Semicircle Poems | Examples

The twilight of the morning

The holes of the lace curtain,
Having closed the winter windows.
Life shimmers like so coveted blueberries.
So many pieces of obscurity.
The tops of the trees are spinning in the wind,
In a semicircle, back and forth,
Like whipping up the raw material for a biscuit.
Or maybe they're wringing their necks?
The wind has thrown the rumble of trains
Into a soundproof bag.
Every human is asleep.

Premium MemberFreeing the Ghosts of Dreams

The long and tortuous road that
You travelled which brought you here
Explains the position you are at
And influences your hopes and fears.
Sometimes you travelled in circles,
Sometimes you followed straight paths,
Sometimes you went in a semicircle
Before returning to life’s long path.

But whatever has happened to you,
Remember that you affected your fate
When you decided your dreams could never come true;
Then started living the life you hate.
So, maybe it is time for you to decide
To break free from fate’s whirlpool and stop
Being the person you yourself deride
Knowing in your soul that you are not.

It may not be too late for you to be
The person that you should have been.
Maybe now is the time for you to free
The ghosts of your dreams trapped within.
So, mobilize creativity that you’ve neglected,
And plan your life forward from here.
Because life is too precious to be wasted,
And time has become too dear.

Three-Point Shot

Three Point Shot

You reach the line, an almost perfect semicircle, racing from one side of the court to the other, avoiding the hoop In a soft wide arc, Your shoes biting deep into the floor, As you come to a halt, Announcing it to the world with a short, piercing squeak Tearing through the atmosphere, to the stands With the ball nestled in your hands, just yearning to take flight, You rise, knowing that your defenders can’t reach you Everything but the ball and hoop a distant memory Your hands travel through the same motions you know so well, Knowing, even before the ball leaves your grasp, you’ve already won, This time You finally release the ball, with a quick, decisive snap of the wrist Sending it arcing through the air with pinpoint accuracy, Racing towards the net

Silence, and then, swish
Crisp, clear as a spring morning
Play continues on

Announcing it to the world with a short, piercing squeak

You finally release the ball, with a quick, decisive snap of the wrist
Sending it arcing through the air with pinpoint accuracy,
Racing towards the net

Swish

Crisp and clean as a clear spring morning

The ball drops through the net, as the net snaps upwards
You breathe a sigh of relief and relax,
As play continues on

The Day Winter Came

THE DAY WINTER CAME

I was an angry stranger to such
Outpouring of praise,
Numb from burning agony within,

We sat in a semicircle before the screen,
Me, purposefully not in eye
Contact with another human being,
Vaguely dreaming a crowded darkness
That had suddenly taken over the senses,

Could not honour a life when death
Had snatched away a loving presence,
Seemingly constant.

A dull rage held me fast,
Poisoning each breath I took.
I was consumed in secret
By my own grief,
Having no desire to share the pain.
I had nowhere to go,
Unable to leave a state of indecision,

Now the memory returns
Like an overwhelming flood,
As the very day of cruel knowledge
Is followed by further celebration
Of the same life, lived long in
The public spotlight.

Sometime soon, the flame
Will gradually be extinguished,
But I will always remember
The day winter came.

Fireflies

Beneath hardened and thickened wings,
Twinkling soft and cold mystical lights mesmerize.
Showing off Reels, jigs, poussettes, and flings.
Dark nooks cutely they burglarize.

Swaying around their electronic duff,
Spreading friendly vibes, they light up the dark.
Elated with joy they flash out language of love.
Lost in their sight I dodge like a narc.

Smitten with their joyful acts of wheedle.
They are as precious as they contrive.
Yes, I am flattered by these cute little beetles.
For they spread smile though for just few days they survive.

Word Reference:
Narc: Police officer who specializes in laws dealing with illegal drugs
Duff: Buttocks
Reels: Swaying
Jigs: Lively dance with leaping movements
Poussettes: Swing in a semicircle with hands joined with one's partner in a country-dance.
Flings: A short period of enjoyment
Contrive: Create or bring about (an object or a situation) by deliberate use of skill and artifice
Smitten: Be strongly attracted to someone or something
Wheedle: Use flattery to persuade

~ ...and the yonge sonne, hath in
the Ram his halve course y-ronne... ~
                                Canterbury Tales, Geoffrey Chaucer

Today is Tuesday, all day
but in the middle of the night
it'll be Wednesday. Will you
be there to greet the new day...

