Catch them when they're young
and shape their tiny minds
by telling them to colour
inside the lines
kids are our precious resource
nurture their dreams for the future
break them on the wheel of control
and kill the spirit destroy the soul
conditioned at an early age
they'll be at a loss
when they're told to think
outside the box
complicit in your conspiracy
avoiding confrontation
it's not a guiding hand
it's manipulation
you can't squeeze a square
peg into a round hole
they are who they
are it is what it is
can't pound a square peg
into a round pigeon hole
let them be and mind your own biz

when we would rehearse
shallow we had found our purse
things will become worse
we could comprehend
that rules will have to amend
prayers to God send
mouth started to sag
when he had been known to brag
ball would have to shag
always great to know
bad news when off big mouth blow
we had told them so
from will have to rid
attitude would be rancid
acted like a kid
when we crossed the track
we will not be coming back
had burned down our shack
when we saw his wart
lied and sold people short
could end up in court
when we saw him beg
we had looked at his each leg
one would wear a peg
once we knew a judge
after we did start to nudge
he would have to fudge
landed in hay loft
was allergic and had coughed
yet still would be soft
thought that he was cute
dumber than cake with much fruit
big mouth off would shoot
had heard latest tweet
his toes did stick out of sheet
which covered his feet

Persnickety Peg invited me to the spa
We were going to be Zen, with a relaxing ha ha
We sat in the sun, soaking up rays off the snow
She wore her sunglasses, and her face was aglow.
She barely remembered I was there with her at all.
Our masseuse was a tom who was at least half a foot tall.
She giggled and purred and stretched under his paws.
I was getting no attention, so got out my mean claws.
Persnickety Peg was all about herself, boastful of course.
I was irritated that she was her usual arrogant self in full force.
She was boastful and proud, lollygagging there in the sun.
I suddenly remembered she has never been fun.

My cousin Peg is
My cousin Peg does
My cousin Peg does not
My cousin Peg will
My cousin Peg says
My cousin Peg….
I am tired of my cousin’s other cousin, Peg.
I am glad she is on the other side of his family.
I resolve to never like her in any way no matter what.
Then I meet her.
And she is impossible to dislike.
She is pretty much perfect in every single way.
Now I am saying “My cousin’s cousin Peg…”

Come play mumbo jumbo mumblety peg,
To see who goes first, we spin a raw egg.
Come be a sport.
Free beer by the quart.
We’ll let you keep a finger and maybe a leg.

WHAT TO TEACH YOUR CHILDREN
Do not lament to your ward about
The dark cloud that blocks your sky,
Let them see it as a peg that draws you
Closer to the topmost of your victory. Never
Should you tell the tales of your tears
and angush to your child, for he is going
To see every shadows as an escape to death.
Do not show the scar of joy behind your hand
To your kid. He is going to build a wrong
Sense of every barking black dogs. Shall
He take them for monsters from the hell.
Sing your children the songs of humanity
Not the dirges of hatred that
erupt every single screeching of
the moon from mind.
Read the story of beautiful life to their ears
Let them feel the reliance breezes of the Eden
While they are alive.
Preach affection manuscript to their hearts,
and with wits of it, their hearts become more tender.
Show them the world where a sun
Radiate the lands than the one that
Burns your scalps and shrink you for sweats.
Teach them love and smile.
Teach them to have both in their lives.

Why don’t you get in the kitchen Peg and stick your head in the oven?
Peg rolls her eyes, wishing she had stayed in safety of her witch’s coven.
Al, if I put anything in the oven, it will be your head, not mine.
She said, with a sweetness that made her Chicago accent sublime.
Yes, the sparring has begun because these two are married and awake.
Kelly and Bud are not downstairs yet, couple’s snide remarks no mistake.
There is nothing healthy to eat in the kitchen maybe a bit of lemon or lime.
For to shop for groceries would take Peg away from clothes shopping time.
Al is sitting in front of the TV, his stomach growling for some kind of food.
He is thinking things about Peg, his wife, and most of these things are rude.
Their banter is hilarious to watch on TV, fun to watch, gives us a laugh.
The eighties was when rudeness on the screen was a sought after giraffe.
Here come Kelly and Bud to add more sarcastic comments to the screen.
For some reason or another, this is when mean became a lot less obscene.

I love it
When you touch me
And squeeze me really tight
You make me
Feel important
With all the warmth and light
I value
Every moment
Even if they’re brief
Getting noticed
And being chosen
Is such a huge relief
Don’t let
The skies rule you
And tell you what to do
Sitting idle
In a heap
Can be really bad for you
Don’t keep
Me in the dark
I prefer not to take a break
I’m happiest
Being out there
When integrity’s at stake
Even though
I’m weathered
Strength is my best feature
I’ve endured
Hard times before
And survived a vicious creature
But still
I’m always faithful
When I know that you are mine
I hold on tight
With all my might
To your best clothes on the line

I once knew a pirate named Meg
The poor girl had only one leg
So I carved a prosthetic
But it looked so pathetic
That everyone now calls her Peg

When Reggie was in the army
He lost a leg
His fellow soldiers
Renamed him Peg
He was extremely brave
Soon forgot the pain
Although without this limb
He would never be the same again
Jake was a friend
Peg met in the local pub
To have a game of billiards
And a bite of grub
One day when they were talking
Jake mentioned Reggies leg
He asked if Peg could kick a ball
So that they could visit the park instead
Peg agreed so off they went
To play out in the sun
Jake had an advantage over Peg
He had two strong legs
Peg only one
They started to kick the ball
Boy this was fun
Reggie's wooden leg was heavy
It made it difficult to run
But run he did and kicked the ball
It flew up in the air
Jake ran to kick it back
That's when the pair
Collided and fell
Peg landed on top of Jake
What a sight to see
Reggie's peg pierced Jake's ankle
Also twisted his knee
The two men lay on the ground
Suffering great pain
Silently both thinking
We won't play that again
Shakily they got up
Jake feeling a little wimpy
Reggie smiled ruefully
And changed Jake's name to Gimpy

It lies with it's kin in the bag they live in, collectively known as a 'float',
not quite sure why that's so but there's one thing I know
and that's they've never been near a boat.
They hustle and clatter , skins not coated in batter, in different hues, green, yellow, red,
there's a blue one, poor thing with a twisted wire spring
that's unused, I assume that he's dead.
From a hook under the stairs they will come out in pairs
although sometimes they will hunt in threes
when bedsheets they attack, or their jaws may just crack
as it fights them all off in the breeze.
If encountering a red one, for sure, you're a dead one,
it nips at your fingers and toes,
and when the timing is right it's a horrible sight on the tip of a young child's nose.
I can honestly state that they sometimes migrate
not a lot, since they always get caught,
but please take it from me, that I can guarantee on washdays you are always one short.
