old man invited me to lunch
I was young; he was an ancient antique
what would we talk about? I asked.

I felt weird about it.
I was young, cute sexy, sassy.

I said “Maybe another time.”

Fifty years later I remember his look of disappointment

What if he helped Ukraine's people
rather than crushing their buildings and steeples
What if he took the high road
versus death and destruction for gold
Then we would have world peace
and all would be at ease

You always want the opposite
If I say yes you say no
If I say nay you say yay
