MY DEAREST MUMMY or MOMMIE
A MOTHER'S DAY POEM-FOR MY/YOUR DEAR MOTHER.
REMEMBERING ALL MOTHERS.
A TRIBUTE TO A DEAR MOTHER.
WHO IS A/YOUR MOTHER?
YOUR/MY TEACHER, AND YET MY BEST FRIEND.
If she is alive, let her know
That You care immensely and totally.
And that when she's gone she will be profusely missed.
Dedicate to her a nice love song,
I can recommend- Wind beneath my wing by
Bette Midler or Lou Rawls or Roger Whittaker.
Mine is dead now...but I wish she was still here
To celebrate Mother's Day with her loving son.
I'll Take her old clock and a fake cake by her grave with me.
And a daffodil or two, I am the child she loved.
I will genuflect at her grave.
I will go in the afternoon and stay till I feel
The frenzy in the beckoning call of the unfriendly cold evening dew
Warning me that it is about time to go
To leave and wander on my journey homeward
And to ponder upon sweet green thoughts of her memories
And celebrate her wondrous life and dedication,
Celebrate another soft kissing anniversary of Mother's Day.
We Used to call her Maa.
But deep inside we recognised that she would always be a star.

He was born in Chicago in 1933,
and became one of the best acts anyone could see.
In the fifties, with the “Teenage Kings of Harmony”,
with classmate Sam Cooke, he gained great popularity.
He joined “The Pilgrim Travelers” after the army.
In a South car crash, he was a near fatality.
It took more than a year to regain his memory.
Lou Rawls became popular with his deep velvet voice.
His more than seventy albums with hit songs were choice.
He made his mark in the sixties with a recording
that went to number one called “Love is a Hurting Thing”.
“Lady Love”, You’ll Never Find Another Love Like Mine,”
and “Natural Man” were his biggest hit songs so fine.
Lou became great with raising funds for some charities
that would help black colleges and universities.
This was a man who achieved so much during his day.
In January 2006, he passed away.

with his great big hit “Love is a Hurting Thing”
Another great soul hit I recall
was performed by Joe Tex titled “Skinny Legs and All”
A dynamic duo was Sam and Dave.
“Hold On, I’m Coming” was drawing the rave.
Two songs that went up Billboard’s charts far,
were “War” and “Twenty-five Miles” by Edwin Starr.
One more song I found quite sublime
was the late Billy Stewart’s hit “Summertime”.
The late James Brown could produce a great sound.
Everybody was jumping when “The Godfather” was in town.
I know there are some other goodies I have missed.
Great soul artists are just too numerous to list.
Where I’m From…..
I am from bar-b-ques and live family feuds.
Walks to down town Paterson laughing at women and men who allow their selves to be called
hoes and prostitutes.
Fast behind little girls and quick to call their selves thugs little boys.
A really excited family is where I’m from.
I am from let your voice be heard.
It’s okay to get picked on sometimes in school while you’re being called a jerk or a nerd.
But would that person allow him/her best friend feelings to get hurt.
I am from growing up listening to old folk’s music,
Such as Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin, Lou Rawls, Donny Hathaway, Otis Redding, & Teddy
Pendergrass.

Two stepping in my grand parent’s back yard.
I am from a mixed family.
Some who are Muslims and some who are Christians.
Some who are really big hearted and the others who are selfish.
Nice caring and the others who are rude hypocrites.
Some vegans, vegetarians, & meat lovers.
This is where I’m from and I love it.
