Though the Banister
i know i should know better
but i don't you know i don't
the blood on you hands
is not on your hands
you can't even see it
because it's all over mine
just a child living a dream
i know i should know better
but i don't you know i don't...

Premium Member The Sadness of Things
I'm woozy with the uncertainties of life.
I'm staggering back and forth,
slamming into one wall and then another.
I cling to a banister
wondering how it can be
that I'm even alive.
Bitter to be still living.
Grateful to have survived so long....

Premium Member Curvaceous Banister
Curvaceous banister was practically obscene
The king loved it, but not his persnickety queen
She ordered it taken to the burn pile
The carpenter swiftly lost his brilliant smile
King secretly gave the banister a total save
It is now proudly displayed in his private man cave...

Stairway To the Morning
We made the stairs our place

    Painted the walls

    With memories of last night

    And planted

    Bottoms onto the carpeted steps

    We stretched our arms across the banister

    To measure

    How quickly the shadows shrink

    As the bags under our eyes creased

    Into tiny smiles...

Premium Member Stepping Down Stairs
I
see you
coming down the
stairs walking holding the
banister ever so carefully still
dizzy yet head still swimming such
..........I need the aid of someone too!
.......................to catch and or hold me so I,
don't want to fall walking, stepping down these stairs

Premium Member Take the Staircase
Take the staircase,
although it may change as you move;
Take the journey,
even if you slide down a banister or two;

Take two steps when you can,
take one when it suits;
Take that chance,
although you may need another;

Never think there is nowhere to go;
the only dead end is you;
Take the staircase,
lean back and enjoy the view....

The Banister of Life
Sliding down the banister of life... make sure the splinters point away. Let go of what's gone behind. Face the bumps with courage. Don't mourn your journey. Slide with laughter... it's the ride of your life.

A Bitter Pill Swallowed
You made me into
a pregnant pause,

the scratch
on the banister,
beside a dim photo
eaten by time and wear,
I felt diminished

but as the scarab turned
the dung
so did life revolve
to remember
the existence
of the scratch

I am now a canyon,
never step too near the edge,

for the groove is now
fathoms deep,
and I will swallow you up
as if you never were …...

Premium Member The Shadow On the Wall
Two hats hanging on the banister
Stacked on top of each other
When the sun shines the shadow
Appears on the beige wall
The sun  shows a shape
A face on the wall

Appears wearing a hat
A face on the wall
The eye m nose, and mouth
He is staring at me
The face is sideways

It is why one eye down
Part of his lip and hat
His shadow is sideways
That is how he appears
Every sunny day...

Ominously Endearing
up the slightly winding stairway

                my fingers sliding on the varnished

                       contour of the burnished banister

                    that feels like an ominously

               smooth, sinuous anaconda,

        but happily undulating

       under my palm

            like a kitten purring

                     gratefully at being

                                   caressed......

Out of nowhere,an idea
   Then image;
Out of this picture,a sentence,
   Then a page;
Out of the verse,a sonnet,
   Then a rhyme;
Out of this art,a hobby
   So sublime

labelled this imagist form 'a tabb' in his honour.

EVOLUTION
by: John Banister Tabb (1845-1909)
Out of the dusk a shadow,
Then, a spark;
Out of the cloud a silence,
Then, a lark;
Out of the heart a rapture,
Then, a pain;
Out of the dead, cold ashes,
Life again....

Down the Bannister Lickety Split
Down the Bannister Lickety Split

By Elton Camp

As a youngster, the stairs were a delight
I ran up and down them day and night

Whenever nobody was around to see
I’d zip down the rail quick as could be

It really was a daring and a bit risky ride
So that’s why to do it, I was forced to hide

It was an exciting and speedy little trip
And made more fun because I had to slip

I’m now old and stairs are dangerous to me
I’d try the banister again if nobody could see...
