New Holiday

To have a holiday named for you, you must be greatest we ever knew. You must be the bestest of the best - one who eclipses all the rest. Some say, when all is said and done, no one beats George Washington. Others lift their voices in praise to sing of the Reverend Martin Luther King. But who's the best at running at a hole, and jabbing in it a long pole, and sailing high up into the air, and clearing a bar with room to spare? All I'm really trying to say, is Happy Mondo Duplantis Day.

Congratulations on retirement. I am also retired. Truly a blessing. I pole-vaulted in junior high and somehow, I got into writing ridiculously silly poems about Armand Duplantis, the pole-vaulting star. We don't have a holiday for him, but we can always use now holidays, right?

Ha ha. I know Mondo means world. Is duPlantis a candidate for 2024? There are so many holidays that many overlap.

Oh, does it? I didn't realize that's what Mondo means. He's only 24, so he should be back in Los Angeles in 2028. I live in the L.A. area, so maybe I'll see him! I went to the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles, and my dad went to the 1932 Olympics here.
