mister naffy
once this old guy robert naffy
wore clothing made of bright taffy
so whenever it rained
confectioners complained
his suits though tasty were drafty.

Drafty Fair Air
I just couldn't wait for the county fair
All of my family and friends were there
I stumbled and ripped my pants
Nothing but whistles and chants
I forgot to wear any underwear...

Pain
Pain can rip through my belly
and make me sick
open my heart
this is not a trick
split my head so its drafty and hollow
sting my teeth there is nothing to borrow
no solution to stopping what we all know is there
hunger
loss
its just too much to bear....

I do not know?
Enter
Quick whispers in quiet night,
This stretch of time that has no end.
Too fast this whimsy flight.
Shifty shadows down halls descend.
Only candle flutters dim.
Drafty disturbances of cold.
Something whispers of stories grim,
And tales yet untold.

Whisky Dust
Two glasses of whisky
dipped in a cigarette smoke.
The sound of ice
dancing at the bottom
every time we take a sip.
Red rose in an empty bottle
and a little note.
Shine bright my star,
he murmurs and grins,
shine bright.
He touches my hand
and the cage cracks.
Peel me like an egg John,
help me hatch.
Take me under your drafty wings....

Writer's Block
I put my pen to page
and ply my complex craft
Eyes turn inward
to gaze upon
the parlor
of my soul
A dark room
and drafty too
Hollow sounds persist
subtle and gnawing
Something sinister slithers
b'neath the walls
eating at the foundation
never revealing its form
I stumble through
cobwebs to
the door
The walls fall in
on parting glances...

My Old House
My floors are slanted
And tables are tipping
The back porch sags
My bathtub is dripping
A chimney needs pointing
Wood stairs are creaking
My windows are drafty
The old roof is leaking
The toilet is running
My furnace is rusted
A basement that floods
The doorbell is busted
Small narrow closets
What were they made for?
But despite my complaints
Its finally paid for....

Fire
Leaves now crimson red
Faded yellow and brown
In the darkness coals
Flicker like jewels on a crown
Sipping wine and cuddled up
I settle in for sleep
Dogs dozing cats as well
Birds nodding without a peep
Candle flicks to and fro
Drafty house propels its own
Bewitching shadows dancing
Ceremoniously on the wall
I fear conjured beasts
No sleep at all

My Old House
___ ~~ ___
Victorian, drafty, floors crooked, creaking, windows stick, but full of character.

House
A house no more
Save on the distant shore
Of my memory
Cracked window,
Drafty, makes me daffy
"Peeve Room" joys,
Music through the night
Friends and lovers,
Made me warm
Till morning's light
Haunting memories
Of the bumper-car ride of life,
Friends and lovers gone,
And too many an ex-wife,
I can still see out
That cracked window,
That is no more,
Those rooms will die with me,
That home that I did adore....

Delicate Strands of Sound
Flanked by violets and similes
in a drafty den she pens
away fleet hours, pensive, concocting
exotic brews of rarest essence
and scents, honey-tipped phrases
in secret rhythmical chants
known only to denizens of her
innermost sanctum, where she,
perches, chin in hand, arranging
delicate strands of sound, eliciting
murmurs from those gathered, who lionize her
though she remains as the dust underfoot...

Soul Winter-
Dismal dark dreary purposed poised
Winters breeze rain icy snow blows
Doused dusting dead driven snows
Bitter colds biting drafty bleaks
Intensifying ice- kissed cheeks
Body armored flannel-fleece
So Winters animated life
Frozen senses desires light
Benign appeased nature's wife
In the Northern Hemisphere
Make sure you shiver make sure you go" blurr"
Coldest season of the year
