We’re just being ourselves
We’re not presenting ourselves
on a plate, commodifying ourselves.
We’re refined and pared-back—plain
but with an intriguing complexity.
We’re simple and indestructible,
our diasporic styles, assembled in a frenzy
by spontaneous instinct, need no audience.
You’ll find us in the coffee shops, the libraries
streaming and scrollin’ to unheard, noise-cancelled, beats
or in the bars kickin’—let the music play—I can’t talk much about it.
We’re not overly thought-out, sure, we ruminate, but then we’re
automatic rather than laboured, creative without overthinking.
We’re emotional and immediate, but clearly avoiding
slightly scurrilous condom entanglements—yeah
—there are reasons. true, true, true, true true.

A poem is a presentation
of words to create an image
or render a valued thought.
A poem can be read silently,
it can be heard dramatically
or musically- by an audience.
It is edited and rehearsed-
as a theatrical mini-drama
to entertain or advise- which
the poet masterly directs.
Therefore, poetry is theater.
Theater presents happy, sad-
the good or the bad-
the wrongs and rights-
layered with opinions.
The poet and a cast of words,
often present them all.
This- is the poet's duty.
This is the poet's purpose,
and- this is the poet's joy!

In Presenting The Faintest Of Echoes Of Me
Sleep beneath towering white cliffs of life sublime
waiting with bated breath for each rewarding dawn
is it not so, that happiness yields not to time
or that truth can never be defeated by brawn
Does not mystery hide within such silent trails
as delicious life and great surprise lay in wait
for is not Love's gifts what sweet discovery spells
and true rejoicing certain at paradise gates
Wake unto swirling echoes from soft blowing breeze
rise to greet welcoming day as if a great friend
let opportunity cajole, and pleasures tease
for life holds many gifts, that which future portends
In presenting the faintest of echoes of me
I am a mirage, rock, fallen flower- a tree.

The Supreme head's power
Enlarging and expanding
from various dimensions
in all directions within the whole total shape
presenting Himself everywhere there in
unknown but can be known
with the magic of true love only

Presenting* my life to God, grateful for His endowed usefulness
I praise Him for His glory along His name’s greatness
While testifying about His loving kindness
Showing my redemption’s joyfulness.
Offering my all to the Lord, blessed by His gracious provision
I thank Him for His care, compassion, and satisfaction
While sharing Gospel’s assurance of salvation
Pointing the way to heaven’s mansion.
*Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

Inside our parents’ bedroom by the door,
our sister Jenny played the old piano.
From all of us a melody would soar
in varying degrees of voice soprano.
A high soprano Jennifer would sing
as pretty Melanie would sing along.
The house with lovely harmony would ring
when I and Dori “seconded” the song.
For church we’d often render “Silent Night.”
Our tiny congregation made such fuss
as if we were four angels in their sight,
and Mom would fairly swoon with pride for us.
Of whims that took no flight I am lamenting;
Mom’s dream, “The Miller Girls . . . now presenting!”

I was born to be loved and to return love,
love was placed in my heart by Him, above;
instructed to use it every awakening day,
love everyone you see at work and at play;
give your love freely to all that you meet,
be charming and friendly with all you greet;
then He bestowed upon you romantic love,
the stingy kind that you are protective of;
a bonding love you must take every care,
with only one other you're allowed to share;
this is the love that is so great and so pure,
from all of life's ailments it is the real cure;
this is the special love so rare and so true,
I've waited many years to present it to you.
