Once long ago on a school visit to the zoo
My little one had just begun elementary school
High up on a tree branch sat a lonely owl
With his huge eyes shut, he could pass for any old fowl
Suddenly, he opened them and questioned, “Who? Who?”
Wind..dances in the trees
Egos,doing as they please
Wind..brings clouds of rain
Tomorrows,oftimes filled with pain
Wind..sounds deep in the night
Sorry,may not make it right
Wind..elements moving unseen
Attraction,love's go-between
Circles and sticks.
Round holes that
don't fit.
Elementary
my dear.
Magic carpet cruise
down
crooked streets
of vacant use.
Nonsense.
Silly.
He was always
square.
Whoever surmised he
was cut from
the round?
I am grateful for understanding parental math…
although I’m sure my elementary teachers
would think my math misguided…
How the love for each of our children,
grandchildren
and great grandchildren
can be whole…
no matter how many times it is divided.
Everyday they would encircle and torment me.
I was the victim of every elementary and high school bully.
Eventually however they would come to accept me,
then altogether we would torment the victim that came after me.
