How long had it been
since his lips touched food
Hallucinations parade before him
fork and knife, wolf and lamb
His arms outstretched
chin devours the sand
throat constricted, the flame flickers
oozing blood, consumes a man
In tune with this familiar vibe, let’s wonder how it might be
Across the room our eyes will meet, a set of four
In a place setting reserved for two, captivated
Our everyday routines and thoughts will speak
Through the eyes, uninhibited, grooving in the same skin
Once upon a raging fire we’ll celebrate
The memory of that zing thing, we'll watch as it
Circles slowly into softer flames, flickering
Well-suited as old comfortable shoes
And continue enveloped in life's mystical sound
More sensible, aware of the need to be inward
Or outward at different times, we'll find pleasure
In being tired wild things, slowing down in our swings
If it breaks and cracks we’ll pledge not to notice
So, just for the sake of thinking that it might not last
Before it’s even begun, let’s just wish upon hope
Until we meet, and vow to be good to each other
In this moment, tonight
Our lives together started off rather well
So tender is your splendid heart
I hold you so close as you are so dear
We've had many adventures together
We experienced our first encounter
With love that first fine weekend
We went out to the cabins on the lake
Having nothing but a few essentials
I saw you leave the cabin to go to the lake
So I quickly went to work with my plan
I got out the old rickety table
And put together a key place setting
With a perfect red rose in the middle
I brought out our sandwiches that we made
To eat that night under the stars
I have other plans for the trip under the sky
I secretly brought some white wine
To help down the food we will eat
Plus it will calm the nerves that we will have
I called you to our first outdoor meal together
And I’ll never forget the sight before me
You almost went into tears
I treasure that moment everyday day of my life
We ate and drank a beautiful meal
Playing footsies all the while

One fork,
One spoon,
One place setting,
No room.
All gone,
Good-bye all.
No noise
No fear
No happiness
Void consumes me
Tears fall
Lonesome crawl
To no one
An empty chair
A quiet home
Place setting for one
A single bed
A studio
Singular interpretations of life
