Unleash the Butterfly

Listen to poem:
Written: March 10, 2023 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A butterfly yearns to escape my heart, But my stubbornness holds it back, Stay inside; I won't abandon you, On exhibit for everyone to view, A butterfly yearns to escape my heart. Am I doomed if I remain upright? Do you intend to cause havoc? I feel a fluttering sensation in my heart Too savvy to let him out all night, When on the brink of slumber Stay positive. I hope you're here. Freedom is the failure of fear I pledge loyalty to my homeland! Unburdened by time, raise your head Backbreaking, blinded you to beckon, A peek into what holds the future, Release from the chains of slumber. The Peacefulness of the night draws you in, Don't mistrust stars guiding toward truth Escape from confusion of destiny. The winds are erratic, Cold and sternly, the helm is grasped Living without becoming a puppet Where motions are overseen by, Wires habits and figures predict For a master of the show to dupe them into actual mimicry.

What a strong and profound write this is dr sotto, such deep and meaningful lines throughout that really touched my soul in so many poetic ways, i love the flow of this and how you’ve written so many philosophical lines in this “ Freedom is the failure of fear I pledge loyalty to my homeland!” so very true, freedom is the failure of fear, with fear that consumes us it will be hard to attain freedom or taste the flavors of freedom. Your way of phrasing things truly is remarkable and brilliant.FAV

I like how your poem critiques the notion of living as a puppet, controlled by external forces and societal norms. The speaker rejects the idea of becoming a mere mimic, advocating for authenticity and self-determination in the face of manipulation and coercion. It is a poignant exploration of inner conflict, courage, and the pursuit of freedom

SP, You praise the value of being who we are and not going along with the crowd. It’s a framework for life to have metacognition rather than act without some reflection—at least from time to time. A butterfly is interesting…suggests no rocket to a specific goal…but rather a journey with diversions and some succumbing to the wind.

Is the butterfly a “him”, not a “her”? I like the line of not mistrusting the stars to guide toward truth escaping from confusion of destiny…here’s a poem with lots of truths to think about. Great lines!

The title of your poem captured my attention, because I love watching butterflies and find their symbolism significant. With that being said, your poem captivated me. The first line spoke to me: "A butterfly yearns to escape my heart but my stubbornness holds it back."How often my stubbornness has kept me from releasing the freedom within my heart. I also found depth and wisdom in the final lines of your poem (Living without becoming a puppet...) Keeping those words in my heart tonight..Sara
