Chase the Hyphen

Chase Johnson-Mullins
was originally thought of as one of the dull’uns
then the hyphen was added
after most of his stats were conveniently padded.

Forget

run & hide hands a
flailing i lost my tail
while it was hailing
hellfire reigning &
i'm hailing a cab
waving heil hi-----
i purposely conveniently
forget the tab

Premium Member Retrospection

In retrospection, I should have been the bigger person.
But how could have I been, when I was the one secretly hurting
From that secret you had simply and conveniently forgotten...?

Mother

Nourishment lies
Under my shirt,
Ready in an instant
Served up conveniently
In its own package.
Greedy

Mouths
Only
Taking what they need.
Hunger
Ending. Eventually
Resting
Form: Acrostic

Premium Member I Should Have Avoided the Candy

I should have avoided the candy
while it was conveniently handy.
If I had the power to abstain,
I would not be experiencing this pain.
I have a toothache while I live.
Seeing the dentist is the only alternative.

Inspired by another member's poem.

Casualty of a Chemical Warfare

They found him outside the hospital,
Conveniently.

How he managed to get there
All his brain was blown away now,

There he stood in the emergency room
Pronouncing simply and forevermore 'Uh.'

The heart wrenching lament of
A defeated weekend warrior.

Why

Why do I do it.
Why with each dime I get,
Do I conveniently forget
My promise to myself,
To stop, to do something else.
I can’t, but believe I can.
My belief is lost,
When money finds my hand.
This is the last.
I swear. No more.
The hangover fades.
Why do I do it restored.

Ottava Rima #1

I awaken in a bed full of space,
Listening to the silence that greets me.
I quickly find myself in the embrace
Of a room that is as dark as can be.
I cook my single serving eggs with grace,
With my single serving toast and hot tea.
My tea is conveniently made for one,
With no left overs, when the meal is done.

Premium Member He Does Love Me

in his cave
 he still loves me
 like an ostrich
 he thinks
 time
 conveniently
 freezes
 for his time out

 he takes time
 to recharge
 he’ll come back
 expecting
 I didn’t notice
 he was gone

 he’ll come back
 telling me
 and
 showing me
 that he truly
 does love me

 men really are from Mars

Premium Member Buttered Toast

Stuck here in thought,
holding the door shut
against the demons outside.

Watching the darkness descend
all around you.
Facts no longer count.
It's the new millennium, you say,
that must be the cause!

You conveniently forgot
past dark ages that
have appeared before.
Just ride it out.

Nightmares turn into
buttered toast at the
first light of dawn

Untitled '96 - 2

You had hoped for tears
in some peculiar way,
you almost wished to weep
but did not.
You almost wished to weep
but did not bother.
You had no desire
to break your languishing comfort
in search of the chain of paper -
conveniently, smirkingly soft -
that would clear the morose slime
from your still dignified nose.
You returned,
perhaps again to weep.

1996

Should We?

Oh yes, we were born free
Of sickness and pain,
Wandering in the splendor of time;
We grow old, with our family and friends;
Full of love, a peaceful life;
Then, one day we fell ill,
A time of trials,
A time to doubt,
For the disease, exploring conveniently
Our bodies and minds, not to our delight;
Should we then lose our trust, in Him, the One
Who created us, without stain?

Tissue Box

Though it has been five and twelve years
and you are both now tucked safely deep
in the unfathomed depths of sub-conscious
At times you still invade troubled dreams

Oozing cold sweat; wrestling unseen demons
Jolting half awake and bolting upright
(No-no-no-why-where have you gone)
I find it placed conveniently at arm's length

A trembling, fumbling hand reaches out
to grab hold and blow away memory…

Premium Member Fashionable Cat Keeps Her Secrets

No matter who you ask
If you expect two adjectives
One of them will be fashionable
She is a diva cat, dressed to the eights.

I would have said nines, but that is rude
considering what nine means in the lives of a cat.
She arrived today with a self-portrait bag.
We begged to know where she ordered it.

Of course she had conveniently forgotten,
not wanting to share her fashionable ways
with the rest of us.

Sensored To Death

Sound and motion sensors in our homes,
Sensors wherever we roam,
Tracking devices and sensors on our cars,
Sensors staring at us while we watch Hollywood Stars,
Our words and privacy have become exploited and
sensored to death,
conveniently sensors are never around when people are struggling
for a breath,
Confidentiality as we know it, has died and gone away,
Our lives have become fodder for the sinful.......

Set Yourself Free

Don't listen to your mind, it has been influenced by society,
Listen to your heart, it is the door to your soul

Imagine what it would be like to be a bird and soar across the sky, away from everything,  no boundaries or fear along your path. No one can chain me down if i don't let them.

Most of us so conveniently blame our situations on others, unable to see the beauty within, our freedom to choose can indeed be a difficult one

Kite

I am a kite,
My yellow heart trapped in the confines of
Two short poles.

My white ribbons spread around me like
Harsh streetlight rays
(In the mornings I conveniently dim to nothing)

I sway tamely to the rhythm of the breeze
I am at the wrong party.

I am stretched
My string spread out straight
A roman
Dead end road.

And I am wrapped around my father’s fingers
Which are whitening at the tips
He is scared.

Will I plummet
Or will I fly?

Convenient

Conveniently you were
Always there for me
Denounce my foes
Held me tight through my woes
Covered my steps
When the wrong path I choose
Conveniently I nestled
In your bossom
Was there when descisions
I made weren't the best
Saw through my lies
When I wouldn't confess
You are the rain
When my world becomes dry
Holding the tissue
When my eyes they cry
When my soul hurts
And needs relief
You perform miracles
Beyond Belief.

Outcast

Unfriendly hands
thrusting...pushing me
out the door
of "a perfect world".
Rejected.
"You should be with your own kind".
"You have no place here".
"WE DO NOT WANT CRIPPLES".
Cripple.
A label given by people living in a sterile world.
They cannot let us mar
their snow white creation.
So conveniently they forget-
(shut away, we cannot bother them).
My soul cries to be released but
I am silent.
For I know
it would do no good.

The Blinded Fall To Damascus

Truth has become socially malleable,
personally customized and saleable.

Ruled Politically incorrect,
by the self appointed elect.

We’ve hit that slippery slope running,
led by diabolical cunning.

We're on that horse and galloping like Saul,
persecuting salvation...right St Paul?

The sin is the same as it used to be,
just a different apple tree.

Work out your salvation in fear and trembling,
for Truth and lies are conveniently blending.

Easy Heart

And this is why
I have decided
To leave
It there

Incongruity meets ignorance
Your charms fall short
Your words scar
Unobtrusively

Insistently
You choose to see
Through the lens
Of yourself, and
Nowhere close to me

You choose to be
Fooled
By exactly what I am—
To the unthinking,
Merely
Another

Uncertainty meets unrest
Your heart beats much too
Near yourself
Comfortably,
Conveniently

And this is why
I have decided
To leave
It there

America the Shameful

The statement that stands

upon an amputated narrative

A brand name theory

that sells more than generic truth

Written histories more legendary than the commonplace occurrences they are derived from

Epiphanies of egregious behavior

attributable to the highly revered

A parallel universe where scoundrels

are no longer hidden under layers of

conveniently contrived heroism and courage

Exposed and repulsive, covered in the blood

of centuries of redacted hypocrisy
