BITTER BLOOD
I'M TORN
INTO FLIMSY FRAGMENTS
PULLING ME APART
YELLOWING
WITH MISUSE
THIS STATE OF ENTROPY
BLACKENED.
Entropy evaporating
into itself
Birthing an ending
—singular truth
(Villanova Pennsylvania: Tribute To Stephen Hawking October, 2020)
Physicists speak of entropy
Beatles sing, ‘Let it be’
From war zones, refugees flee
Folks just want to live free
Order gives way
To disorder
I look at my reflection
In the mirror
And believe every word.
W.A CHOLT. Copyright Fergal O Reilly. 2018.
Listen to poem:
Life bedraggled.
Clown mask in tatters.
What matters, shattered
into a myriad
of jumbled pieces.
Nowhere to hide
when you can't
make a laugh
anymore.
Entropy is funny that way.
A random walk, yet
entropy dictates my course
forever downward.
Others may curse
this inexorable decline
yet I embrace it.
For in my passing
the seeds of new life are sown
the cycle goes on.
Dimensions of time reside in chaos,
In entropy.
The gravity of existence cocoons us,
a welcome obscurity.
We revel in our belief, dare we break the veil?
This...
this universal disclosure...
Form:
Words are eating commas,
Phrases are eating the page
Pages are eating the parallel space
The end of Quantum Mechanic
Is reaching its absurdity
its maximum entropy
It is cold
I have to burn my journal.
Form:
Insanity drawing in on us,
measured by our lives in hell.
millions in an omnibus,
order, sinking, entropy.
renditions of a crumbling soul,
tumbling in to the abyss.
always taking draining tolls,
lingering for but a moment.
Sometimes …
there’s one poem
that opens your mind
And clears out
the cobwebs
that gather in kind
The words
defy entropy
speaking as one
And pushing you
forward
— their mission is done
(Dreamsleep: March, 2024)
Listen to poem:
Starlight is defamed
comets swallow their own tails
time folds entropy
shadows not now reflected
all applause rendered to void
In the vanishing
I stand stripped of flesh and bone
naked to atone
as a soul in reckoning
for what I've become, not done
I can feel the tearing,
coming apart again,
stitches dropped
carelessly.
Weakened by wear,
too thin, now,
to hold
together.
Entropy at work,
forces of nature
slowly eroding
integrity.
Too thin to hold
together, we grow
apart again
carefully.
Consumption, please eat me
Before I explode
And vanish completely
I'd rather erode
Kill the craving
That's killing me so
Dying to sort
The disorder inside
Bag of entropy
Sack of skin
Outside empty
Chaos in
Particles scatter
Collapsing to fast
Mind over matter
Critical mass
Is randomness designed,
can the dice roll more defined
Is entropy a map,
less complex as time adapts
Can ignorance be renamed,
as a home for knowledge gained
Can the circle then be squared
—arcs and angles still to share
(Bryn Mawr Pennsylvania: May, 2019)

The past expands as the future collapses
instant entropy at C
Hello mass
expand me
I am an artist in a sea of time
think I don't laugh at your theories?
Science screams, "No such thing
no such thing as perpetual motion
Oh, expansion of the universe
It's nothing
Form:
E xquisite sorrow
taste it
I did
bring forth the holy grail of grief
bend and bow the muse to me
to sing of lost loves entropy
let's drink a toast together
from this bitter sacred cup
Exquisite sorrow
the finest vintage
Please don't spill
Don't make me lick it up.
taste it

Going from the past to the future
Is a theoretical abstract
There’s no timeless reason we can’t go
From the future to the past
Our perception trapped in entropy
Keeps the order one direction
Our search for meaning stacked upon
—a theory not to last
(Villanova Pennsylvania: June, 2019)
In truth hypocrisy lies
Fermented in the divine
A psychotropic shed of moral skin
Manifest entropy our destiny sink or swim
Unto others we do lest it be done to us
Lost in translation is decency and trust
As vanity informs our social dialect
When studying a mirror is there anything but regret
Listen to poem:
Touch is fleeting, never a foot hold.
Warmth succumbs to growing old's cold.
Value lies unfounded, hidden in treasure's chest.
For life's obsession is driven by mementos' quest.
Gold that glitters, when buried, fades decays to dust.
All structure and order is dismembered by entropy's thrust.
Time reveals fragility
The status quo is a jester
A one-hit wonder
Soon lies under
The corpses of the investor
Entropy speeds up
Clinging to the last quarter
Tides recede
As they need
To find a new supporter
Nothing is permanent
No praises, no kisses, no bitter words
Destined long ago, as yesterday…
Gone for good…
Done with time.
Another night will remind this
To mourn soulfully….
A mad life under a full moon.
For a poet, where there is…
a poetess too. Perhaps.
Do you remember?
Entropy.
Neglect is to political Entropy
as
impatient Tolerance is to Sympathy
as
pro-active Engagement is to Empathy
as
Solidarity is to EarthTribe's vast
compassion
Neglect of whole-sum EarthTribe health
is to global entropy
as
EarthDay resilient solidarity
is to polyculturally resonant
compassion.
With their carnival of colors
they glitter the grass and the gutters,
till brooms, offended by their loitering littering
brush them aside,
till stray winds and wily stepping strides
scatter them back where they belong
as the foreground to scenes of order, and creativity
confounded my tug of entropy
Let us live like
it is the last day
of creation!
...as we know
that it will be!
One day closer to nothing
as all are expiring...
in entropy and ecstasy
the coming
of extinction!
ENTROPHY
Entropy says that matter can't last
As energy holds it together.
But as we go down, fighting the last
I hope that just one little feather
Sticks to the side of whatever's left over
A bale of cotton, a field of clover.
It's not that it matters it's me that it flatters
So long as some semblance weathers.
