to come home to a mother,
after a long day at school,
to that greeting of love and care,
to a spotless house, and aroma
of food that she makes so well,
to her healing maternal touch,
… those bygone days,
still stay with me…

to drive home to a caring wife,
waiting alone for me at home,
for that hug and kiss, the bond,
that strengthens two souls to be one,
when thoughts and hopes merge,
her thoughts are mine
and mine she knows from before,
.. her never fading smile,
still stay with me.

to be with the bright eyed girl,
my little 5 year old,
the distance from work to home,
felt so, so far far away,
I might have raced my car,
unknown to myself,
then watched her through teenage to
her wedding.. when she left.
..my love for her, and hers for me
still stay with me.

each a mother, like another,
each a glorification of that special
creation- womanhood…
moments pass, time washes days away,
imprinted on my heart and soul,
they stay with me…
forever.

The Maiden’s Song aka The Bridal Morn translation

"The Maiden's Song" or "The Bridal Morn" is an ancient Middle English poem about a young girl, a bride, on the morning after her wedding day.

The Maiden’s Song aka The Bridal Morn
anonymous Medieval lyric
loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

The maidens came to my mother’s bower.
I had all I would, that hour.

  The bailey beareth the bell away;
The lily, the rose, the rose I lay.

Now silver is white, red is the gold;
The robes they lay in fold.

  The bailey beareth the bell away;
The lily, the rose, the rose I lay.

Still through the window shines the sun.
How should I love, yet be so young?

  The bailey beareth the bell away;
The lily, the rose, the rose I lay.

I take this to be a naughty, suggestive poem, but one that makes us feel sympathy for a young bride, quite possibly a child bride.

Premium MemberShe Found Her Mothers Box

the day before her wedding
Pandora found her mother’s loony box
there were journals about her bi-polar condition
and her suicide plans.
We were glad she kept it silently locked
did not read it on that day
or any other day,
preferring to burn it unopened
after she had been married for fifty-six years.

For love or money
  Mara told her mummy
I'll sell my soul
  for purest gold

Her mummy shivered
  What have I raised
Mum well understood
  This was no phase

Sure enough
  Wedding bells soon rang
Jewels and gems in Mara's eyes ~

My Little Bride

Forever I had groomed her for this day,
I felt as thought my heart would burst with pride,
Her dad stood there to give our girl away,
As all admired the beauty of the bride.

I allowed for just a moment to think back,
And picture her still clinging to my hand,
Those monsters always waiting to attack,
They've only changed, soon she will understand.

But for today she's happy and she glows,
She sees me quickly dash a tear away,
Her eyes are telling me how much she knows,
That I am giving so much on this day.

Now down the aisle she moves as on a cloud,
He reaches out and takes her trembling hand
I may be sad but still I feel so proud,
The emotions are so hard to understand.

A chapter closed, a new one has begun,
The page has turned and she is on her way,
But forever she will be my little one,
My little bride is lovely on her wedding day.

Walking My Daughter Down the Aisle

Wedding Day, Lake Tahoe, 2001

Walking my daughter down the aisle,
Oh how very painful that was for me.
For in all her resplendent bridal glory,
Only a lovely child I could see!

The sweet little girl jumping rope,
Or the days she played Mommy.
She was and still is, my angel child.
I got number and number with step we took.

I felt truly that my world was ending.
Then that moment, oh that moment.
That final kiss as a Mommy~~
And yes, I gave my angel child away!

Those days of Cheerios, cartoons and candy,
No more bubble baths or combing her hair.
In a split second, vanished,
Like rainbow bubbles lifted heavenward,
Into the warmth of the Lake Tahoe air.

