Double time hits for the ceiling —
The clouds of white smoke, the healing
Childhood in my skin finally relaxes
Everyone around me in lapses
Coffee forms the swollen cheeks
With history's pick of bean
Water remembers
Water pushed under embers
The percolator
Like some wound drips her.
Eyes on the preppy barista —
Maybe we both see in similar vistas
She writes down my choice of expresso's dark
God, if ~her youth~ could start my heart.
A cup with fingers locked for style,
The young woman plays in the mud awhile.

Disco Music
Strobe light looks like moon-sun.
Halo lights of red, blue, yellow, green.
He wears classic Saturday Night Fever white.
She has a white flower in her hair,
head and hips swivel;
one-strapped red dress.
He points with hands over head.
Ballroom floor bittersweet-blue.
Celebration of disco music.
I was dressed in strapless purple.
Burned my bra.
This stamp doesn’t nearly catch
the falderal - not the nasal and falsetto
of the Bee Gees, nor the confident swagger
of Tony Manero. I will survive, my motto.
The couple on this stamp look too happy,
too peppy, maybe preppy, almost ‘50’s.
I remember the crowds, the loudness,
the vulnerability, the period; that Mom
had me ask Dad for money to go.
They let me. Strobe light shadows
of chiaroscuro amidst flashy night.
The stamp is too clean cut.

The ones who are preppy seldom seem peppy
They appear alone and aloof, if they smile it’s a goof
They dress in dull clothes, stick out their straight nose
Put on snobbish airs, I’d rather spend time with bears

The pretty red hair girl
at the Houston Station
gave me heart palpitation,
but she got all my revered admiration...
because she resembled a Barbie doll;
and I became so emotional!
Across the platform
two green eyes smiled;
was it fate or coincidence?
I turned into a maniac without a norm,
or control, I waved at her twice
and spoke too loud;
I didn't notice the skinny cop named Bob
had a look not so preppy,
he surely was kind of creepy
and said, " Stand still, show me your id! "
I froze trying to find
an excuse to avoid
a summons for harassment or disturbance,
" Ok, Fred...you told me the truth, I assume!"
The red hair girl at the Houston Station
could have gotten me in serious trouble,
I slickly got out of it
with a silly lie bursting a big bubble;
sadly, I lost a good chance
at an unexpected romance!
Every afternoon I stand at the exact spot
waiting for her apparition,
not trusting my admonition...
feeling the intense pain of a deluded heart!
Without a hint of her name,
there's little I can do;
will we meet again
at the Houston Station?
Neither of us is to blame,
we'll be feeling so blue!

We watched the them tiptoe around each other
On a sandy beach in Florida during a June moon
He was handsome, tall but not lanky, built right.
She was dainty, petite and she moved like a ballerina.
I am her friend, so I was not doing cartwheels.
There was something about him that felt sad.
I am always a bit shy of the injured puppy types.
She did not see it, he became “the one” in her mind.
His friends were not excited about her.
She is not from their preppy side of the world.
Was she a gold digger? Would she pull him down?
A spring break romance, none of us expected longevity.
We were all wrong. They have been married forty-eight years.
They have six children and seventeen grandchildren.
All because two teenagers began tiptoeing around each other
on a sandy beach in Florida during a June moon.

"Beauty & The Beast"....
Our different up bringing, the social status says hell no,
the body chemistry, the man in me says yes yo,
it's fo'sho, I've caught her vapors and me she's feelin',
the negative whispers, plus about her parent situation, they be illin',
opposites do attract, on those facts we should be chillin ',
so tell your parents to off, ya'ridin' wit da villain,
she said, "fo'realin", if you want me, the gangsterism has to cease,
she's a square trying call shots, storytellin' beauty & the beast,
with the pen I release, flowin the truth from a troubled youth,
beauty was the only thing good and pure, could I pull off the coup,
not being in the preppy loop, keepin' it thuggy, rough & rugged,
on the down low the thugness makes her hot, danger she dug it,
we get hugged up, it's so ed up that we gotta hide and sneak,
It's a sexy sensual manifestation, when your making love on the creep,
thinkin' of her on money moves, makes my concentration weak,
I always hit my peak with her, storytelling beauty & the beast....

With each breath their love grew a love like no other;
the world seem to vanish when they were together.
She's charming and quick-witted, working class student,
a passion love for music, caring, and prudent.
He's a "preppy jock ", heir to family fortune.
She became his wife without his father's support.
Dealing with life struggles, wanting a family,
her struggle with knowledge she was dying quickly.
On her dying bed her wish was to be embraced,
she told him she had no regrets, she had been graced.
With the love they had shared as she took her last breath.
Aware it was imminent she did not fear death.
His father arrived too late, and said, "I'm sorry."
His son's response,
"Love, Love means never having to say you're sorry."
He looked down into her face, no matter how hard
he stares, she didn't move, his essence and body marred.
He found a woman he loved, truly loved, and she
has been taken from him, never again to be.
A tear rolled down his check while watching the sky chant
alive with color of lavender to vibrant,
pink, lustrous orange as the sun descends into
the skyline, vanishing into the deepest hue.

A mundane life
requires sophistication:
I'm a bit rural.
Preppy clothes are worn
only on certain events:
they change my image.
World, I am a soul
not seeking immense fortunes:
vanity isn't mine.

Eighty Thousand Dollar Post
A former headmaster at a way preppy school
Was fired for age and he thought it cruel
So he sued and they settled
Said we’re sorry we meddled
Keep quiet about it the rule
No discloser they all did agree
In the terms of the settlement plea
If anyone squealed
The money’s repealed
And that was how it had to be
Now the daughter of he who had won
Was sent off to Europe for fun
But what she did next
Left the school quite perplexed
And back to the court on the run
She went on to Facebook to brag
Ignoring the court ordered gag
When she let it slip
What had paid for the trip
The school quickly threw a red flag
They might have ignored the short boast
Except for her words bottommost
The words they said struck it
When she said they could “suck it”
And with that the payoff was toast
The court said the settlement’s breached
The father when last he was reached
Said I lost eighty grand
Her Facebook’s been banned
And oh how that little girl screeched

they said i had no home,
since i acted "bad to the bone",
all dressed in black,
punked back.
Is it a crime,
to like something of mine?
they wanted me to be pretty,
they wanted me to be preppy,
i said I'm not a girly girl,
its just a bore,
to talk all smack,
but never fight back!
i feel so dull,
just talking 'bout this bull

Glory ran in my head
I was soon to take the lead
Made into the Queen
The one to rule behind the screen
Was suddenly thrust into the light
The limelight shining so bright
My seat was there, so shiny
It all made me so preppy
As I climed the stairs
I was all in tears
A lifetime of repairs
Rang in my own ears
When I froze, so stony
The announcer said sorry
A mistake it was, his own
My name thrown on the back lawn
I watched, as my seat was taken
By my contestant, so gladdened
No more to be the Queen
I was sure to turn mean!

Handsome as hot dudes,
turning on those beautiful ladies...
whispering sweet secrets;
I have all of Romeo's charms
in these sexy eyes!
Why do I love so many,
instead of just one?
I am bound to have much fun!
Have you seen my preppy clothes?
What about my dry hair?
It needs more conditioner!
This tuxedo, not well-ironed,
doesn't it match my shiny shoes!
Me...getting married?
Take my bride on honey moon?
Never, crying fool!
On the beach with elegant shades,
they spoil me with kisses;
I'm the sheik of my harem,
anything I desire...
with the sign of a command!
Beauties so sensual,
don't ever let me grow old...
enjoy Romeo's charms!
