We all have beginnings somewhere,
a place where the soul first took root
and drew its history, fixed a compass
point, a pin in a map to mark its home.
For me it was here
where the horizon began
in a haze of mangrove trees
and broad tidal flats
and boats bellied in mud
when the sea sucked back the river
leaving its gums grinning
under a warm sun. It was here
where my ancestors landed
more than a century and a half ago.
Now manicured to prime real estate,
the tides keep to an orderly flow
within grassy banks overseen
by multi million dollar views.
The mangrove forests have gone,
the swamps sanitised to lawn.
I look across the glistening reaches
of a man made lake to where
the slow drift of sailboats scrape
the bottom of an evening sky.
All seems out of place, not home
and yet I mull as to whether
there is any other beyond this one,
beyond the little sailing boats
and the barking dog nearby.

Golden fog surrounded Cherrie in a kind of woodsy embrace
She had never seen the world this bright at six a.m. before today
A great day to walk in the oaks, she thought, but she grabbed her cloak
No wolves, however, she felt a bit like Little Red Riding Hood now
Glittering joyful orbs followed her progress down the rainbow path
A mystical feeling was in the air; an expectation of wonderfulness
She felt more alive than she usually felt, enthusiastic about today
Her birthday, where she was being overseen by her spiritual guides

a gentle peace engulfs us
overseen by toroidal heart
thought bereft, self-aware
we entwine with the whole
laying our soul therein bare
love mists graze the shore
of this feeble organic form
each hue new as it renews
that thus vibrant yet at rest
in blissful rapture we cruise

Overseen by heart, Bindu and third eye hum
a melodious song we alone can hear,
betwixt reverberations of the bliss drum,
sending us in spasms of rapture we hold dear.
There’s nothing we desire yet our soul’s on fire,
for save touch of God what is there to aspire
oh weary pilgrim, so let not vibrance dim,
breath by breath thus singing for Him a love hymn.

Wooden Heart
Over the past five years, I've overseen a team of 25 individuals, young men and boys, ensuring strict adherence to safety protocols. Some have described my approach as that of a tough boss who is meticulous in enforcing safety measures.
While a few referred to me as having a heart as cold as stone, others playfully labelled it as a "wooden heart." This led to light-hearted banter within the team, showcasing the warmth and camaraderie amidst the dedication to safety and work ethics.

Awoken before dawn by rooster call
To greet the day from my rocking chair
‘Twas the purest morning of them all
Something special filled the air
Noble gases became excited
That early morning ambient feel
The day was about to be ignited
Then the sun arose like molten steel
Bright sunflowers stood erect and proud
A plethora of colours bloomed all around
Frogs croaked happily aloud
My gentle stream, a distant sound
The throbbing buzz of dragonfly wings
Dandelion seed gliding on the breeze
An old tyre swaying where my grandchild swings
All overseen by ancient trees
What a privilege to reap such perfection
To conclude with a morning so pristine
In the waters, I saw my younger reflection
Splashing joyfully in a playful scene
After many children and plenty of days
Suddenly, I’m fading like a seasoned flower
Called by a figure beyond the summer haze
That pure morning would be my final earthly hour

A butterfly yearns to escape my heart,
But my stubbornness holds it back,
Stay inside; I won't abandon you,
On exhibit for everyone to view,
A butterfly yearns to escape my heart.
Am I doomed if I remain upright?
Do you intend to cause havoc?
I feel a fluttering sensation in my heart
Too savvy to let him out all night,
When on the brink of slumber
Stay positive. I hope you're here.
Freedom is the failure of fear
I pledge loyalty to my homeland!
Unburdened by time, raise your head
Backbreaking, blinded you to beckon,
A peek into what holds the future,
Release from the chains of slumber.
The Peacefulness of the night draws you in,
Don't mistrust stars guiding toward truth
Escape from confusion of destiny.
The winds are erratic,
Cold and sternly, the helm is grasped
Living without becoming a puppet
Where motions are overseen by,
Wires habits and figures predict
For a master of the show
to dupe them into actual mimicry.

overseen by the threefold light of Christ within
with the flaming forehead and toroidal heart
entwining with enlivened spine and head ovoid
conjoined with magnetised palms and feet
pulsating all together in a rhythm beauteous
epitomises our breath by breath sense of being

Snowflurries Swirl
Snow falls inside the glass globe:
A swimming, swirling vision
Where four youngsters pose frozen
In their run to leap to a win
For the longest sliding glide
Along an icy, country road
Where no traffic flows;
Near a row of evergreens
that do not grow;
Overseen by a pair of pinpoint specks
for the black, button eyes on
that morning’s made snowman;
And from across an ever-white yard,
In front of a tiny, stone cabin,
Stand some adults, bundled up
To guard against freezing in flying snow —
All huddled together with arms raised
And their painted mouths wide open
In mid-cheer, “Go! Go!”
So loud…So excitedly set to see
Their youngsters, who will not age,
Leap and slide into a race
That has no distance and no winner
— Over ice that does not melt…
All figured to be a vision of some
Heartwarming winter life
That will not end.

Oh Sleepless night oh Glory be
The stealth of nature burdens thee
As winter washes o'er the stones
Your cold caress doth sear my bones
An unfurled sail on straining yard
The banshee howls, its breath bites hard
Tossed from main, to fevered waters
To the open arms of Neptune's daughters
Oh sea, oh pearl oh wondrous treasure
Oh faith of mine, unmarked, unmeasured
No one I am, no one I've been
Fates overlooked, times overseen
The cold, the cold, right from the start
Pierces flesh and failing heart
Oh what of God, can he not see
My plight, my toil, oh Glory be
White horses race as noble steeds
Drawn breath from lungs no longer breathed
Your manic howls and fevered pace
Entomb my mind and ashen face
A sailor lost, as sailors must
No bed of clay, nor pillow dust
Unwatched am I from sightless bow
No comfort here will storm allow
My Cross to bear, this broken mast
Oh save me Lord, or make death fast
My cries unheard from ship nor shore
Will peal in vain, forever more!

kinder park is a meditative garden of beauty
where people go to not fall in love
to develop a kinship with self
serene park that encourages meditative silence
overseen by diligent grove of six stalwart birches
her reflective still waters give subtle hints of an azure sky
her frothy melodic moving fountains are surrounded by pansies
no idea there were this many pinks in this world
there is an ambiance of platitudes and hymns in the air
petals strewn like ribbons on both sides of this stream
as if left by the train of a bride who had an inept attendant
park glorifying deep green shadows trailing after birches

Monoku Series: General Hospital
i had a brain mri last month
as expected, they found nothing
i asked could i do my own anesthetic
doc said, "knock yourself out"
last week i went to urgent care
it felt neither urgent nor caring
they had a specialist:
her specialty is diseases of the rich
she longs to open up her own clinic
but doesn't have the patients
my doc's advice: if you're skinny, don't eat fast
if you're not, don't eat... fast!
isn't it a bit unnerving that doctors call what they do,
"practice"?
overseen on a patient's chart:
no fever or chills but spouse claims she
was very hot in bed last night

Green Grass Faerie had a mystique that paraded around
In front of her as she surveyed her grasses above ground
She arrived in April, bringing refreshments in the form of dew
Causing verdant chaos and Kentucky grasses, blue.
Green grass faerie had a pact with miss violet, unique.
They appeared together, but the flower knew to only peek
For spring is overseen and managed by Green Grass Faerie.
Who retains power until middle June, taken over by Faerie Berry.
