Foals
there are foals in the paddock
long teetering legs wobble and scamper
I want to keep seeing them
even when they are no longer here
we will make golden shadows together
where the sun runs the fence...

Foals
There are foals in the paddock.
Long teetering legs, wobble, and bounce,
They explore my fence-leaning figure,
dash way.
Foals and their gamboling steps
are in my life again.
Later,
we will race the sun along this white fence
making golden shadows together....

Haiku Hodge Podge Trio, Trees and Leaves
Gum trees line the road
To long outback red paddock
To my father's house
Olive green Gum leaves
On wind-swept red-sandstone hills
Flick like Brumby tails
Eucalypt tree leaves
Are food for our koala's
Round our Billabong

The Foals
There are foals in the paddock.
Long teetering legs wobble and bounce,
I love to watch the foals into my life again,
let them nourish my old eyes
with their baby steps.
Soon they will be capering unattended.
We will make golden shadows together
where the sun runs the fence....

Professor Paddock of Virology
Professor Paddock of virology was a stocky man
He observed a little beetle on the skirt of Messy Anne
He took out his double DNA space probe
Focused it on Anne's hepatic lobe
And leapt out of the window without any thoughtful game plan...

The Brook In the Paddock
Icy black silk, but no, not quite
More on like a sinuous pupil
Deep and cool
Betraying only its surface
Slipping between banks of ivory cream
Frothy, bubbling pearls hang from its lips
And tiny tawny soldiers from ivory stand
In sweeping magnificence
So calm and stony
One flowing sheet of inky ebony
Strikingly beautiful and proud...

Windy Farm - a Childish Rhyme
The dog gave a bark
When the cat did a fart
As it woke him from his sleep
Then the cat screeched meaoow
To the sight of the cow
Who'd just done a big brown heap
The smell was atrocious
Was he trying to dose us
The horse in his paddock thought
Then the sheep gave a baaaa
As the whiff travelled far
A lesson in poo you've been taught...

Equine Lasagne
Has this lasagne
Ever worn a saddle
Or been ridden in the Melbourne cup?
I'm Curious as I bought it
In the supermarket cheap
When the price of beef was up
Though as I sit here looking
In the paddock next door
Where a stallion is quietly grazing
It occurs to me the lasagne you could make from that
Would be both quantity and taste, amazing
GB...

Bone Saw Trifecta
He chose to play the cheater’s hand.
The stakes were worth his manhood.
He perished in his paddock boots
Like Wild Bill did in Deadwood.
The edge of the assassin’s blade
Was cold and unforgiving.
The dead get stripped of dignity.
The spoils go to the living.
The hitman shut the stable door,
A bone saw in his hand,
The blood drops on his wingtips?
Just the jockey’s reprimand.
...

Father
You promised you would pick us up and waited.
Feeling we don't matter was stated.
Drinking was more important the pain is my reminder.
The priest handed you a glass.
Was supposed to be at mass.
It wasn't supposed to turn out this way.
You had gone to the paddock.
Mother had cooked potluck.
And sleeping you mumbled curses.
Those memories creep up on me.
I carry them in my briefcase.
Mr Clean doesn't work there....

Cow Decorators
The cows hung polka dot curtains on the fences
It was the latest fad
And when the cows in the neighboring paddock
came to look they told them, "Only cool cows had curtains !!"
So they went to find striped curtains for their fences.
Non-conformist cows steered clear of fabric curtains at all costs
but had the very latest in electric fences.
Barbed wire was archaic and - barbarian.
The coolest of all cows
had no fences.

Country Road, Travel Me To My Humble Abode
The wheel twirls on the carpet of dusty gold;
Caressing a story yet untold...
The paddock filled with dancing green Mermaids;
The gaze in to eternal beauty fades...
Peaks Joyous of the breeze;
A kiss or two? What a tease...
The blazing golden ball high above;
Mellows down for a striking white dove...
Singing Nymphs luring with devotion;
beguilingly the hands set to motion...
Country road travel me to my humble adobe
Set me free of this grave load......

Farming
Some things are a given
When you work upon the land
You can always guarantee
Things will not go to plan
The minute you're in charge
And everyone has gone away
A problem will crop up
Promptly ruining your day
You go out to see the cattle
Checking their welfare
And find the electric fence is off
And the paddock is now bare
Have they gone down in the bush?
No the problem is worse, of course
They're over at the neighbours -
Up a gully in the bloody gorse...
