I am the voice of your conscience
You would bury my memory
Erase me from your history books
But I refuse to go away, I refuse to die
Here I am today, thousands of years after
you would have buried me in Modi’in…
in Jerusalem… at the tip of Mohammed’s sword…
in Torquemada’s Spain… in Luther's ‘Reformation’
In your swarming Eastern and Western European ghettos
in Czarist Russia, in Stalin’s USSR, in Hitler’s Third Reich
in Poland, Lithuania, Egypt, Syria Lebanon, in ‘Palestine’ too…
Yet I, the Jew, voice of your conscience, stand my ground
To remind you that my unshakeable love of God and my People Israel
is stronger than your visceral hatred of my redoubtable faith...
For 'Mother Russia,’ 'Nationalist China,’ 'America the Free’ will go the way
of Ancient Greece and Babylon ~ but I shall still be around…

Broken people fill the in-between spaces:
Empty eyes, heavy treads, sorrow-filled faces.
Hearts blistered, burned; to ashes reduced.
Souls devoid of light, not by Fate amused.
A mother crippled by the loss of a child –
An addict craving a fix, however mild.
An agèd pensioner, lost and alone –
A homeless beggar on the streets forlorn.
The smiling teenager contemplating suicide –
Abused bully using cruelty his pain to hide.
The woman newly become a weeping widow –
Orphan who wishes upon a transitory rainbow.
Autistic child battling for sense in everything –
Alzheimer’s patient who now knows nothing.
Can these shattered ones somehow be mended?
Is faith healing enough, if sincerely rendered?
Is there a purpose to the wreckage of lives,
Does it perchance matter who survives?
The human spirit is resilient, most indomitable –
Broken people ignore adversity; remain redoubtable!

At Last the Hurricane
David J Walker
Ill east winds
wend the wings of
the finality of
the next mouning’s
dawn
on go those chosen
to sing beyond the
redoubtable vail
hurricanes await just
beyond todays horizon
life clinging to the failure
of exceptions
the portent signs rising
and ringing the morning sky
as pliant expectations
dissolve
and resolve
into alternate and
issuable uncertainty
the embassy is met with
the melody of the monody
and the emendation of
the new reality
it is to say
day by day
Life begins
Again and is
Called today
And ends tomorrow

Life’s Upheavals
Written: By Miracle Man
9-21-2019
I’ve had both Cancer,
and Sudden Cardiac Arrest.
And after having them both,
I can readily attest.
My two worst crises,
in life they’ve been.
Cancer yanked me,
from a life of sin.
S.C.A. was likewise,
a redoubtable adversary.
Leaving things in life,
much less arbitrary.
Jesus covered my bed,
as I lay near death.
Now my vision is beyond,
drawing a final breath.
Hitting the recall button,
I see both time and place.
When Cancer stirred me,
to seek Jesus’ face.
I was living a life,
engulfed by Satan’s mire.
Cancer became the match,
that set my fields on fire.

The account of Descartes was redoubtable:
“I exist, since this thought is undoubtable.”
Mister Hume peered inside,
Said, “I see naught besides
Just my thoughts, so your logic is floutable.”

George Towne, now there was a man;
Handsome as the devil;
Strong as a bougainvillea vine.
And married to the redoubtable Fannie Towne,
Town shill, and occasional teetotaler of the dry brew!
Ol’ Fannie was oblivious to the treasure she owned;
That incredible athlete!
That insufferable charmer!
At least after 3 o’clock, on most afternoons,
She never knew,
Or cared one iota really, where her man was!
Other than the little dramas concerning the Townes,
Life in Whittier, at the turn of the 20th Century,
Was boring, I must say.
Boring as a book with no danger!
Dangerous days never arrived for me,
Nor did I ever make the acquaintance of a dangerous man.
My life’s journey indeed found intended joy,
Ecstatic joy in singing the hymns at church;
And it found surprised sadness as well,
In not surviving pneumonia at age 34.
And now, here I am, buried deep in the dark dirt,
Of shady Mt. Olive Cemetery.
But if only I had tried.
Tried to whistle, and nestle up to the big lug;
The day I saw him at Central Park,
Sitting on a bench with his prim coat and hat,
The incredibly dangerous George Towne!

Where were you
when I was down
And needed you
to lend me a hand?
Where were you
when I was weak
And needed to
lean onto you?
Where were you
when I was lonely
And needed you
to be by my side?
Where were you
when I was beset
with doubts and fears
And needed you
to comfort me?
I was ditched like
the old yard furniture;
And I promised then,
I'll be back!
Now I have come to
depend upon myself
And need you no more.
Now I stand alone --
Firm and bold,
Redoubtable,
Resolute;
Fight I have to
And fight I will.
In struggle is life,
And to hell with
lucks and chances!

Redoubtable, unparalleled
Victoria Falls displays the
power of the Zambezi River.
Carving through basalt rock
from an ancient volcano the Zambezi
deserves the awesome accolades of its
native audience - the Smoke that Thunders.
Work more trenchant still, this river
provides subsistence, protection,
and inspiration for people in six
southern African nations.
The Zambezi is rightfully called
their river of life, christened by
their hallowed, Nyami, Nyami!
