Upon the final strains of Summer's swansong,
Autumn makes her appearance,
singing a harmonious hymn of hues
with scarlets, ambers, golds and russets,
the trees resplendent in their festive finery.
In the still pleasant air
the foliage falls as feathers, slow dancing;
an emerging carpet, chattering in the breeze,
sending sweet sounds of a susurrus symphony.
The music of autumn leaves
is a serenade for the senses...
a paean to Gaia: soft, soothing, serene.

Scarlet was impulsive, impetuous, and hasty.
Her cousins said her decisions were reckless.
I felt they were repeating their parents’ words.
Their parents made fun of everyone.
Scarlet was intuitive, determined and lucky too.
Most of the time her decisions panned out for her.
She married a man after knowing him nine days.
Their marriage lasted 71 years, until his death.
Scarlet quit twenty-eight jobs before finding her career.
Nay-saying cousins had much to say about this.
She quit many jobs on the first day, before lunch.
They thought this was hysterically amusing.
When you quit jobs this fast, it does not take long…
to successfully eliminate twenty-eight jobs that were not right.
She returned to school and became a counselor.
She loved this job, held on to it for twenty-seven years.
The cousins no longer call her reckless.
They consider her risk-taking wise now.
She has been content most of her life.
I think the cousins are more forgiving since their parents are gone.

brilliant red maple tree
with her vibrant leaf flames
she gives me pause
her scarlets are as onfire as cinnabar
reminding me of sun fire and blood
I love her

Scarlets bright
amber's light
colorful leaves frolick near
enjoying the season before they fear
the arrival of fall
it's just nature's call
with radiance comes a chill
jack-o'-lanterns burn at will
autumns rustling sounds
flannels and bonfires abound
Outdoor living at it's best
Warm cider, pumpkin cookies for the fest
A celebration for the preservation of life I profess
Cooler temperatures are not always my favorite I confess
But the season of spooks.witches and goblins is
So enjoy falls splendor as it is
full of laughter fun and more
so enjoy everything to it's core

A long armed Groot at the root of this fruit/
The strong alarmed the wrong loot and followed through against the coup/
Flipped script is ridiculous as I re-jiggle this penned mess/
Stripped it’s ludicrous how crude I kiss and caress this sent injustice/
Picked up this food for our crust to protrude and fizz it does just this/
Slicked pup as my hood busts who’s suave and sends scoffs sideways/
Songs sung to scarlets of Joe’s hands spun off Scarlett Johansson/
Strung out lawns by harlots with no land sum/
A lung tout to spawn a poet’s lot for ransom/
That air brung stout gruel to sew it’s spot and some
Along through I tote a lance to hum and be hung/
Strong brute while hope’s a branch slung/
A long armed groot flips style and gropes leafs to inch along/
The linguistic sower to sword through heaps and hues of sorrow/
The wing’s wish stick is sore from the word brews arrow/
Cut that stings wick as it's more phlegm for the fruits aglow.

rich sunset colors
hold memories of the day
scarlets for the rose
purple evokes plums
orange was butterfly noon
lavender calls scents
peach was the fall leaves
yellows for buttercup dawn
white was glowing smiles
colors are moving

Spring starts with the drip, drip, drip of icicles,
as longer days of sunshine warm the air.
And more people ride bicycles
when the weather turns
from freezing to mild.
Springtime triggers
tulips, daffodils, and crocuses
to poke through the thawed ground;
seemingly overnight.
And from blades of grass to budding trees,
Nature inks the landscape
in multiple shades of green.
Suddenly, spectacular colors emerge
from the ground;
scarlets, pinks, yellows, blues, and purples
are all gleaned from Spring's palette.
And early on, the twittering songbirds return;
tweeting tunes
that defy the length of Winter's rule.
Soon, a lune's eerie, haunting call
will once more echo across the northern lakes.
And the icy waters will turn from cold to cool;
while Winter morphs into Spring.

Why do you call this slumbering beauty Autumn Fox?
Look beyond her just a bit to her north and southeast.
See the foxes curled up next to her? She is their hero.
She comes in swiftly with a wind that has trees raining.
They love it when the leaves are piled up in cozy bed.
In scarlets, ambers, browns and yellows. Autumn’s frocks.
She slumbers easily, showing them her vulnerability.
They feel safe now, in her cooler days, between spring and winter.
Fox eyes the exact same amber color as her own.
Trusting October and November to provide memories
That will help them sleep through the worst days of winter.
Autumn Fox with her beautiful autumn reds and browns.

Colors of autumn make me smile
Golden browns, russets, scarlets too
Sky today looks vibrant blue
Squirrels leap tree to tree
Gorgeous autumn day
Crazy pretty
Beautiful
Dainty

Scarlets, purples, greens and blues.
deeply dark colors,
not enhancing the stark black blowing tree
rather making it appear darker
Where is the sun? someone asked.
When she gets here, she might be able to fix this
It was midnight. Hours before her arrival time.
The forest was morose, sad, deeply bereft.
The animals curled up and slept,
understanding that it would be chilly
Keeping their babies close.
The faeries hid in cracks and crevices
The sun woke them all up
A glorified pop of yellow that
warmed the valley,
changing everything
for she brought hope and joy
and the exact right color
Enhancing the darkness of the
purples, reds, blues and green.
The forest and meadow cheered
when they awoke to see the sun.

(for Scarlets of the world)
Scarlet was born in a house of ill repute.
She learnt early how to use lipsticks, and
Dreams never visited her.
Enslaved by carnivorous nights,
Her heart feared to fly, but
Accompanied her to the church.
One gloomy Sunday, she confessed -
Father, forgive me for I've sinned.
And she had a dream.
She was in heaven, standing in a crowd,
Who kept looking up.
'Even here, people keep looking up',
She thought, and asked
A woman standing next to her -
What are you looking for?
A white smoke - replied the woman.
Scarlet later found out;
'God is only a chimney', and she
Woke up beside a drunk.

from afar, leaves like uncounted catatonic fires
huddled close
pinned to the chill air
a pointillist’s love affair with a hundred shades of red
the ground is a fresh wound, edgeless
a breeze worries the boughs
stokes the hanging flames into quivering
crimsons
scarlets
vermilions
renegade ambers
a slow burn resumes
accompanied by a susurrus of sighs
a dirge for a season
and the summer sky, now turned slate,
is cremated

AUTUMN DREAM
Looking up through the trees from where you sat;
remembering our talking this and that;
though distant from this place I choose to be,
I wonder if you're so removed from me
I cannot reach you from where I am at;
the leaves, now mellowed, stems about to break,
in scarlets, yellows, nature's big mistake,
allowing one to see their silent death
their flutterring to ground in autumn's breath,
like plans we almost thought were ours to make;
from where I am, to where I have to find,
in reaching you, the touching of your mind;
so you will think of me, through time, the thief,
as not just one more broke and falling leaf;
but one you might have loved, though left behind.
and I will find a way, as I must do,
that river through the sky to reaching you;
absurd though it might sound, somehow, it seems,
one cannot think of autumn without dreams,
and dreams all have their way of coming true.
