In the nineteen sixties, growing up,
ideas filled my overflowing cup.
The future then was hopeful and bright.
It took eight minutes for golden light
to shine to the earth down from the sun,
traveling through space to land upon
a boy who was one year less than ten,
who worshipped the astronaut, John Glenn.

Do you recall, old friend, you and me,
how those rays missed us, 'neath shaded tree?
We studied feats of exploration,
learning all about our proud nation,
not knowing, in our days of wonder,
that we tore native lands asunder.
The planets would be our next frontier.
We'd be like Daniel Boone, the pioneer.

My excitement grew - I knew that soon
Neil Armstrong would land upon the moon.
One day, I'd fly space age technology
and create a Martian colony.
Time flies, and how I wish I could say,
the fire of stars still burns in me today.
Once, ideas filled a child's starry eyes,
and mind, a fruitful site to colonize.

Yes, they told her
they will induce our
baby.It was the high
blood pressure,
it seems

I skipped out
of work early
at twelve. The
maternity unit was
just up the road.

She sat on a table,
legs swinging over the
edge. ‘That’s it,
no more after
this one’.

She looked shattered,
as if she’d run a
marathon. I peeked
at our new arrival, she
was fine.I left

my lunch break,
you see. She says now,
each confinement
was easy. It seemed
different at the time

that summer, Neil Armstrong made
his ‘giant leap for mankind’ we did too.

Premium MemberGoing Steady Forever

Ace the pilot could cut the Migs down fast
At an early age his future was cast
Great at navigation, and maneuvering too
What is the hold up on him asking Sue?

She has been waiting for ever so long.
They have been engaged since Neil Armstrong
They are not getting younger; their knees are bad.
“Why don’t you drop him?” Says her sister “he is kind of a cad.”

Useful Moon

It has come to my attention that the moon is capable of growing
green bananas, keeping sheep and goats, but not cows
the cattle emit too much gas.
If we send refugees there and not to Rwanda, they must be
nonsmokers; which surprised me as a packet of Camel was
found by Neil Armstrong, it was planted there by young Putin
to blame the USA.
The Palestinians refuse to settle on the moon and insist
on staying in Palestine despite the Zionist efforts to kill them.
Mind, a day might come when the Zionists have to go
to the moon and build a new Jerusalem in a moon crater.
In the meantime, IDF is tasting their skill in Gaza.

Neil Armstrong in nineteen-sixty-nine
Moonwalked on the moon, the first in line.
There have now been twelve
Humans, no elve.
Don’t you think this is mighty fine?

Horsepower
David J Walker

It occurs to me that while
Horses can run
Could they actually pull a
Rocketship past the moon
Headed to the sun?
Apollo 11, for instance,
And just for fun
Is said to have had
32 million horsepower
As if each one
Was Harnessed with leather straps
And brightly polished brass bells
And as the crowd swells
off they run
At the crack of a whip
32 million horses all at once
Leap upward up-ward with a
6 Million tun
payload
Kicking up dust
All those horses needing to
Generate 7.5 million pounds
of thrust
at liftoff, that is

Off towards the sun
Hooves pounding
Harness bells ringing and
Commander Neil Armstrong
On top cracking the whip
Singing, suns of the pioneer's songs
Headed to the moon on his
32 million Horse-drawn rocket ship.

Can you hear the voices of
Those Space Cowboys stepping lightly
As their horses
Fertilize the surface of the moon?
“Ahhhh ..Houston… We Have a problem here”
“Who is gonna clean this up?”

Moon Landing

Fifty years ago, Neil Armstrong
Walked upon on the moon,
An act unparalleled which caused
All 'round the world to swoon.

Yet memory's a funny thing,
'Cause in my brain, like glue,
More than that was John Glenn
Splashing down in 1962.

They called all classes down to watch,
On stage, on a TV;
To us, it was the most exciting
Thing we'd ever see.

It set the bar for future feats,
(But seven earth years sooner)
Yet that's the one I treasure
More than triumphs strictly lunar.

