I gave you everything
you gave me a goodbye
leaving me in tears
retracing the lie.
my life is falling apart
and I don’t even know how to start
picking up the pieces of my broken heart.
True love is incalculable
An ebb and flow of lifetime…
Never looking back
Or retracing its footfalls…
Only leaving behind
The moments of memory…
Of where it once stepped
Ever fulfilling...
Partner forever in time and tide
Aiding at all strands be it ripe
Retracing to good times of pride
Taking away the grey sides aside
Nurturing my soul every time
Everytime I think about him
Rhyming the unscrambled…smile
I came, I saw, I forgot if I was on the right track
Retracing my steps got distracted before I got back
What's going on, have no idea
But for sure now I need to pee
How often does this happen to you guys I ask
Retracing my steps …
picking up the pieces
of a misguided past
Cleaning up the memories
that so litter my
attention
Given one more chance
to change
the things I never intended
Given one last chance
to right the wrongs
—of my prodigal ways
(Dreamsleep: March, 2023)
Feet
weary
walking
in reverse
retracing
finding wisdom
by treading through
dried muddy footprints
blood stained memories
lessons relearned
forlorn tears cleanse
painful yet
needed now
moving
forward
feet
7/23/16
This is where the road forks,
our path long since ended.
I’m stuck in place,
caught up in the idea of moving forward.
Constantly muling over retracing my steps,
in hopes of joining you once more.
And I’m torn between wanting to wait for you,
and choosing a new path of travel.
Lost in Translation
Racing against the wind
Retracing all time
Back to where it begins
Fighting all sorrows
then taking flight again
Screaming out loud
But only sounds of the wind
No turning back
Just racing again
finding a tune
to make the heart mend
Time just stands still
then just starts again!
In a valley of thought
and memory peeks,
lies the vault that stores
what a minds eye seeks.
Retracing steps, of acts complete,
traversing ground on familiar streets.
That which brings smiles to face,
or tears that run, from a painful place.
Memories formed, both good and bad,
are the records kept, on the life we've had.
Trying to understand
why you marked up your body
—I stared at the ink
The memory of your open promise
still inside of me
—unfulfilled
Retracing that promised memory
with new symbols
—stained forever
You colored in the empty spaces
I was unable
—or unwilling to see
(Villanova Pennsylvania: August, 2016)
Come out with all in mind
Speak up what all in heart
Share and care, talk and walk
Then What???
No solution just arguments
No happiness just sadness
Moments all shattered
Life seems meaningless
No ways to retrace back
Mend all wrong happened
Speaking up…is such a pain?
Retracing back…not always an option
But moving on in spite…becomes the choice.
I have walked alone
Through fields of knowing green
Under skies of harmless blue
Four footsteps retracing my old
Those belonging to me
Those belonging to you
Am I the first to stand in these waters?
The first to be thrown
A washed upon this battered shore
Am I so barefoot and vunerable
To say 'I am the way I am'
'For nobody loved me like this before'...
"The majority of my
friends are dead,"
she said
while retracing the steps
of her life
No need to return
to the Heights'
depression~ recession
~regression
New faces in
old places with last
names that ring a bell
facial features similar
but can't really tell.
"I ain't left a damn thing
in the Heights, except
memories. . . that live
longer than friends."
Keeping
memories close
pushing
people away
I live in
the safety
of what’s held
at bay
Trading
the future
retreading
the past
Living
nostalgic
for what
cannot last
Each
invitation
each corner
unturned
Calls to me
distant
calls to me
spurned
But I keep
on running
retracing
old steps
As voices
still follow
in search
— of me yet
(Dreamsleep: July, 2025)
I'm back here again, I'm the one who loves more,
Retracing the lines of the one gone before.
I'll not say the words though they flood-fill my mouth,
Your eyes send mixed signs that I cannot work out.
How can I help myself, try not to fall?
For I'm scared our intentions aren't mirrored at all.
Committing the form of your face to my mind,
My fingers move questing for the love they'll not find.
Form:
Memories linger in the shadows
Retracing footsteps of my past
Trails I traversed now seem kinder
Rough edges by the years recast
Loved ones, friends, like crystal sparkle
In the light of elder days defined
The test of time deletes transgressions
Leaving just the best behind
How I love to sit among them
Sample each one as I may
Taste the nectar of a lifetime
Wrapped in my world of yesterday
I feel more incomplete
Now than before
Exand my heart is a cartography.
