Poem 1

Jamie stood in silence staring listlessly at the calm bayou below. The water was almost glowing green; as it carried leaf after leaf miles from their trees of origin.

Quelled By Nature

listlessly, leaves droop
withering in summer's heat ~
nimbus clouds gather

thunder's mighty roar
commands slate gray skies, "Open" ~
sparrows seek shelter

petals spring to life
quelled by nature's gift of rain ~
sunlight smiles with warmth

Dire Destruction

When worlds collide
Life will listlessly slip away from us
When the universe unlatches
Our whole world will spill out
When Earth explodes
The human race will smash into oblivion
When weapons become us
Peace will be a thing of folk lore
When we do die
Our love will live on forever

Lackadaisical

Lying upon the couch
Listlessly unmoving
Lethargic and sluggish
Like a sun-drugged lizard
Lacking the will to budge
Light hurts his heavy eyes
Liqueur played tricks on him.

Poetry

In my house there are many windows
I await the shimmering light
to warm my poems
but I am stuck for inspiration
I await for nature
just some simple lea
with truncated river
dithering away listlessly
under azure sky
or a poem about a
sun baked hippopotamus
under surveillance
of a tourist truck

Lockdown- 36th Day

History of world drinking now venom of curse
Dying listlessly believer, disbeliever, sinner, pious

Without money the world life is meaningless
Hungriness knows no warning fate of death

Foodless home is bitter more than final doom
Give food, not cheap lockdown in belly goon

Surviving Solitude

Loneliness lurks like a live leprechaun,

Leering at her loss of love and laughter;

She leads a luckless lamentable life,

Lacking light, leaning towards lunacy,

Laden with longing and lacklustre lies;

Listlessly lingering in lethargy,

Labyrinthine lady looks lachrymose.

Hospice

Giving up,
we lose ourselves
in soft denials,
tally up bone-tinted
Kodaks – recall
brief glints of eye,
succinct resemblances
of generations.

Listlessly,
we wait
death’s domination—
cool brushes
of wind,
flutterings
of waxen wings
& last breaths,
dusky, distant
as the webbed
membranes
of memories.

Sunflowers In a Covid Year

The sunflowers are heavy this year.
Gold has had iron added to it.
The fat round capitula
are seeded with a leaden density,
and bend to an inward gravity.
The great yellow florets are glorious
as ever,
but the heliotropes
seem now to turn listlessly
and the sun is masked
as if veiled by some malady,
or a rumor of one.

Beneath Cool Green Shade

Beneath cool green shade
we roil in inner undulations--
a fever of hands, a pox
of sunlight glinting
high canopies of summer trees.

Creeks crackle, clear
water molding speckled
pebbles as laughter
churns cooling shade
slipping past memories,
holding moments briefly --
white seeds of cottonwood
spinning in sun, settling
listlessly on a skin
of stream.

Lazy Daisy Days

LAZY DAISY DAYS Languishing lying listlessly in the warm lamp of the sun Landscapes lingering language of lavishness again won Daisy dances decorate abundant demur flowerbeds Demonstrative distractive drapes-petite white heads Daylight daydreams decorate in delightful colored array Dispersing discord drama as I lazily capture a daisy day

Blaming a Missing Person

Two small pinwheels once rosy and gay
Have faded in the sun, they are now dingy and gray
How brilliantly colorful they once were, probably
Popping with enthusiasm and joy to some degree

Now they are worn, faded, dull, and listlessly dead.
I have to blame their owner Mr. McFred
He should have brought them in before the snow
Wait; he is missing? How did I not know…

Bluejays

Before the war
bluejays were just bluejays,
then the missiles arrived.
CNN displayed the mounting death count
until it too was obliterated.
Scorched bodies tumbled listlessly,
down deserted streets.
Some took to the sewage systems,
down there in the narrow dark,
rats were frolicking,
paws were pitter-pattering,
and they whirred and cackled
just like Bluejays.

Suffocated By Thick Breeze

Grasping the forest so tightly
A thick mantle of layered breeze
Whips into rows and rows along aisles -
Coating the trees, suffocated
From a blanket of dry frothing .
The clouds pass by, unconcerned
As jays and ladybugs are silenced
While creatures of the meadow grow restless
And blossoms sigh listlessly -
Waiting for dewy October's rainfall.

July

There is no milk to be had
from this humid churn.
The air is obese.
A limping obstinacy
inflates canyons of heat.
The sun throws a leash of blood
around our necks.
Throats channel the smoke
of saxophones.
Over the dry prairies
a fiery mule pulls the sun.
We will burn lanterns,
listlessly watch catfish
char on bleached docks.
We speak to each other
as if we were just a sigh
at the end of one more
solar flare.

A Jocyean Image

Deada in ashes fallin to lamar cold
Unsing it vanity in time concealed
Like leaveslight winglesssta
Listlessly lain where unburried we wither away

Lull inkfro fettered eternity
I call dull life what it is
Greycoated only dream
Hanging athwart the ending stream until sunset
Totell moreonce the story old

End under streetlamps invisible names in shame
Narrating oursins
Diligently like blackbirds cawing
Sweet nothingican understandin grant.

Impromptu

soon to
be twenty
six
too soon
you were
just twenty
four
and twenty
two

count backwards
towards a time
time of sleep
listlessly
listening
my tone
of voice
sings to
you

waking
warmly
towards
words of
the familiar
family speaking
words of wonder
understanding what
their hopes and wishes were

wake now
not the waking
of then while
solid in memory
led presently to
your hopes
and wishes
your future
in fluidity

Ordinary Orange

Ordinary Orange

Faded, worn down, frayed,
by the tedium of orange
it hung there, listlessly,
wondering. ‘How does
brilliance become ordinary,
beauty become commonplace,
monotony replace purpose.”

Perhaps the best is not enough
to merit a “selfie” moment,
the fading orange passé,
drab against the lighted skyline,
a well known stranger passing by.

He Sobs

he sobs
hidden in the back lot beyond the woodpile
many days he has listlessly searched for her
wedding wing
thrown as she declared her
independence
or rather
that she never loved him

never?

dark soil and trampled gardens marked by deer
he is alone here
but nothing shines to guide him
nothing shines in the dirt
if only he could find it he'd have something
real
to show her

now her eyes are cast down
she drives away
fast
nothing shining.