Ciji,S Birthday

I cant believe it that it was thirty six years ago today
that you into the world you looked just like an angel
with your beautiful wings unfurled
now thirty six years later as of today
you are celebrating your birthday

Ive loved you from the very start it was nine days after your dad and i
we had exchanged our wedding vows
even in the early weeks and when exactly nine months from the day
that God placed you in my womb you was always close to my heart
it was such a big surprise
but i have never known such powerful love until you looked into my eyes

i want to say im proud of you and i love you with every fiber of my being
i wish that i could have shared your day with you
but sadly that cannot be
Ciji i'll never stop loving you because a mothers love is unconditional

Wedding Prayer

To You….both…….On Your
                               ……………………Wedding Day
As you stand together; and say “I do”
This is the day—That is all about YOU

It is yours to enjoy, as you begin your new quest.
No matter the view, North, South, East or the West.
Wishing you happiness, in everything you do
May all of it happen, just right ……..and exactly on queue.

May our Lord bless you; and keep you, both very strong
May your lives together – find you, both, …. just where you belong
Lean on each other; ……and be best of friends,
With this combination; there won’t be any loose ends

I’m sure you can do it; because you want it so much
With this in your hearts; it will be “yours’ to touch
Wrap yourselves up; and look way up above,
Because with God’s love inside you; You’ll always have love.

My prayer, for your lives together…..

Premium MemberShe Sits Alone

Emilia sits all alone and she reminisces
Of sweet romance and gentle kisses
She misses her husband; he’s away at war
Still she longs for him to be with her once more

Tears well up in her sapphire blue eyes
As she longs for his touch and she can’t disguise
The pain she feels deep down in her heart
over the many months they’ve been apart

She reads over his letters time and time again
He’s away on a mission and he can’t explain
where it is in the world that he’s been sent
But he sends his wages to pay their rent

Emilia gazes at the photos of their wedding day
and the collage she made from her scented bouquet
She still wears her blonde hair plaited upon her head
It’s the very same style she wore when they were wed

The silence is broken as their baby daughter cries
She has her mummy’s fair hair and her daddy’s blue eyes
Emilia picks up the baby from her nursery cot
and cuddles her gently, for now she’s all Emilia’s got

The Empty Wardrobe

The Empty Wardrobe

I look in the empty wardrobe
And it looks so bare
I remember all of the clothes
That used to hang in there

The coat you wore to walk the dog
And the one you wore for best
The hat you always loved to wear
I said it looked like a bird’s nest

The blouse with lace you wore for weddings
And the jacket made of tweed
The numerous scarves of many colours
How many did you need?

Your faded wedding dress
That you hoped one day I’d wear
The veil to match hung with it
And the pearl slide for your hair

The purple dress you used to wear
When you sang in the youth choir
Strands still remained on the collar
Off that faux-fur stole you used to hire

Your pleated skirts of navy blue
Were folded in a drawer
Belts of matching colours
Hung inside the door

I look in the empty wardrobe
And think of what’s no longer there
And I can still picture you
In the clothes you used to wear

Safety In Pins

Safety in pins

Her mother bestows her with a pillow
Blooming roses in azure and red
embellished with silken threads
Edged with a
A crystalline river
Making Anuket shiver

"Just stick a pin in it
whenever you worry!"
she says casually.

A worry pillow!
In a cheerful facade
How contradictory
Rose Thinks
Still better than
Biting her tongue.
She sticks the first pin IN IT.
The first flaw on the pillow's
Beautiful Facade.

She pricks the pillow
with a black safety pin
When she dreams of
Fire eating dragons

She sticks another
when her milk tooth becomes wobbly
And another dent on the lovely facade
of the pillow

She sticks another
in a bold colour
when kissing a boy

She sticks an orange
one in securing
her first job.
Attached to a signed contract

She sticks an organza one
at her wedding day attached to
a butterfly confetti.

At her baby girl's birth
She sticks a pink one
attached to a ribbon

The faded worry pillow
becomes her life story
Every safety pin a dot
for the map of her life.

A Woman Called Mother

What is there to say about a woman, who takes care of you when you are sick?
Who cries with you when you are kicked from little league?
A woman who can balance the world on her shoulders and still have time;
to take you to football practices. Mother is there.
Mother is there when you receive your first real kiss.
Mother is around when you are heartbroken when the love of your life breaks your heart.
Mother is there crying at your wedding;
Mother is around when she becomes a grandmother.
Mother is here when you need here the most.
