Wind song whispered
between drystone wall and hawthorn
morning cold stiffening face and fingers
every clod-n-sod is an obstacle,
my head bowed like a bull 
turning to look down the hill
moments pain and reflection.

My emotions are running raw right now
Like an eggshell, cracked and ready to crumble
Good days are fewer now as sadness suffocates
Memories are like hot embers burning my hands
Beautiful ones, stinging my heart, my psyche 
I want to go back a year ago, have more time
I am trying to make sense of my life and go on
My safe foundation has crumbled and may fall
I need to be strong and hope for sunny days again...

the pieces of
my heart like
a shattered
light bulb

I sweep every
little bit of
eggshell-thin glass
up with my hands
some of the pieces

cut my hands and
make them bleed
but I need every
single piece
I sit at a table

and reassemble
the broken glass
jigsaw puzzle
that was my heart
painstakingly

with glue and
tweezers and
a magnifying
glass because
if I get it just

just right the
light bulb may
light again...

The sound it makes when I make mistakes.
Is really no sound at all.
It's there to hear the words I write.
Whether during the day or late at night.
The blankness of it's eggshell stare.
Reminds me that there's no one there.
It's up to me to speak this time.

They all fly from the same center,
not an anatomical space,
not a specific thingness,
but one revealed goldmine
overpouring.

What did I see,
what do I see?

Butter,
you buttering toast,
your hair all muzzy from sleep.

Yellow sunlight on the kitchen counter.
The blue plate
that has no ready words,

yet speaks for the billions,
that shine from
the one yellow yoke,
in its broken eggshell.
