The prairies stretch, the prairies team,
their vastness like a painted dream;
the prairies flush, the prairies grow,
fat cattle wander too and fro;
the prairies plant, the prairies seed,
with rows of wheat, and corn, and feed;
the prairies dip, the prairies roll,
winter winds bring howling cold;
the prairies grand, the prairies last,
brown bison still feed on the grass;
the prairies earth, the prairies loam,
small prairie dogs make tunnel homes;
the prairies wind, the prairies storm,
here swirling twisters are the norm;
the prairies old, the prairies fine,
their subtle horizons sublime…

Down there where life flows
as a river to sail on,
the rich valley emerges with
its beauty to be contemplated
in all the different ways.
Huge prairies to feed mouths,
large woods to listen to
the music of the invisible ones.
Small streams of clear waters
for children to play in.
Up there in the mountains,
you can watch the valley
changing with the light.
As when we close our eyes
to look for peace.
We can see that big valley
to make us stronger inside.

Take me to the prairies
where I can see the buffaloes.
Take me to the green forests,
where I can hear the hidden wolves.
Take me to somewhere to be composing a melody.
Let me go down the river,
Let me be wild.
We listen to the Nature,
we wait for a nightingale to sing the notes at dawn.
Wait for me to be dancing
on a compass on the stage.
Be my wings, be my singer,
Be my morning back In front of the courtains,
the limelight envolving us in one,
above everything we worry about.

The Prairies Flush
David J Walker
The colors flowed from his own brush
The prairie flush in scented and sacred hues
The earth tones framed in the deepest blues
Of an unrelenting evening sky
Always changing
Nonchalantly rearranging
Always in the eye
of the artist

First time our eyes met, instantly I knew
Why red rose-buds are boasting a bloom
In fragrance of gardenia passing through
As scent of pink lilies meant only for you
Evoked conversation of romance for two.
When message of hearts blew in prairies
Words of desire carried a lyrical promise
Blowing in the winds melody of our music
Composing a song in harmony of dreams
Wooing you to declare, for you I'm falling.
I've heard about the allure you're feeling
For you speak to me as I'm daydreaming
Holding me captive, keeping me company,
Praising your name every thought's saying
It won't be long before you would own me.
Unknowingly I introduced you to my family
When in my sleep I spoke of you so fondly.
You must've heard the joy of their cheers
For I see you smiling, shedding happy tears--
As consent of your heart echoes in my ears.

Nature imbues a prairie Spring
with color's majestic splendor.
And Spring's pathway gets dappled with
purple pigments and puce pastels.
Tepid Chinooks melt mountain snows
that feed meandering rivers.
Forming long lazy loops that snake
across an emerald grassland.
A rising sun erases night
with a sense of hope and magic.
And gilding the edge of darkness,
Dawn heralds day's resurrection.
A watermelon horizon
marks the birthplace of a new day.
And pink, cotton-candy clouds float
upon a sea of vermilion.
Reminiscent of paradise,
the wildflowers are in full bloom.
As their purple petals open,
basking under indigo skies.

wheat at its finest.
long before the cut of blade
and grinding of teeth –
it sings through clear wind –
rolling waves, soft in their hush
raising old ones souls,
ingraining lifetimes
upon the wanderer’s skin –
raising hairs on necks –
recognizing sound
as it is meant to be heard –
wheat is heeded wind.
always, wheat whispers
hush…(the heart of prairie grass)
through the mouth of wind.

I stand in the center of an ocean of wheat,
shimmering from the wind like ocean waves.
The clouds, the sky, the sun, the colors of the fields
and the touch of the warm gentle breeze.
The wild flowers and trees bordering the land,
the red earth blowing with the wind.
The sound of water from nearby streams,
ease life’s burdens away in a flash.
The vast openness of distant horizons,
as the gold heads rattle with the wind.
The red-tailed hawks squawk in the sky,
the sand-hill cranes head for a pond.
The cows graze on lush green beauty,
as I stand in a field with pen in hand.
This is the beauty I am blessed with,
whether my eyes are closed or open.
