New Holiday

To have a holiday named for you,
you must be greatest we ever knew.
You must be the bestest of the best - 
one who eclipses all the rest.
Some say, when all is said and done,
no one beats George Washington.
Others lift their voices in praise to sing
of the Reverend Martin Luther King.

But who's the best at running

Mondo Duplantis

Greg Duplantis finished fifth in the Olympic trial,
But this pole vaulter would not accept that cruel denial.  
He hatched an elaborate plan which was just his style. 
He hailed heptathlon's Helena Hedlund with a smile. 

His plan to make a vaulter was more than a fantasy, 
Like the fabled fairy tale land of Atlantis.

his belle had
also blinded

correctly
her lips or

slip

said mercy
instead of
merci

he took to
heart and

her

she was still
dead but no
matter be
for she and

to no degree
romantically
they would be
found and
bound

together

turned
dust to
dust

If you face great peril, here's what you should do..
Yell out in a loud voice, "Please help me Mondo Blue!"

A Mondo Gory Poem

Faces of Gore (1999) is a mondo shockumentary video that depicts graphic footage of
bloody, mangled bodies which guides viewers through explicit scenes depicting a variety of
ways to die and violent acts. I wanted to try my hand at Mondo genre poetry. I promise you
I’m not a nut case. I’m just a highly imaginative poet.