One Small Step and One Giant Leap

It has been half a century since the first moon landing.
It was a historical event that was absolutely outstanding.
The Apollo 11 landed on the moon's surface fifty years ago today.
Two astronauts walked on the moon which is over 238,000 miles away.
Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin were pioneers like Daniel Boone.
On July 20, 1969, Armstrong and Aldrin landed on the moon.
As Armstrong stepped on the moon's surface, he said "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind".
When those brave astronauts left the moon to come home, the American flag was something they left behind.
I wasn't alive in 1969 so the moon landing wasn't something that I was able to witness.
But I'm guessing that it was awesome for those who were alive, a wonderful experience.
NASA is an independent agency of the United States Federal Government.
I wish I could've seen the moon landing because it was one hell of an event.

Nerveless Neil

A man from Ohio called Neil *
Was known for his calm nerves of steel.
So when, out in space,
Darth Vader gave chase,
He said 'Cool it, guys,no big deal!'

18.07.19

* Neil Armstrong was born in Wapakoneta, Ohio and was renowned for keeping cool under pressure.
* Darth Vader for non Star Wars fans is an iconic villain

Premium MemberMoon Walk

Moon Walk

They took off from Cape Kennedy
In a gasoline filled Saturn V
They orbited round
To find some smooth ground
In the Sea of Tranquility

So Neil Armstrong bounced on the moon
Like some extraterrestrial buffoon
But he wasn’t alone
And his space suited clone
Would be bouncing around very soon

The lunar module had some locks
To make sure the capsule undocks
They'd wired a flag
So it wouldn't sag
And then they came home with some rocks

One Step Ahead

Neil Armstrong shot off to the moon
Strapped into a cosmic cocoon.
He came to renown
When one foot went down
Ahead of poor Buzz -what a boon!

But as they returned to home base,
Buzz had a big smile on his face.
For there on the sea
Of tranquility
He'd aced the first 'selfie' in space!

You Gave Them Generously

You gave them generously
Albert Einstein, generous brain to experiment
Napoleon Bonaparte, generous mouth to command
Pele generous legs to play balls and score goals
Winston Churchill generous lips of oratory
Karl Marx, generous mind to philosophize
Paul of Tarsus generous spirit to convert
Shakespeare generous fingers to write
Neil Armstrong generous courage for the moon

What about me, the Generous Giver?
Tell me what you have given me generously!
Only appetite to confuse, to hate, to lie idle!
to destroy creation, to slander, to deny truth!

You tell me to discover but the world veils
You tell me to work hard but the world blocks
Let me know, let me know, let me know!
My soul shall not rest till I know!

Of Galileo and Newton

There is in circulation a video clip on whatsapp messaging service...
About a sophisticated attempt to vouch for Galileo's take on things that fell......

The learned man, bless his departed soul, bravely postulated to widespread awe..
That barring air resistance, all objects suffer the same rate of fall...

In a vacuum, a heavy ball and a wispy feather, they take the same time to fell...
It defies the everyday reality we observe outside when things fall...

Only goes to remind us, namely you and me, we have seen it all...
We are ordinary humans, we have never wondered at all why things fall...

Until the day another fella, Newton was his name, reasoned out why the apple fell...
Sitting under a apple tree, he chose to query the reason why an apple upon his head it fell...

To this day children the world over suffer to master the spectrum of scientific knowledge. ...
That good old Galileo and Newton started the day the latter questioned why the apple fell....

Of course, if they had not been around, science as we know it would be rather tame...
And Neil Armstrong would probably be an obscure name, bereft of his moon walking fame...

A Giant Leap For Mankind

Men land on the moon,
A giant leap for mankind.

As men strived for the stars.
They forgot all their differences,
but not who they are.

On July 20, 1969,
Neil Armstrong changed everything.
He was the first man to step onto the moon.
There's no limit to what man can do.

This is not fiction,
but a historical fact.
One that would change everything,
No matter where you're at.

People put away,
their childish ways.
An pulled together,
This was a new age.
This was the time,
of the great Space Race.
