Spring starts with the drip, drip, drip of icicles,
as longer days of sunshine warm the air.
And more people ride bicycles
when the weather turns
from freezing to mild.
Springtime triggers
tulips, daffodils, and crocuses
to poke through the thawed ground;
seemingly overnight.
And from blades of grass to budding trees,
Nature inks the landscape
in multiple shades of green.
Suddenly, spectacular colors emerge
from the ground;
scarlets, pinks, yellows, blues, and purples
are all gleaned from Spring's palette.
And early on, the twittering songbirds return;
tweeting tunes
that defy the length of Winter's rule.
Soon, a lune's eerie, haunting call
will once more echo across the northern lakes.
And the icy waters will turn from cold to cool;
while Winter morphs into Spring.
