ANGIE, that last slow dance in smoky haze—
you slipped UNDER MY THUMB like twilight’s ache.
The Rolling Stones crooned fate through tangled days;
I tried to PAINT IT BLACK for mercy’s sake.
But YOU CAN’T ALWAYS GET WHAT YOU WANT—truth stings—
just loaded TUMBLIN DICE in neon towns,
chasing HONKY TONK WOMEN on borrowed wings
while WILD HORSES dragged dreams to thorny grounds.
O RUBY TUESDAY, ghost in sequin sheen,
your laugh a roulette wheel’s bright, spinning sound.
The jukebox plays what might-have-been,
where every win was loss, and lost was found.
Stones still roll… but honey, in the end,
the house takes all. Even diamonds bend.

There is a girl known as twinkle toes
Who is dancing wherever she goes
She’s the sequin queen
Shines like a sunbeam
Such a shame the girl sports a hook-nose.

I had never seen a glitzier, prettier pink sequin coat.
These were not ordinary sequins, they were elongated.
Reminded me of shiny sequin purses we saw in the sixties.
Who is wearing that coat? I wondered, trying to get a look.
Of course, it is my niece Charlene, nothing is too pretty for her.
She gave me her usual smile, the one I have seen since she was two.
An only child, a princess, beloved by her parents and the rest of us.
At sixteen, I still looked at her face and saw that two-year-old-toddler.

Ice on the trees
shines like Diamonds
Artistry of the season
Mother Nature's finest
As if they're a beacon
spun by Sequin Spiders
Ice on the trees
shines like Diamonds
Ice on the eaves
Gleams like diamonds
It's fifteen degrees
Winter's frozen climate
Mother Nature's Decree
before a new horizon
Icicles on the eaves
Gleam just like Diamonds

Sequin, the baby witch had a black kitty named Baby Twitch.
They were such a team, this adorable duo. Not a glitch.
They enthralled the grownups and made them smirk and smile.
They are the cutest, her grandma said, looking down the aisle.
Where Sequin and Baby Twitch were sitting on a pumpkin fine.
They grew up together, and loved each other, these babes of mine.

Pucks and Picks two skinflints
Quietly and disdainfully blacken sequins
With their dour, disastrous ways.
Dorothy, one sequin got away.
She was the shiny blue one.
She happily quit running after realizing
How slow they were
Pucks and Picks sent the hounds to fetch her
But their skin was soaked by the time they arrived
And Dorothy was lying in the sun, laughing at them.
She had already shaped herself into a
Star, and was waiting for lightning shocks to come along
So she could be hurled into the night
where she could more readily laugh at Pucks and Picks efforts.
