The days of Corona

In Corona season
What is it like to kill a day,
Short or long
It is like flipping a page after page,
Fun or ho-hum

I was going to write a nice little poem
all about love, beauty, etcetera - an anthem
but cheery words simply would not come
instead, a sad song I just started to hum
now, I am feeling rather down and glum
– ho hum!

Here's yours and thanks for mine
Candy bars are so benign
For vibrating sex toys do we pine
~ And for an extra treat, a bottle of wine

Hearts pounding, alarms sounding
Threats abounding
Tempers flaring, horns blaring
Demons swearing
Pulses thrumming, fingers drumming
Epiphany coming
Pressure soaring, oceans roaring
Combatants warring

Little black bird
Way up high
I see you there
Where you going this fine day
Take me with you, don't make me stay
Release my mind "away" from this ho-hum day
I want out of my solitude, to fly off with you
Take me with you forever and a day!

Santa's lost his Ho Ho Ho!
Where did Santa's Ho Ho Ho go
Did it fall from his sleigh?
When Rudolph yelled out Hey!,
Stop Santa was Blitzens call,
Saying,
Did you not see them fall,
When you hit that chimney wall?
Santa, could you please drive slow,
So we may find your Ho Ho Ho!

Once me and my chimp friend bald Jim
flew through a forest limb to limb
his opposable thumb
got caught in my ho-hum
thank God old Jim’s not real prim.
My name is Miss Fine and Dandy
Bald Jim often brings me candy
a banana toffee
always does it for me
and him, since he's oh so randy.

I was sitting on the dock of the bay listening to a song
when Otis Redding happened to come walking along.
He said, "You watching the ships roll in?"
I said, "Yeah, and then watching ‘em roll away again."
He said, "That stuff's really dug by some,
but I think it’s all pretty much ho-hum."

Plain droplets plink downward risk-free.
Rain, that bristles on panes, weighty.
Rip-roaring, soaring, not boring,
as wind assists an outpouring.
Angled and claustrophobic dance.
Can’t see the light; cars take a stance.
Sky, a blue-gray, wiper flip-flops.
Shy, the soft pelts of ho-hum drops.

Oh, True Inspiration! Where have you been
Can't you see the abominable shape my poetry's in
Bring back the celebration, the excitation
the fascination, the transformations
Huh? Whuss that? You're on permanent vacation?
Oh, well. Ho-hum. Back to 'social justice agitation'

If only I can turn back
The time,
I will gladly do. And
rewrite the love letter
I gave to you, beside the beach
where we had our last
and final kisses.
If only I knew soon enough that
everything would quickly turn
a ho-hum sea,
My worries; I would have
set ablaze
And hold you, so tight,
in thine arms.

The Grinch and his gal stole a tree.
She played with his snowy goaty.
They took all the food
and presents. Not good!
Their spree gave them holiday glee.
The bars at the North Pole ho hum.
It’s warmed by the coal and the bum.
He’s green with his thought
And blue he’s been caught.
The Gal with his bail has not come.

Give me something smart to say
Or maybe something dumb
What should I do, Should I stay?
Or should I go, ho hum?
Nothing seems to come together
Nothing seems to flow
Should I brush my teeth right now?
Or watch the Oprah show?
Why are some days really nutty
And others just plain boring
Today I'm going to flip a coin
If it's tail, I'm going bowling.

Think of zero, nothing
Your mind will go absolutely blank as a page
Do not sing!
Practice nada,
Don’t be philosopher or sage
Magna
Ho-hum
No time to rage
Mum
Think of zero, nothing
Don’t be philosopher or sage
Mum.

I wished upon a shooting star
Tired of life’s ho hum meanderings
A wish for something more
A cure for cancer
Food for the hungry
Homes for the homeless
Clothes for the unclothed and
Dreams to come true
For the dreamers
Whether the star has
These powers never
Occurred to my
Unadulterated thoughts
But a wish is just that
A positive flow of energy
And thoughts and prayers

can I write a poem
or only rhyme
I’m not sure where I’m goin’
it’s one word at a time
like data through a modem
still, I hope for the sublime
a psychospiritual novum
to delight a reader's mind,
show how jaded skepticism is ho-hum,
and like sex, ecstatically manifest the divine

A poem read, right time nor place,
Be like ho-hum, phantom sans face,
In a conjugal bed
As if odd scriptures read,
A trump of ‘two’ tricking an ace!
But a lay piece at place and time
Is deemed proper, in place and prime.
As in a bridal quart,
To undress is rare art—
At public place a social crime.

My ataraxia, lost
Now exists a thought
troubling my mind,
a thought of a grand poem
imploring to be penned,
a thought playing
the ho-hum game
of hide and seek,
a thought
appearing and disappearing
like an amateur magician’s act,
a thought like the others
I end up writing about,
A thought
I must tirelessly
Scour my mind for,
For that is
a poet’s horror story
And I will finally
slay my ghost
When I read that poem
written as it wanted to be -

Changes,
know what they’re all about;
Flip each of the pages
on double breasted doubt;
Let it go in stages.
Back road
may be a bit longer
but you lighten the load;
The trip makes you stronger
left running in beast mode.
Do it!
You have your future locked;
Sick rambunctious misfit
you always leave them shocked,
I’ve got five on your wit
Changes
can be for the better;
Those ho hum exchanges
gone for something greater;
Blitz fire rearranges.

Other
O
Christmas tree ho hum.
Its scented needles unfurled.
The trunk plopped down and watered.
She sits, oh so still, like a good girl should.
Days and days later, she’s showered in tinsel,
dressed in lovely ornaments, gifted choice candy canes.
The Winter sun is placed on her head, warming her heart.
“Splendid,” she sighs, and then decadent wrapped boxes, drop
at her feet
on Xmas
Eve, a
twinkle in
the gifter’s eye.

Personification
Listen to your heartbeat slow,
Listen to its ho-hum beats,
Slowly as the pain retreats,
Listen to its thrumming low;
Wake up to the pain within,
Wake up to its panic call,
Gently as the ache does crawl,
Wake up to darkness therein;
Look out for your frail heart's cry
Look out for the symptoms, yes,
Well before the pain rises,
Look out for med help that's nigh.
