Marked 'Fragile, Handle with Care'
a preemie wrapped in tender affection
Tiny fingers, tiny toes; a wisp of a nose
in the midst of her pale pink complexion
Gentle and delicate her handlers will be
knowing one slip can be fatal
Should not every delivery be treated this way
~ pre, neo and post-natal
My heart is torn
Since you've been born
Itll be ok little one
You'll get through this fight, itll be all over and soon done
Have your moms characteristics and, dads determination
Have Angel's hoovering above in formation
Have support, you'll never be lonely
Sleep my baby
Relax, itll be ok little one
It's a bump in the beginning road, wont last long
use your strength that you've shown
In my womb, whilst making me groan
Itll be okay
You'll get through this as any other day
Believe in yourself as I do and you'll get far
You can prosper anything whether small or bigger then you are
Take heed to my voice, my guidance as I rub your chin so slowly, rocking you so softly, holding you so dearly
Keep note this moment we share as I because, this is key
A key to our true beginnings once free
Itll be okay little one
Mommy loves you a ton
Trust me as I do in you it wont be long
Till you can come home to where you belong
Born 12/10/2019
20 days earlier then expected
5lbs 9oz, 19in long
Healthy, not labeled as a preemie
Has a heart defect, NICU
As a baby I arrived sweetly, a peanut of a preemie
Winning the struggle for survival the first years of life
My mama was loving and tried hard to be a good wife
At five we ran away down south to live by the sea
She instilled the love of travel deeply inside of me, while
Teaching, encouraging and corralling a willful independence
Road trips and picnics; A simple life feels grateful abundance
I thank you for my integrity, faith of self and lovely smile
From student, fisherman, businesswoman to the artist I am
As provider, lover, friend, sister and aunt ~ I’m not much glam

Wolf sneaks up on finch. Grabs her in his
canines. Osprey avenges finch. Snatches a
hare from the glade. You fool, wolf howls,
that hare meant nothing to me. Osprey
swallows last bit of meat, says, Wasn’t that
your dinner for tomorrow? Obviously, she
was something to you. Wolf and osprey
tango. Blood flies like ideas, wounded flesh
exposed. Both predators exhausted. You fight
well, osprey huffs, but I still win. Wolf glares
at bird, asks why. While we were tussling,
my brothers stole your pups.
Moral:
Avoid poppy seed bagels or they won’t let you
take your preemie home from the hospital.
Seconds, minutes, days, weeks, years
Now I just cry happy tears
Since the day that I found out
What miracles are all about
A helpless baby small and frail
Tiny lungs not being able
To help breath life into
A preemie who's precious and new
Always staying by your side
Watching tubes keep you alive
Sending prayers up every night
Never giving up the fight
That soon you'll be coming home
Breathing on your very own
Doctors, nurses, families too
Forms a group support for you
New crib, toys and teddy bears
Fill a room with no one there
Sadness turned to joy one day
When I heard the doctor say
No more tubes for little one
Months of treatment finally done
Now your home where you belong
Being healthy--- staying strong
Playing, crawling, having laughs
Safe and loved from a bad past
They were babies wanting love, longing for comfort, scared yet ready for the world.
Instead they were born just to tiny. They couldn't survive they were born now just
fighting for there lives.
There were oxygen tubes and feeding tubes; IVs in there tiny veins that was all anyone
could see no one saw the tiny hope beating in there chest. No one understood that the
preemie could understand more than just the pain and suffering that was all around it
But they understood. They understood a world they were curious about that someone was
fighting to save there life
They understood there was a mother and father never leaving there side The preemie
understood much more in a world were they were thought to have understood nothing at all.

Pray for those who cry in the night
as well as those who turn wrong into right
Pray for the child who must sleep with fright
" Lord have mercy"
Look after the soldier who feels all alone
Pray for the child who likes to throw stones
look out for the preemie until she is grown
" Lord have mercy"
Look after the sailors lost in the storms
comfort the widow alone as she mourns
heal the couple whose relationships torn
" Lord have mercy"
Lord grant peace to nations of the world
Pray for no more burning of flags unfurled
Pray for the indignant for the words that they hurl
" Lord have mercy"
Lord pray for my family in heaven with you
And look out for the family here with me too
Pray for all sinners for they know not what they do
" Lord have mercy"
