Great and Rugged Pyrenees
Whose solid presence demands
Notice of lush valleys
And Spanish oaks that dot the glens -
Prevailing winds churn in wrath -
I stop to breathe in them;
You cut the horizon in half
And grip my eye with icy hands.
Your cohort - a mix of clouds -
Can't forever hide your majesty.
Seville looks on from the south;
Andorra claims the victory.

Hidden yet rugged
At the bottom of the world
Cool water flowing
High above Hell’s barren gates
High above ringed deception

In the heated jungle city girth
the roads and highways heating heated birth
Burst chuck holes crevice valleys bottomless
Those the asphalt mounds needs cutting resurfacing
Rugged on the streets we drive on over Chuck's holes
And Tom's Bumpy are the sidewalks we stride on
Cracks and holes yet we still go on
With in the cityscape we travel
Rugged are the surfaces

Along life’s pathway we encounter rugged patches
Times when nothing seems to go as we planned,
Smelling the roses is often accompanied by scratches
But, overall, wouldn’t you agree life is quite grand?

I walked today along a winding trail.
The pathway started subtly smooth and flat,
enticing me to take the hike and scale.
I charged the course and started with a scat.
The pathway steepened over rocks and roots
I hastened forward never did I squat.
Instead of walking shoes I needed boots.
A trail so rugged, can make ankles twist.
In rocky terrain there no better routes.
I reached the waterfall and raised my fists.
My mountain trek up Walter’s rugged trail
reminded me that when I face life’s twists,
which sorely threaten my life to derail
if I persevere, I will never fail.

That Cross
Letting earth-bound mind (and soul to) indulge thought
The title of this hymn came to heart and memory
And miraculously, after one "new" hymn I know not
My freshly downloaded file played, "The Old Rugged Cross"
Slowly but suddenly I'm a majority of one (in GOOD company)
Echoing, "Cross, 'emblem of suffering and shame'" has a claim on me
For sinners saved by One who gladly paid for all sin, shame, iniquity
Because He would not let His handiwork (art, by Ancient Trinity) die
My indulgence in thought-life, doubt-life, questioning-life
Could not stand before the "attraction" of The Pure Lamb of God
A bad day in "town" in our "backward" nation (my non-American life)
Erased! Faith and fear may not coexist. Which one do we feed, reward?
That Old Rugged Cross suades us to lay earthly trophies down -
Something true about Calvary, an Artist wanting to save art - His own

Topography- embrace its meaning
Open roadways- visually gleaning
State boundaries- further we'd proceed
Connect-the-dots- we'd follow their lead
Deepened creases- a wider landscape
Artful tearing- revived with clear tape
Thumbprint dirt stained- unplanned souvenirs
Revisited- discovered frontiers

Marion his given name most called him the Duke,
American lad made good living the dream,
Started as a bit actor,
B movie followed B movie he strived for more,
His big break came with the movie stagecoach,
Then everyone knew his name,
A true cowboy rugged good looks gravely voice,
Going to war with indians, gunslingers and more in his films,
The war he lost was to Cancer it won in 79,
Yet he is still remember today a tribute to his acting skill,
A new generation watch his films once again,
John Wayne legend a true star.

For me,
but not for my kids,
it was The Old Rugged Cross
teaching my ego/eco-logic crossed
to believe adults could deprive their Earthly minds
of sacred co-passionate investment
and yet thrive uniformly healthy bodies
of equitable wealthy,
yet sacrificially lonely,
dignity.
Not until I uncovered
The Blessings of the Earth and Sky (K. Patton, J.S. Bach)
did I think to wonder win/win why
Earth and sky, crossed and yet recovered
more resilient Earthly bodies together, than apart,
with skyward polyphonic minds soaring
not uniform aspiring
prey avoiding predators
yet unity inspiring Earth's communal co-relationships.
How ever did we get this strange left-brain nightmare,
wealthy bodies
can be severed,
crossed out
away from mental passion for health,
co-responsive
interdependent webs
of Earth and Sky
secular and sacred,
liberating science and liberal multi-enculturing arts,
integrity's double-crossed communion
of Earth's original healthing wealthy purpose.

R-ugged wind waves goodbye,
H-aving faded into the night;
O-nce the twilight ends,
N-ew dawn sets things
A-right.
E-arly morn March thirtieth
S-ees the break of day;
C-rimson sun Thursday
O-pens the sky without delay.
B-eacon bathes your heart,
A-s the cold chill passes by;
L-ight warms your mind, rugged wind waves goodbye.

M-isty air early Saturday
I-s nowhere in sight;
R-ise of the sun begins,
A-fter the long cold night.
M-orn twenty-fifth February
A-ims to meet the dawn;
D-ay has just broken,
R-ays come from the beacon.
O-pen your eyes to warmth,
N-o more vile weather;
E-nding the chill of rain,
R-ugged wind is
O-ver.

R-ugged weather waves farewell,
O-ne warm day is welcomed;
N-ight cold chill passes by,
N-ew dawn's wind is calm.
I-solated rain showers stay away from the view;
E-vening shadows disappear into the dark, gray, and blue.
P-ink skyline up above
I-s sharing the white cloud;
E-ach ray from the beacon
D-oes shine feeling proud.
A-pril fifteenth Saturday, don't throw in the towel;
D-efend the faith at all times, rugged weather waves farewell.
