Today’s News Tomorrows Blues
David J Walker
Off white
Black typed
Picket fence newspapers
Stacked in racks unread
Everything said
Yesterday
Made news today
Everyone who bled
Or bruised made news
In the official records where
Only the dead are
Laid to rest in the haze of the
Obituaries details
Scattered like ashes among
The ads of mortuaries
On the next page the movies
Remind us of the lives we will
Never know
But let’s go to the show
And forget about life
Until tomorrow’s edition
Is put to bed

THE STING OF DEATH
Death why provoke us to tears?
There are lot of unfinished works
But still you pierce
What are these you have wrought?
Your unannounced visits can’t be pardoned
You lack respect for the age of victims
This is extremely disheartening
You have taking your tolls in cities
And increased graves in graveyard
Dead bodies have outnumbered Mortuaries
Lots of broken promises
Dry lands have been made Seas
From tears of successors
You have wrecked enough havoc
And now the time approaches
When your sting will no longer be felt
When our heels would not be bruised
And you would have a taste of your medicine

Embarking upon another vigilant journey, as ever searching these
Sinuous corridores in sublime: a maxim's inverted souvenir; effusions
Waterfalls be wisdom to contest this, their mortuaries enigmas....
Craven images incised within marble stones strewn amid the roguery
Of a silent night ? Rustic crossing the cold damp earth; its wilted flowers
Unto the mausoleum's seminal door: twilight's prophet speaking now in

Graveyard Argument
"Today's people are not at all cowards
"They don't fear treading graveyards
"Though' wisdom of the dead we cherish
"To fear the dead makes us all perish
"To shudder in front of the cold dead
"Is banging walls with one's soft head!"
"Your mind must be miles away so lost
"To think I must quake to see a ghost
"Would you desert a martyred Comrade
"In the battle, who to rest must be laid?
"Those that work in the cold mortuaries,
"Why are they not loath to obituaries?
"Things have changed, changed so fast:
"We baulked before, afraid to go past
"A mound where deceased lonely lay;
"Fear twisting hair in a grotesque play!
"Surely, those were prosaic days of yore
"We hearkened to as we do to folklore.

Contortions beloved china doll ballets; fallacies repertoire?!
Sublime, embarking upon another vigilant mnemonic journey
As ever searching these sinuous theatres jigzaw corridores to well find
A maxims inverted souvenir....
Effusions waterfall of wisdom to contest this mortuaries enigma!?
Discernful images incised within black marble stones strewn amid
The roguery of this grayish night; rustic, crossing the cold damp earth
With its wilted flowers unto the mausoleums preemptive seminal door....
Twilights prophet speaking now in summations scarlet rhymes?!
To wrest the breath from abymals reaching grasp that it may surely die; dissolve
Into a thousand broken pieces to be crushed aneath, vice versas impasse ~

STAYING ALIVE III
reluctant to sleep
your days going by so fast
obituaries?
many friends have seen their last
oh god those mortuaries!
must watch one’s diet
if it tastes good don’t try it
bland to the taste
sweet things are seldom healthy
each day you measure your waist
obesity fear
daily on television
“our very worst year”
diet a hard decision
choice to live a few more years

Carousels and merry-go-rounds of beyond days
Captured and punished us because of selfish ways
Made projects of and dissected our lives
Raping women and beating children and wives
One-thousand knives cut deep into the heart
Always around and running our lives from the start
Murderous monsters are on the prowl --- loose day by day
Murdered and violated in every single possible way
Mobsters and gangsters take control of our streets
So many people gathered around mortuaries --- they weep
Why has all this evil flowed through our graced lands?
Why are there glass and razorblades littering our sands?
Babies without family and infants without a name
Who is all but ourselves for all this sin and shame?
The Devil and his minions infect the world we live
He has our souls and lives --- what else can we give?
How do you counter an attack from the other side?
How can we tell what's the truth and what's been lied?
I guess that deep within your heart of hearts the answer is
Finding the right religion is the answer and the quiz

What do wars do, really,
Except fill coffins
And long strong black cars.
The dead are their business,
Laying up death for rainy nights,
While in store houses stink
Of stories cut short at the slabs -
Stack up like crates;
Pushing to be going.
And yet these neatly packaged lives,
So tight with memories,
We trade off
For bigger arms that harm the sky.
Exhausted, the sky screeches
As bullies pummle the earth like jack hammers.
Outside the over crowded mortuaries fill up
New crisp coffins creep by
Long strong black cars.
