So I wrote a poem
About the miracle of life
And posted it quite proudly
However naming it
Life Insurance
I fear the soup finds dowdy

some people think us rowdy
we greet them with a howdy
and once in our barn
they get a tall yarn
and some apple pan dowdy.

Doris was dowdy, drab, and draggle-tailed too
Forever frumpy, frightened, a failure, at age thirty-two
Jaundiced, juicy-gossipy, jealous, and July jailed
Slovenly, slithery, shipwrecked, her moment had sailed.

Mating Season
flashing bright plumage, peacock attracts mate
dowdy, brown peahen quivers...
monsoon rains on the way

She was a rather bland woman
Dowdy, dressed in tans and browns
She did not share any history
I did not know any of her towns
She brought pumpernickel bread to work
And shared it with me, along with butter.
I did not care if she did not speak anymore.
It was fabulous with dollops of peanut butter.

Along the path, I think of you.
Along the trees of gray.
And too, I think, it's good I do.
Within this shadow play.
Where sunlight's but a peekaboo,
The waters pigged a Prussian blue,
And the empty seat that misses you,
In my dowdy cabriolet.

Light Verse
My almond tree is prettier than your almond tree.
It sure is! Wow! It is gorgeous!
Pause to regroup.
My porch steps are glamorous; yours are drab and dowdy.
I cannot argue with this.
Pause to regroup.
My daddy’s taller than your daddy.
Who is my Daddy?
Don’t you know?
No. Do you?
Conversation takes a whole new turn.

Spring Mischief
Lusty sunbeams twirl in tangos
Gusty clouds in wild fandangos
Rowdy windstorms dip and glide
Dowdy mornings step aside
Cloudy caches swing and sway
Dowdy drizzles sent far away
The sharp air softens then sings
A wink, a smile – mischief of spring.

Sheila was blowsy, frowsy, frumpish, dowdy.
matching her unkempt messy, sloppy abode.
gone to seed, meanies said in a nasty way.
we kids saw through Sheila’s shabby drabness.
she was entertaining and fun, and she liked children.
best of all, she had a good heart and terrific stories.
meanies could not even dream of this personality for themselves.

My brother reprobator and oedipus.
Nimble selictor, nisus impersonale muss.
Improvidence, goggle eyed or irrational,
Instigate inane dowdy, kinsfolk isolate fuss.
Paramour or inamorato objurgate carlish,
Impune contrivance, obfuscate gobble tush.
A partner inauspicious or inartificial indigent,
Not same as before lumber or lurcher hiss.
Irremissible offence fidget formidable lead,
My parents exaggerate emotions I ever miss.

the moon sparkled with a magic the world had not seen
spring blossoms on trees were dazzling in her happy sheen
tiny purple violets on the ground felt dowdy in compare
a mystical sense of entitlement was in the evening air
grasses reassured the tiny flowers they were beautiful too
especially, they told them, when you open up with dew
lavender tree had no idea she was the object of jealousy
the moon suspected this however, for he was envious of this tree
