The reddened riot of wine-rich sun
Spills over skies of afternoon,
And purpling-reds of the day now done
Splash!--then dissolve, so soon.

And sunset turns a violet grey
Mixing with twilight’s magic blur,
Revealing the fairy-shapes at play,
Listen!--to wings’ soft whir....

My Mind Is Playing Again

I long to ride the sky
On a high ridge drive
Where mountains’ purpling winds

Make haze.

Where smoky blue covers valley curves,
And the cry of natives’ spirits still
Are heard in pow wow from hill to hill

Divining laws.

Where wedding beads and haunting pipes
Dance in ancient summer nights,
I want to remember that never seeing,

But carry deep in my own being....
