You Never Know
you never know
when the record player strikes
and vinyl floats and sums

pop stars melt down
to ordinary people
while female choir sings meekly...

Life In Music
In my dream I was in a record player,
On and track that kept spinning,
The music blasting from all directions,
Then it stops and everything went silent and still....

Thank You Don Quixote
There you are!

I thought you gone
the way of the record player.

Toilet lid tied to your hand,
a light saber held up high,
tilting at metal windmills
on a Kansas prairie....

Premium Member Peeking At Her Across the Way
She is wearing a cowboy hat today
I wonder if she sings Aussie or old west?
I have made up so many stories already
My apartment is directly across
I peek between blind slats.
Am I a stalker?
What is that? A record player!
Now I really love this woman!...

Bourbon High Cola
There was a young man from Pensacola
Who chug-a-lug a bourbon high cola
Gave it try
Eyes did cry
Head swirled like he was on a Victrola.

A Victrola is a record player that used to spin those old platters, 66, 33 RPM. If you care, you can boot up a picture of one on your chosen website....

Only Just Begun
"We've Only Just Begun",
A song that rewinds back,
to my childhood that I used
to listen to with mom and dad.

Sometimes on the radio
or the record player we had.
The melody would play and
I would smile real glad.

Working with people
To make a decent life,
Never acting defiant
Yet learning from my strife....

Grandfather's Record Player
Grandfather's record player

I remember grandfather use to have a record player,
Johnny Cash use to sing his lullaby every night.

My fascination of this amazing invention increased,
The record spins as a needle glides across it,
How is this music created?

My imagination rotates around this music,
Grandfather always hums this tune,
Johnny's voice slowly gets softer...
The music stops....

Breakdown Number One-Million
fluttering breath burns
throat like acid
hands shake with an
indescribable violence
trembling fingers peel
back the pages of
childish pocket bible --
a pained groan, a
strained sob escapes
dry lips; ears pique
at the crackle of
the record player,
eyes scan pages for
wisdom like an
addict, desperately
hungrily -
do not be anxious.
do not be anxious.
do not be anxious....

Seventy-Eights
I just bought a record player but it won't play my seventy-eights.
It only plays thirty-threes and forty fives and that's something I hate.
I have over a hundred seventy-eights with some terrific singers.
But to be able to play them, I have to spin the wheel really fast with my finger.
My hand is getting tired and this sure does aggravate.
I want a record player that will play my damn seventy-eights....

Those Darn Ebayers!!
Some sellers on Ebay are very good but some are very bad.
Some of them charge a fortune and it really makes me mad.
One Ebayer was asking two hundred and fifty dollars for a record player that
didn't even work.
It frustrates me so much that I feel like going berserk.
They charge as much for their merchandise as a jewelry store charges for a
precious gem.
Unless they lower their prices, I'm sure as hell not going to buy from them....

A Cold Christmas Eve
A cold Christmas Eve
the sun rises and pushes darkness away,
and the air is crisp and cold,
that hits your bones and freezes you in place.
...and I put on the coffee pot,
the aroma of coffee beans roasting fills the house.

The blues on the record player,
blaring in a soft groove that shakes the soul
for Heaven's sake show the love you confess,
and this cold Christmas Eve will feel much warmer.

The coffee is finished.
The gibberish is over.
I am done....

Turntable Blues
I haven’t played a record
In more years than I can say,
Yet still I mourn the record player
That we ditched today.

It sat there in the living room
Accumulating dust,
But since we’re spiffing up the place
I really must adjust.

I’ll box my records in a crate
And hide them out of sight.
I have no way to play them,
But to toss them’s just not right.

Though music’s always in my life,
I’ve said goodbye to vinyl
And now that my turntable’s gone,
That farewell feels more final....
