One Day Summer

Great Southern,
land, down under, wintry,
Spring rain, precipitation, gloom....

Drear our days,
Until sunshine appears!
Joyous, seeking shorts, swimmer liles,

Down the beach,
Aquatic centers thrive,
Pallid limbs suntanning, right now!

One with jaundice, pallid prejudice

To those wrapped up in pitfalls of own,
E’en pretty appears pedestrian.
To him down with jaundice,
With pallid prejudice,
Even moon-white conch looks dullish wan.

Translation |20.09.2024| pitfalls, pretty, prejudice

Poet’s note: Sanskrit has thousands of verses of wisdom called Subhashhitam. He who is wrapped up in pitfalls of his own, suffers prejudice. To him even what is pretty appears pedestrian. Even a moon-white conch to him will look ashy wan. The transliteration of the Sanskrit verse follows:

Nija doshha-aavrita manasaam, ati sundaram eva bhaati viparitam |
Pashhyati pitta-upahatah  shashi-shubhram shankham api pitam ||

Clouds Conceal the Pallid Moon

Draw back the drapes of those tenebrous clouds
for my eyes desire a glimmer of the pallid moon.
Sullen shadows of night, her beauty enshrouds.
Covering her faint glow is a sin, I dare impugn.

Lustrous is her light when emerged in the night,
as pale as the alabaster skin of my love's cheek.
A pearl in the sky. Passion's flame she will ignite,
reflected across waters in an aura of mystique.

Without the moon, my soul would mourn, bereft.
Her splendor worthy of lyrics written in musical bars.
I would write a sonnet for her if my hand was deft.
Even though her hue is wan, she outshines stars.

I'll not weep for the moon while her light wanes.
I'm aware that it's just a phase, and soon will pass.
Then, comes the time when her luminance reigns
and billowed nimbus will turn aside for her. Alas!

If overcast shadows choose to darken the skies
let them do so to offer shade from the sun's heat,
but never allow them to conceal from my eyes
the trysting place where the pale moon and I meet.

Those Pallid Swifts With Wide Wings

December is approaching with gelid gusts,
soon the candid snow will spread its white blanket
and dominate the lifeless and desolate land;
nevertheless, those pallid swifts with wide wings
search for warmer places livelier and more pleasant.

Gianni and Lucy follow their flight and look sad,
no birds flying around while they build with fast hands
a fat snowman with a tomato nose and cherry eyes;
it's not what they had in mind, or saw in Winterland!

" We need a wool cap to cover his head and he'll stay warm,
if ravens come by, they'll eat the cherry and tomato and deform
his face not hearing his sobs and his tears turning to ice;
what an unhappy snowman Jerry would be without eyes and nose...
oh, if only glue could hold them in place, we would get some!"
And through the entire afternoon, they watched their snowman
ready to send away any intruders with a huge rolling pin.

Those pallid swifts with wide wings have left the hushful Whitestone*,
and proud of their work, the creators of the chubby snowman
smile and clap their hands when more snow comes down;
their dream is realized, mom rewards them with an ice cream cone!

This Night Under Pale And Pallid New Moon

In sad moonlight I mourn for thy soft hand
for your loss, is more than I can withstand
you were my all, orchard's sweet fruited bough
alone in hollow realm, this heart weeps now.

This night under pale and pallid new moon
waiting in your favorite month of June
each gust of your gentle breeze a godsend
upon this eager face, hope never ends.

Come swiftly my love, eternity calls
from its golden depths, its most loving halls
I hear your sweet voice and beg your dear touch
no other treasure bequeaths me so much
as does this fleeting hour you and I meet
with prayer, I again fall at your feet.

Pallid

My tear-swollen eyes have lost their light for
the light of mine chose to leave;
to depart from this world.

Bladed implement,
Cutting through shaving cream snow:
Fields of fresh stubble.

A Baffled Pallid

Dim hazes of your assorted gestures blissfully smother me
And I slowly grow fainter.
Being besieged by the tumultuous and handsome past
I stretch for the blinding white.
Your idea is calming and lustful with every saccharine stroke;
I do not need you—I want you.
I crave the challenge that furnishes me with colorless brilliance
However, this whiteness is omnipotent.
It is all-knowing and ever-growing to the point of no return
And I accept that I’m defenseless.
But I will not acknowledge your devious and pitiless dejection
As your colors are lies.
My tints and shades burst in ferocity and ardor that merge together
And ultimately become a bewildered solid white.

Pallid Skies

When the rain turns to small stones
Battering homes with the sour skies
Injured apples lay still on the ground
Where they fade in a cloudy puddle
And resting not to far
A black raven peering with its heavy eyes
Against a cold fall day as if he knew what I was thinking
He pecked and prodded at his wet feathers
And watched me walk past
Then raised his mighty wings to flight
Free without a thought
No thoughts of a lover waiting somewhere
No thoughts of retched pollution graying his air
Close to what he knew
Over my head my umbrella, I drew
