Autumn
The crushed glass candle flickers to life,
As Autumn dusk glows through my window.
Geese arrows fly breathless through many
Bare limbed mazes as the flame slowly dies.
Now all that's left for me to know is
The sidewalk is hushed and the loon's call cries....

Warm Days of Spring
Warm
are days
every Spring
as flowers bloom
and honeybees buzz
in search of sweet nectar.
The season of birth and growth
Songbirds sing while feathering nests
and leaves reappear on bare-limbed trees.
It's the time when nature paints the world green
...

Golden
golden ball of light
hidden by a rush of fog....
male mockingbirds fight
one brief glimpse reveals
bare limbed fig bush, pear blossoms....
streaked kitchen window
weeping willow tree
tiny green leaves, thick weeds grow....
a gap in the fence ...

A Quiet Walk On the Ocean Floor
today I walked across the ocean floor
the flora and the fauna were flat;
multi-limbed fish and flat eyeless worms,
nudged me, like a dreaming lover in the night
heaven’s light?...no..it was just too far down!
bathyscape deep: Witgenstein deep…really,
really, excrucitingly deep....

Isabel
A vision of pulchritude
My sweet little Isabel
Coquettish in the extreme
A beautiful southern belle
Lithe limbed and gracile
She is hopelessly vivacious
With her sylph like elegance
She tends to the outrageous
But for all her dalliances
And her overt vivacity
Her revelling in the attention
She is still in love with me...

I do not know?
The Leaning Tree
The leaning tree has battled many a storm
The scars are plain to see
It's crooked trunk and twisted branches
are a living testimony
As I pass in dreary weather
I always take a second
To rest behind his broad limbed back
hidden from the wind
When at last the summer comes
I lean upon that curving bark
There to share my favourite book
Beneath his leafy arc...

Champagne Flowing
Smooth-limbed creatures list wayward in passion's grip
Romantic interludes, the menu fare of their cruise ship
The Captain, tuxedo-attired, dazzles the admiring throng
Green-eyed maidens swoon his way the evening long
Stars wink to one another on high, knowing nods
Raising waves higher, the pale moon their demi-god
~ Champagne flowing throughout Night's grand facade...

Abra-Cadaver
Drip, drip
Drip, drip
Melts the soiled soul onto
A dusty field of abandon
Fenced in by human limbed pickets
Yanked from the graves
Of broken hearts
Skeletal branched silhouettes
Clatter above the bloodless
Hole in the ground
The Ravens hide in the shadows
The shadows hide behind stone crops
The crops provide bountiful skulls
What is the illusion without a live audience?
Who, or what heard the solemn incantation of
Abra-Cadaver?...

Lady By the Sea
I saw her standing there
facing the sea. Her diaphanous
gown draped with gentle folds in
harmony with the breeze.
She seemed poised for flight
like a long limbed ballerina.
I saw the surf break into an
avalanche of foam and felt
fear that made me huddle and quake.
Tumbling waves licking at caves
mad and destructive.
Her gown became a black shroud
and her sins died in my bosom.
I could not look at her face
lest I see myself and
become astonished....

In The Moment
There is nothing to distinguish
this day from any other
down on the beach
children splash into the shallows
dogs sprinting after soggy balls
flung from loose limbed strollers
while swallows carve the air
with cursive dashes
how easy to forget
this scene will keep repeating
in all the seaside towns
long after you’ve departed
your breath and essence
mingling with the salt and spray
for today observe your pleasure
then exhale in silent thanks....
