Premium Member Tough Question
Everyone teased him, thought Sean was prissy
His mean roommates even called him 'Missy'
  Did Sean feel abused?
  Not at all! He mused:
What am I? ~ A sissy or a cissy?!...

The poetry section has a crazy short limit on characters so my piece had to be posted as a short story.

 Always seemed chipper
 There is no dispute
 That his roommates were cute

 She always seemed lost

Premium Member Paul Talked Tough
Paul talked tough, said he wanted to pulverize his enemy
But didn’t have one as far as any of us roommates could see
I’d mangle and maim them like a warrior wrecking ball
His only enemies are on video games, our friend Paul...

Premium Member Chickadee and Squirrel
chickadee and squirrel
roommates for a moment
one trills, the other chitter chatters
one has feathers, the other has fluffy fur

none of their colors are the same
they do not have simultaneous beliefs
cannot speak each other’s language
but today each speaks silence....

Premium Member The Question
Leong (one of my roommates) squirms up to me at breakfast, in the cafeteria.

“May I ask..,” she said, looking around like a secret agent getting ready to make a dead-drop, “what contraceptives do you use?”

I thought this an odd question from someone who just broke up with her long-time boyfriend but, hey, I’m an open book.

“Isolation and despair,” I replied, which got me an eye roll.

“You’re never serious!” She admonishes me....

Premium Member Tijuana Rain Puts Me Into a Mood
Tijuana rain puts me into a siesta like mood
I sit by the window allowing her to lull me to sleep
relaxing the way only Mexicans know how to relax
releasing troubles, trials and tribulations of this week

my roommates tiptoe around me, shushing each other
I appreciate their concern, feeling their love and tolerance.
she is pretty when she sleeps, one says, which surprises me.
I slip gently into dreamland, unaware now of the others....

Premium Member Glad to Allow Little Red to Join Us
Everybody helped build the communal treehouse
Badger, fox, bunny, chipmunk, squirrel, owl and mouse.
In the end we served molasses, honey and jam on bread.
Can I join you up there? Asked a hen named Little Red.

We knew she was picked on by her lazy roommates.
So we said “why not” and she brought along some crates.
We now had pecans, dumplings, tootsie rolls and fresh sirloin.
We were certainly glad now that we had allowed her to join....

Roommates
We come together like being tied by a rope.

Sometimes the rope gets cut lose by scissors,

And then we have to find a new rope to tie our friendship back together.

V. help me find the rope to tie us back together.

Don't let us both fall down on the ground by letting the cold wind get the best of us.

I will open up my heart to help you shine.

For that is all I ever wanted to see you do.

Not be in the coldness and not let you heart light up the sky....

Premium Member The Deal Breaker
She was a health food junkie.
That is okay. We could get along.
She could not bear the smell of meat.
I could not cook it there.
Could we still be roommates?
Of course.

I could not bring a hamburger or meat pizza in.
The rent was almost too good to be true.
Okay, I agreed.
We juice on Wednesdays, she told me.
This is why there are two toilets.

Wait! We both have to juice?
It’s my rule she told me.
What kind of juice?
Celery.
Any sugar in it?
No.
This was the deal breaker....