Of interrupted rhythms.
In the echoes of ancestral whispers.
I stand fragmented,unfinished.
Lands that once cradled our songs
Now distant unreachable,
My heart beating between
Bitter and sweet landscapes.
Dreaming of retracing old paths
But my imagination incomplete.
My hearth's rhythm interrupted.
Before each new glory
is a mountain to summit;
a sea to transverse –
a valley floor needing
lifting...thus expanding
our horizons, revealing
greater arcs of Light:
When at our best, we are
priests; warring against
dark, willing from the formless
spiritual clarity – when at our
worst, we are the back-and-forth
egg vs chicken – his crossing of
the road...our retracing footsteps,
forever unresolved
without a God.
im searching to find nothing
i continue to search for who i am
but i already know...
im searching for answers
but i have no questions
im searching for light
though my path isnt dark
i dont see anything
because theres nothing for me to see
im taking chances without risks
why am i retracing steps
ive never even taken
im traveling in an open circle
searching and searching for nothing at all.

WE STARTED YOUNGER
HOPING TO END IT WELL
IT WAS AS A GAME OF CHANCE
A LUCK IN EVERYONE’S FAVOUR
A BEHAVIOUR CAME ABOUT
CALLING EACH INDIVIDUAL
TO AVERT UNIONISM
UNITY IS THE FACT
THAT HOLD THE FUTURE
POTRAYING HONESTY
HOW DARE YOU BETRAY?
BEWARE FOR YOU MAY LIVE
AND MAY LIVE LONELY
DEEP IN SMELL WATER LONELY
ASKING WHICH WAY TO HOLY
PLUS THE WAY TO NEW NOLLY
IN RETRACING THE UNRULLY
DO ENCOURAGE YOURSELF
TO AVERT BEING ONESELF
COS ANON
PERHAPS MEET UP IN BULLY
Going back to Ghost Town
Searching high and low for
My haunted love,
Why can't I let you go?
Retracing my steps
Looking for the house of ghouls
Where we buried the souls of
our loved ones,
Thinking that maybe that would be enough
To keep them alive
I'm going out of my mind
Because I keep looking for a piece of you,
In these bodies sleeping next to me
Maybe we really were meant to be
Or maybe my mind just craves insanity
July, 2015.
M.K.
It rings in a
cavernous hammock.
No location,
only a prodding
to respond to the dark.
It is my parents calling
from a Bakelite planet;
I imagine retracing a long flex
to a whirling dial.
I hold the heavy handset to my ear:
'hello mum, hi dad' -
the phone is an electronic
hiss of dead air.
I sense they want to speak,
but they're too far away.
Words fizz in my skull.
Whatever they have to say
belongs to a yesterday
I can no longer relate to.
Retracing all my steps
Still looking for the last breadcrumb
Trying to find my way back
From who I have become
Look up at the daylight
Thinking it will leave a clue
Shine a light on all my mistakes,
On what I thought I knew
I think i wanna go home
But I cant remember why
All the rooms there are haunted
All my plans go awry
So I'll walk until my feet bleed,
"Leave your shoes at the door".
Red-clay colored head to bone
Always leave me looking for more
Peaceful harmony painted the scene
Regrets wondered, but a new era seen
Inside my dreams
Blending coloured themes
Into tempestuous reality
Desire to seize
Retracing conversations allusive to thee
Never more to weep
Visions fiery beams,
Mouths without screams
Where silence speaks
Symbols in peace
Covering within
Mending inside
Running thru the rye
Love was denied
As we shifted with the tide
Beneath the dark blue skies
Waiting to unwind,
I leave it all behind...
A smile fades
as the stars they realign,
An angel, dark angel
retracing a forgotten line.
She shuts her eyes
and the world dissapears,
A wounded eye opens,
to corrosive lovely fears.
Her mind begins to wonder
as the smoke rises in the air,
A single step too far
and they all begin to care.
A breath cut short
as the memory slips away,
Solitude in silence
is her lesson for today.
A smile now forgotten
As the stars they realign,
Angel, dark angel
Her hell is now mine.
