Ominously Endearing

up the slightly winding stairway 

                my fingers sliding on the varnished

                       contour of the burnished banister

                    that feels like an ominously 

               smooth, sinuous anaconda,

        but happily undulating 

       under my palm

            like a kitten purring 

                     gratefully at being 

                                   caressed...
