A Chill Breeze Blows in the Ghetto

A chill breeze blows in the ghetto
radiators silent -- empty cupboards rattle

Raw hands wince from the sting of snow
a chill breeze blows in the ghetto

A mother huddles with her brood in a drafty room
no heat emanates from the ice-cold moon

Their cries die in the wind-swept snow
~ a chill breeze blows in the ghetto

you made this poem feel 'real'; it gave me pause...especially liked the last two lines. Thanks for this poem

I can feel the pain that is being felt from the lines penned. You have done a very good job of letting the emotions run through your work. Thank you for sharing it with us. Sara K