Perhaps you greet the New Year
on January 1, which is a new day too
Do you greet each month, instead
of each day -- in lieu...

The Gregorian calendar's based on
the sun, so why doesn't a new day
start when its race is run; that's how
the lunar calendar views it...

The pale white satellite, or semicircle, or banana
commencing its journey in the early eve
passing its weary friend, a fresh face for twilight
along with a 'hostess of twinklies' to light up the night

An Immortal Demise

Streaks of light
 in splendid symmetry,
Carefully crocheted clouds,
A tailor-made semicircle.
A stolen moment.
My eyes fixated on the
fiery blaze under its veil,
A blood orange kiss on
every blue cloud’s tip.

He slips with every
tug at the cord,
As the silvered moon
rose on her smoky sled
Heavy clouds drag themselves,
mourning along the
sodden cold night...
Until the dimmed stars
gleamed into spotlight.

As though a Japanese fan,
The spine tingling sky
has folded itself
into the night.
Winter or summer,
dusk always sheds a
lingering iciness behind:

Didn’t today just die?

Premium MemberMy Sun Room

I've never known a fixed address. I love the home we've made for three years in our rental house so I'm sad that it's now up for sale. Last night, I sat in the sunroom thinking of how much I'll miss the joy I feel while in that room.

two walls are all window, one an eastern exposure
the other walls, floor and ceiling are old red, knotty wood
the brick fireplace has a beautifully carved, simple mantel
approximately twenty houseplants on antique stools thrive
on the floor among the plants is a life-sized, carved, wooden swan
many mobiles of either angels or hearts hang from the ceiling
on the mantel sits my collection of antique weather vanes
there are five, mismatched chairs in a semicircle
two spindle leg tables sit among the five chairs
on one table is an imitation antique radio tuned to light rock
in a corner, on a stand we built, is an electric keyboard
on one wall in a case we built, there is a dartboard
and everywhere in the room are memories of good, fulfilling times spent

Dusty Dog Soul

I keep brightening my Goal
with my soft dusty dog soul
gray-and-yellow heavy fringes
waving
jazzy movements
in a white wine atmosphere
so many disquiet shoulders sustain
this little heaven called Mental Bar
drinking colours directly from the rainbow
to complete the circuit
with the pale semicircle
which is the brain filament of a naked poet
before the surgery
and after a holly lifetime trying to digest
the stone cross which keeps the body up
which keeps the democratic convention going
along the poor streets inside him,
internal pilgrimage towards a shiny Self
fed with big ripe words
about nothing
late summer afternoon
white paper around me
to keep my dusty dog soul
in clear purity.

Alphabets

Has anyone ever given a thought?
What sense these alphabets make.?
From where did they originate?

Do these letter really mean something, individually?
Or these are mere signs?
Is there any logic beside its origination?

Why is it that '/'and '\',
separated by a dash '-',
together makes 'A'?

Why do we call,
The combination of
'|' and '3' as 'B'?
Why is it that
vertical semicircle is
termed as 'C'?

Is there's any history,
any story about these alphabets?

Why is the combo of '|',
Followed by 3 dashes is 'E';
Where as it 2 then its 'F'?

What if a kid asks his teacher-
"why a single line is 'I',
two such lines,separated by a '-'
is being called as 'H'?
Whereas, when '_',
follows the single line,
it is known as'L'?"

What would the teacher say?
How will she explain?
.
How is it that '|' and '|',
when separated by '^' is 'W';
Whereas, its invertible is 'M'?

Do they narrate any story;
about their existence?

A circle is 'O';
Whereas, just a line,
Converts it into 'Q'?

Its so messy,
very confusing;
lines and signs turning to alphabets!

A snake like letter is 'S',
Whereas combination of some lines;
builds a letter 'Z'?

Can anyone please explain???

I Am Walking On Sharp Edges

Hold me tight, my friend,
I am going to sail in damnation.
Between devil and saint
I have lost my home.

A wooden ship is on fire
at the turbulent sea
and I am going to welcome you
on the starboard.
I would keep the funeral in waiting.

Flowering of the ashes has begun
in urn. Sitting in semicircle, you watch
the spilling. Bones meet mother earth.
Death creates the challenge.

Go for a tree, watch your silence,
we are going for a contradiction.
The thoughts are same, but not similar.
I am walking on sharp edges.
