Carl Edward Sagan
who thought he was a pagan
instead of hanging out in bars
he learned to study stars
on
sunday morning
on
the
inner-city playgrounds
even
the
snow monkeys
get
entangled
upon
the
steel monkey bars
I soar to the heavens and beyond
with wings of gossamer I respond,
and in the light of the stars
God and I sing a few bars...
forever in harmonious bond.

He sings "behind prison bars" blues
'cause he's walked in another man's shoes!
He feels so bereft
since identity theft
only works until one pays his dues.
(not for the contest; it's too short)
Lemon Bars Like Shining Stars
Remember when we would eat lemon bars;
Had ended up with ulcers and many scars;
With haste,
Would taste;
In space they would look like shining stars.

Bars of rage by Adejola Joseph
Bars of rage
Angry
Very angry
What does anger bring?
City of destruction
Temple of anxiety
Anger is a boiling water
An H2SO4 acidic
Bars of rage
Anger.
The girl on the monkey bars
Hanging upside down
The girl with the auburn plaits
Riding through the town
The girl with the toothy grin
Hopping to one knee
The girl in this rhyming tale
Is the one and only me
Today it was so hot
I had a Haagen-Dazs
ice cream bar
Three minutes later
I went back
to the Korean deli
and this time
I had a Twix
ice cream bar
If you are counting
that's two ice cream bars
in a matter of minutes
ah universal rehearsal of the base beat for my heart to really get thumping to my lyrics,not yours cause you have your own lyrics and base beat you play everyday with or without rehearsal,the base beat it is universal..4 bars please.
The girl on the monkey bars
Looks like a boy from afar
Swaying up and down
Huge muscles on both arms.
Trying to imitate spiderman
Shifting from bar to bar to stun
To show her unique kind of sport
By dropping her loose shorts.
Thoughts
Trapped
Inside
Behind bars
Scales tipped unbalanced
Lack of harmony breeds this chord
Caged word's rhythmic pounding amplifies a deep, dark funk
Deliverance awaits, the blues scribbled into wall graffiti, notes penned behind bars
Shoot for the moon, if you miss you'll still be among the stars
Who said that, some smart fellow that ate too many Mars bars
Too many are not smart
They can affect your farts
They can literally explode and blow you off the cart
There was once a man named Barnaby Lars
Who had spent twenty-five years behind bars
Now it ain't what you might think
He could concoct a great drink
At Clancy's Saloon smoking fine cigars
Sweet, sugary and delicious
Made out of cocoa beans
The dark, rich brown color,
makes me hungry all the time.
I want to eat it again and again,
Till I drop from exhaustion.
The taste would never round out,
For if, it would, I would be so sad to see it gone.
words chosen carefully
from the throne of God
tell of hope of destiny
nothing strange or odd
mailed to the outside
where eyes waited patiently
told of these great words
they were made for publishing
(for Abe Lopez contest letter from the Birmingham jail.)

Behind these Bars
I'm behind these bars
I don't know why.
They put me here from far away.
I see others but can't get out.
I'm just going out of my mine.
Being behind these bars.
I get food twice a day.
And that is my pay
I'm a tiger, that's behind these bars.
The greatest fear for my blood;
I shall see you next through bars,
Facing felonies I am afraid for you,
A ‘tough’ mindset,
It will get you nowhere positive;
Within those locked doors,
I fear for you my blood,
That the next time I face you;
It shall be through bars.
I’m singing the Behind Bars Blues,
And thinking over my mistakes.
It’s hard to be here in my shoes.
I’m singing the Behind Bars Blues.
Parole will be such welcome news!
I look for hidden files in cakes.
I’m singing the Behind Bars Blues,
And thinking over my mistakes.
I took my new friend from Mars,
to the store not to the bars.
He was accompanied by his little green dog,
many thought he was a funny looking frog.
They messed their little green suits,
so no more fresh fruits.
A diaper they will need,
so they can go home and be freed.
The girl on the monkey bars
Was once quite a playground star
She fell one day in the park
Lost her footing but gained a spark
She became quite a strange canary
Making up new games and words like qillary
Not a plain Jane she is a crazy Cherry
She hurts no one but her laugh is scary
the buxom girl on the monkey bars,
swung around, legs open wide, on arms,
she wore her lace nickers on her head,
that raised general public alarms.
All men watched standing, all stiff erect,
most bachelors, one with wedding ring,
no one cared! what’s moral or correct?
why resist, when lass does such a thing?
The sun shines in through the window, So careful but yet loving. Inviting you to come out and join it. Alas' you are behind imaginary bars that keep you bound to an endless task. The Sun is now persistent and hotter. It tries to to scorch and melt the bars but yet there is no luck. You are trapped forever inside the bars.
sky is dark in the day,
light as shadows;
their invisible pull on
the girl falling pane;
black star beam
like Van Gogh striking
a frame, memories
clog fingerprints;
mad face of color;
on glass run ghosts,
window is looking in
I have to ignor the captured
tails of iron fences as the bars
on my doors and windows
corrupt the view.
Hidden among rooves and
concrete the sky is the color
of a doll's face.
I have looked through these
bars for so long I don't see
them anymore, only a new view,
unique, with a sea of pink clouds
and delicate seabirds flying.
The girl on the monkey bars likes to bring joy
particularly to every young boy.
who shows up on the school playground.
As she hangs from the bars, the boys gather round
and stand underneath her. I bet you know why.
To look up her dress, the young boys try.
That girl on the monkey bars – I do declare -
some days, so naughty, wears no underwear.
