ine more nights to go,
A-ll we do is wait and see.

R-eaching the fresh future
I-s allowing the past to end;
V-iew of fireworks is expected,
E-arly December twenty-second.
R-ay of light has taken over, giving hope to the venture;
A-im to sense and smell the scent of fresh future....

Senses
What are Senses?
A sense of touch
A sense of smell
A sense of faith.

What happens when they are gone?
Scattered to the wind
Weathered by the storm
Coming up empty.

What do we do then?
Start from scratch
Back to the drawing board
Turning over that leaf.

Will we ever be the same?
Time is indifferent
Wounds will heal
Scars remain....

Coffee Poetry
Coffee Poetry

blowing

smelled the coffee
out of each breath

like smoke
in the combustion

expand thoughts

coffee’s fragrant
piercing the sense of smell
binding our heart

warmer
frame our heart
embrace life

surround
around

breathe

smell the coffee
evaporates
fuzzy

remaining
at the bottom of the cup
silent
hold dreams
and
memories

The Most Valuable Sense of All
The sense of sight…
To picture our world each day.
The sense of touch…
To kiss the pain and tears away.

The sense of smell…
As lungs fill with the air we breathe.
The sense of taste…
As flavors on the tongue they weave.

The sense of hearing…
For the music of children at play.

But the most valuable sense of all,

A sense of humor…
So no matter what, you can laugh each day....

The Soldier
The soldier ant
The army ant
A society, a race
By touch, sense and smell
Each knowing it’s place
Organisation, comradeship
The serving of their queen
A living mass of tens of thousand
Performing as one being
No arguing, no bitterness
No ego, no esteem
Just a living mass of meat eaters
Working as a team
Maybe so and maybe not
But could we learn from this
Society together
Sealed with a kiss
X...

Curse of Harmattan
The icy talons of nature
Claw for my soul
Leaving my body
A broken home

First, my sense of smell
Then, my power of speech.
Left distraught I was,
Incapable of roaming the earth

Wreaking havoc vengefully,
The dust of the earth did
Slither into my nostrils
And down my spine

And like gods against a man
The frost of stars fallen
And that which man was born of
Came with the curse of harmattan...

Our House
They roam their territory, out in their jungle
and with plenty too fell, it gives them a smile

It is their mobility, that makes them agile
with a sense of smell, here comes a new arrival

Not being revolutionary, because their home is not vial
they don’t have to yell, because that’s not their style

Well known in history, to which one is so vital
they should ring their own bell, to make sure they stay primal...

Animals can sense another's energy.
Some use their sense of smell, some just feel it instinctively.
At one time we too possessed this ability,
but when we evolved our high intellect, we lost it inevitably.
It's a trade off with evolution continually.
When we evolve a new ability, we lose another unfortunately.
They who claim to be empaths possess no psychic abilities.
It's just left over evolutionary baggage is what I believe....

Reminisce
The gutters flood with debris
lost receipts, tossed paper cups
dead leaves
I jump puddles
and duck into a dry setting
the strong scent of coffee
assaults my sense of smell
I see minor twenty first century poets
huddled in a corner
typing away on their devices
laughing at their own wit
I write in a little red notebook
with a pen
Stuck in the last century
child of the 80's
born in the 70's
growing old in the new millennium...

When I Read the Learned Poet
When I read the learned poet
Whose poem has words so magical,
I hear the sound of music
As melodious as a seagull.
Nothing compares to its grand power -
Every word edifies a castle's tower;
I sense the smell of the crimson rose
That bends a lady's gracious pose.
The poem in tempest creates a lull
With power to heal, the words dare speak.
Silently evoking illusions so quintessential
When finally I learned, I came to understand....

I smell a mountain goat she says
halfway through our wild walk.
Sure you do I almost gloat,
I won't indulge such silly talk.
But, sure enough 'round that next curve
it's standing there and looks at me as if to say
Hey there Bud, you've got some nerve,
and I ...
I do not doubt her sense of smell unto this very day!

Kitchen Perfume
To me, the sense of smell
Is very potent, and brings back memories....
Coffee brewing, pancakes, pasta sauce,
Baking meats, frying bacon...
And the very best, fresh baked, from scratch, bread.
Heavenly it makes the whole house,
and worth the hours of work involved...
These things are gone for me,
But in my memory.
So if ou cook for your family,
But you're awful tired too,
Remember you're building memories,
They'll always have of you....

I Know When You Are Around
You put a blindfold on me, so I cannot see. I have a plug in each ear. This is so I cannot hear. I wear thick insulated gloves as such. These are to inhibit my sense of touch. Sticking my tongue out would be a waste. There is nothing for me to taste. All I have left is my sense of smell. I know you are near me, I can tell. A deaf, dumb, and blind man knows. There is no way to hide from my nose. That is because you smell like a rose.
