Big Green Apple
Utterly honest and
open big green apple addicted to
substances used for
smoothing, polishing, and
cleaning.
Santa Claus was in a tissy,
At this time of year, he's always busy.
Frantically polishing his big sleigh,
He forgot it was Christmas Day.
We're all born with gifts
Life's about unveiling those gifts
Living involves polishing those gifts
Love's about uplifting others with our gifts

flattery and compliments oozed out of her
she would apple polish a weirdo, a cur.
a suave sycophant of the nth degree
her nose as brown and smelly as an eye can see
Geo is an apple-polishing sycophant.
He’ll kill you too, says hard-of-hearing Grandpa Grant.
Confusing sycophant with psychopath, I guess.
The next family reunion is a horrible mess.
Teachers are supposed to be polishing gems.
But instead, are cracking the gloaming of innocents.
Judging children by their race, when all they want to do is play.
Jim Crow is cawing for souls once again.
daddy’s stepping out
mother Russia reach around
polishing his throne

Form:
Caressing waters
Clearly polishing the rocks
Mimicking our lives
You performed
superiorly well
Magnificent, they yelled for you
You Dreamed
Certain utopia
However, only you will gain
You militant
Got crowned
Warm, your sitting place stays
You made
this society
servant, to polishing your shoes
Dentist
While polishing some canine teeth
and cleaning out some gums.
the werewolf bit down viciously
on the dentist’s thumbs.
Although he bit him brutally,
nothing will transpire.
The patient was a werewolf,
but the dentist’s a vampire!
Suffering sautées souls
Peeling away the impurities
Revealing the obscurities
Redeeming even polishing
Character like a crystal
Creating out of clay
A great new display
Despite mud of former day
Wiped and made
Shiny and new
A pearl birthed by world
Purple unicorns prance into my mind
Polishing up ideas
Worthy of a princess
Followed by kittens wearing toothbrush hats
With smeary feline smiles
Diabolical laughs
Trixie takes over immediately
Pirate queen gives them the boot
She is ready to play!
Wanting
twin lips of a viola.
Sun
polishing the dagger.
Death was only feet away.
A seething ocean
of mirrors
unmakes the bed.
You sleep in shoes
like a *****.
Naked as a moon
the hand opens the gate.
Sheer feline
night moves in
purring.

Rumi said,
“Polish the mirror of your soul
that it might better reflect God.”
An antique hand mirror,
the leaded glass is warped,
its wooden and carved frame cracked
yet keep polishing it.
One day hope to see
what has always
been in front of your face.
The Goliath reaches deep underground,
grabbing a hand full of coal
Crushing the black rock in his huge maw,
polishing it to gleaming diamonds.
Flinging the treasure into the ebon sky.
So at night we can look heavenward,
and enjoy a million stars
in a midnight sky.
Take off your mortgage and remove your career,
stop polishing your act.
Stop taking stock,
stop the clocks
and open the locks.
Let me in
let me in,
let me in
let me in.
And let me begin where you end,
let the footsteps fall,
a path to amend,
and you,
friend.
his OCD merry-go-round
is noticeable all around
repeated behaviors over and over
tearing up dandelions and clover
polishing table twenty-three times
recounting once again his tin of dimes
repeated efforts are automatic
familiar patterns, nothing unexpected or sporadic
when
rain tumbled
the skies they blackened
lightening wrapped around branches
and pulled stripping some autumn red leaves
wind shears push crystal rain against my house
polishing and cleansing away impure dust and debris

a lay (lei)
Took a walk in poetry’s field,
many poems caught my appeal.
Planting of new notions I saw
and older verse puts me in awe.
Metaphor, hyperbole, rhyme
alliteration, form take time.
Patina on each unique write
shows poem's polish and sheds light.

Dragging our lobster claw
haphazardly across rows of ivory song
scratching both beautiful and hideous notes
throughout our lives-somehow, we stayed afloat-
Racing the foaming mouth of death.
Polishing up melodies of opaque regrets...
High tide, swallowing a lobster claw
and a grand piano bench.

Corruption reigns while silence is served.
We hone their knives with indifference,
keep polishing their plates with our fatigue.
The reckless and the cruel—
they feast well, for the tables are laid.
A democracy isn’t taken;
it’s surrendered, a napkin at a time.
We end the banquet by taking the plates away.
A tombstone cleaning workshop—
don’t bother the ghost…it’s sold out!
You can no longer finger this rest stop.
How about this Halloween turnout!
Will it be a Poppins extravaganza,
sweeping and polishing to Step in Time?
It’s a grave matter to the living, who plans a
cleaning party— the chance of a lifetime.
