Through the Moon and the Pines

night
cleanse the air
with
the scent of cherry wood
then
somehow
through
the moon and the pines
that
let us hear
those wooden chimes

Coeur d'Alene, Heart of the Awl,
     gem of the north,
you tamed my hatred of this desert state
and gave me sunlight sparkling on
blue lakes under scented pines.

Premium Member The Pinnacle Pines

Bold escarpments scrape the clear sky,
rake and hoe the clouds day bright,
plant your pointed pinnacle high,
show man the way into the Light.
Reflect upon the fractured form
for all that is human is reborn.

The Phi of Pines

From trunk to limb to branch to twig
The houses we build
The beatle who kills
My favorite shelf
Stacked each one smaller
Vanishing towards heaven
The needles on the ground
Scented perfection
Swaying in the breeze

The green pines stand tall
                  Much higher above them all
                     Reaching for the sky
Waiting for the snow to fly
                   We watch for winter below

Forest of Pines 02-08-25

To the clouds-
a tousled crown of green,
a bump in the fabric of land.

To the deer-
a hall of silent pillars,
woven shadows,
mighty temples.

To the rain-
a fleeting flash of green and brown

then hush-
splattering on fallen needles.

Straight Up Into Green Pines

the majestic northern elk pierced by the archer's swift arrow through the forest divine deep into the heart it shatters the elk leaped over the river's flow oh what matters straight up into green pines yes he shall go to thine oh Lord he shall not die

Premium Member In My Grasp

bottom of a bowel
of jagged rocks
slender bristling pines
ring a ragged sky
through which slips
slivers of warmth
hugging me like a child
on this crisp morning

life on the line
wiggling wriggling
jumping
splashing, flashing
slippery, cold, and firm
in my grasp

Shadow Pines

Beyond the house…

Pass the back yard…

Through the trees, and into
the forest…

That is where you will see
the pines…

Shadows befall the branches
 that are covered with needles,
as the scent of pine floats and
 floods the heavy air…

The Pines

The Pines

                          Tall and Slender
                          Reaching to the sky
                          Needles dropping
                          Air frigid and dry
                          Branches waving
                          While never saying goodbye

Premium Member Interlude For In the Pines

She came from the village
One day's ride from here.
Though I'd only met her but the once,
She filled a corner of my memories
All down these many years.

She had that Fugitive look about her-
Eyes like a wary fox.
She would not add nor take from what she'd told me;
Her heart was full of locks.

Pines At the Village

Sounds that whisper continuously.
Notes that dance across the sky,
throughout the day of a life
Ah, makes me as a child again.
No thoughts of tomorrow, arms
reaching out feet happily dancing
through the wonderous sounds, hints
of energy found..
So endearing, how it washes my mind
in serenity.

She Pines For Him

She pines for him
As he speaks of his nights
Screaming phone calls
From unnamed voices
She sighs at me
While I laugh at her desire
He tags me with a number
As I notice the lack of worth
I hear the rumors, the gossip
Because no one thinks I’m listening
I know about her
I know about him
And I probably know about you

Premium Member Long Needle Pines

Long needle pines
chant in a gentle breeze.
I sit motionless. Bathed
in the canorous drone,
feel the tremors
of life’s longing,
the ring of ageless wisdom,
sense the strength
of stoic serenity.
Would that I could take root
and join them
                   …….in their moment.

Wisdom from Trees Poetry Contest

Premium Member My Pines Of Birth

Pines, my native line and birth
From you I came without a dearth
Pines, I shall call you with mirth
To you I return with my vision to unearth
Returning with unearthly wealth
Simple works I offer, not burn
Honor is yours, over my urn.
Toils are not made to harden one's feelings
Or break a heart of stone that churn
Rather to soften outer peelings.
