A job defines bits of our life
Though it often causes us strife
We’ll find a new fit
If we choose to quit
And not slit our wrists with a knife

“One of these days I'm gonna fly”
When time stands still, His love saves me
“gonna see a million faces”
Blessed by the One who made me free

Don’t let go of the hand He gives,
“One of these days I'm gonna fly”
“One of these days I'm gonna ride”
Someday, I’ll know the when and why.

“I’m gonna walk the streets of gold”
When He comes, I’ll know real love
“One of these days I'm gonna fly”
He’s the light sent from God above.

“There’s No more pain and no more grief”
In the end, I’ll move through the sky
Ever alive, because He’s mine!
“One of these days I'm gonna fly”

One of These Days
David J Walker

One of these days
He would always say
Committing only to the
ethereal thought of a
different future

One of these days
	I’m gonna quit
I’m gonna walk away

From this sorry ass dirt farm
And snorted grey smoke from
His nostrils

Climbing into the cab of
The short bed Chevy truck

Driving away
leaving the
Water running
	Down the faint rows of
Young cotton

The well
	Dried for 50 years
Died in the middle of a season

One of these days
The farmers will follow
Marching past the fallow rows
Of drying crops

Catching rides with
supernal clouds of a
social season

One of These Days

One of these days
I will write you a poem
Perfectly stated
I hope you will see

Wonderful verses
of love never ending
Tender affections
for you penned by me

Melting your heart
with the words I have written
Making you smile
with each line you read

Rhyming emotions
of springtime and flowers
Sending the message
you’re all that I need

Phrases of beauty
so filled with devotion
Promised forever
in poetic ways

Something so special
you’ll never forget me
I will write that poem
one of these days

One of These Days

One of these days, when time is free
And I feel the urge come over me
I'll do the things I've always said
I'd do before I end up dead
Go places that I'd like to see

I'll shed conventionality
Live life as it was meant to be
Not fantasize, but act instead
One of these days

Pleasure will be my decree
I'll redefine normality
Adventure will lay just ahead
I'll do it all, just like I said
One of these days

One of These Days

the gates are down
wonder where she's going
cars rollin down the rail
that familiar whistle blowing

so many times
I've watched her go by
waiting for an invitation
while I sit and cry

one of these days
while these gates are down
gonna take some memories
hitch a ride
get out of this old town
