Endurance

Ahead a trail that stretches with his finish line unseen,
at the start he ponders what this one will mean,
this obstacle will be like no other he thought,
an obstacle different than everything he's fought,
cool crisp morning air fills his lung,
pistol raises, the starting chime has rung,
months of discipline has lead him here,
even the thought of loss isnt severe,
content the journey was the path to the start,
this trail, this obstacle will be the final part,
cloud of orange dust left at the beginning,
a pack of runners begins thinning,
weaving through Utah's canyon,
traverse to reveal the true champion,
his stride and breathing has reached the maximus,
by endurance we conquer - Fortitudine Vincimus,
ahead the finish line still unseen,
but now he knows what this will all mean.

For my good friend Matt, Ultra marathon runner. May you let no obstacles get in way of your mission!

Premium MemberCourage of the Heart

   How does a Wallenda fly on a trapeze
     How does ‘Houdini’ escape with such ease

   How does a warrior rise from his sickbed
     Is it courage of the heart or that of the head

   How does a marathon runner persist
     in howling pain from a severe ankle twist

   How does a fireman jump from six stories high
     brush off debris and say, ‘Nothing’s awry’

   Is it courage of the heart or that of the head ~
     or perhaps heaven's hand overspread

Premium MemberA Special Marathon Runner

Last night, I awoke drenched in a cold sweat..

At the finish line, a lei placed around my neck.

The cameras clicked, oh, how the crowd roared!

The joy, rumbled to be once again, adored!

I had ran hill and dale, to be at the top.

Tired of wheelchairs, this just had to, stop.

The winds of the Pacific, cooled my brow.

The past was dead, the time to live was now!

Out of Time

The stoppage nowhere
Time is marathon runner
Timeout love seeks lust
Raining of the outside heart
Never can quench its fierce thirst

Premium MemberFor the Dreamer

Lava thoughts stream from my internal computer.
Some days she rests with no gumption;
today a seething volcanic monstrosity.
Muse has kicked into overdrive; she will have her feast.

Over worked, I am drained like a marathon runner.
Quivering and shaking; muse belches dream schemes.
Too many to count the numbers; on and on she plunders.
Mind can’t stop the flashing phantasmagorical imagery.

Why does she deny my needs?
The brutal taskmaster blows her top.
Again and again I plead; she just will not cease.

Dreams rise and fall; I can only save one.
Oh how I long for sleep, when her rant is finally done.

Mind - Words - Hearts

Marathon Runner:-
miles and miles I stroll
without an inch of tiredness -
distant runner mind.

Magic of Words:-
evil words uttered
with vigour of voice die out -
good softly blaze forth.

Display of Hearts:-
fiery form of Sun
and fools' vanity utter -
both displaying hearts.

Premium MemberCheesy Feet

A marathon runner called Peter
His shoes had a terrible fetor
It lingered in the breeze
smelling just like stale cheese
and got worse when he sat by a heater!

Power House

My grandfather is wise
He found me resting
under a tree, legs in the air
thinking not with flavor
but with pain of pains eating
flesh and bones of my life

“I know your case”, he told me
“Come eat these roots daily,
The roots of Mulondo*
are the power house of life
Any hill you cannot climb
tree you can’t reach the top
you will reach there gladly
The birds that laugh at you
will leave branches of trees
down they will kneel for you
and sing beautiful melodies
in praise of your name
conqueror of the hills
the marathon runner, champion
will be your nicknames
and golden medal of leaves
you will wear for ages”.

(Mulondo is a herbal medicine
for men who can't climb hills in my homeland)

Night Comes

Night Comes

Night comes, the dark cloak that has swirled
In the winds of living fleetingly hiding the light,
Now drapes the bed on which you lie.
You lived more than the year you foretold;
Tenacity, obstinacy, lust for life, all holding
You together, sharp witted to the end.
But the strength of the marathon runner,
The determination to build high above
A spare childhood in impoverished times
All fade, withering as a leaf starved of water
In winter’s cold grasp.
Now only memories remain, fragments of
A life lived well, shining candles of
Admiration, respect, someone to aspire to be.

Richard Whitehead

Richard Whitehead is really a marathon runner,
But when he wanted to compete in the stunner,
In the London Marathon in 2012, he found battle,
So had to turn to para sprinting with his bottle.

So in the Paralympics of London city in 2012,
He ran in the T42 category, the 200m stealth,
When he seemed behind until the very end,
Until he won in 24.38secs round the bend.

In his earlier career he competed at the 2006,
Winter Paralympics in Turin when he did mix,
With the ice sledge hockey players dexterous,
Without his prosthetics, and he was ambitious.

Whitehead is the first ever appointed patron,
Of Sarcoma UK, for bone and tissue action;
He looks after PE in the borough of Gedling,
And hopes to run Britain’s length, for his bing.

Adjourned

Adjourned
I was up early had a shower and was smelling
like newly opened jar of honey.
Underwear and clean socks a must and I combed
my five strands of delicate hair.
The pacemaker did not work properly, not that
I had noticed as I`m not a marathon runner.
At the hospital, they told me the surgery was
postponed till the end of the month and to
think I had been awake all night worrying about it.
I didn`t throw a tantrum, not a good idea amongst
cardiac patients, my wife did the smiling.
There was shaking of hands with the personal
we had breakfast I glowed over my lack of grumpiness
but I didn`t tell anyone I was secretly glad I do not
like surgeons, they are secret mass murderers whose
kismet stopped them from using an axe.

My Super Hero

Deepavali night it was, the festival of light,
East to west,north to south, the whole of India was lit up and looked so bright.

Empty, dark sky on a new moon night, perhaps the moon had gone to take a nap,
From heaven as a Diwali gift,the moon came down to earth to light up my lap.

All saints Day is celebrated every year along with his birthday,
Yes,he's my offspring,the apple of my eye,my heart throbs for him when I pray,

Ardent, daredevil, optimistic, adventurous, industrious like an ant,
Nothing can stop, none can beat him, he's born to be triumphant.

Powerful and strong, multi - talented, intellectual, amazingly knowledgeable,
Amiable, jovial, innovative in ideas, tender in heart he is extremely admirable.

Unmovable as mountains to accomplish his mission, nothing for him is impossible.
Loyal to his employer, passionate about job, obstacles could never stop or hit,

Boldly he overcomes all hurdles that come his way, after all he's the Best Athlete.
A mountaineer, marathon runner, the super star of his mom.

Super human, super fighter, to you I bless,
Until this Earth remains,thousands of years you live, not even a year less.

Premium MemberHaiku Blooms

Bamboo vines swaying
Sunlit hours casting shadows;
Darkness swallows light

~~~~~~~~~
Eyelids fluttering
Fatigue closes window blinds;
Dreamy landscapes call
~~~~~~~~~

Haiku moment blooms
One transcendental fragment;
Frozen time reveals

~~~~~~~~~
Raindrops streaking lines
Lightning camera flashing;
Still life photo shot
~~~~~~~~~

Marathon runner
Forty-two kilometres;
Adrenaline rush

~~~~~~~~~
Fruit shop vendor styles
Pink watermelon smiles curl;
Ear to ear aglow
~~~~~~~~~

Old granddad neighbour
Knee surgery aftermath;
Pain loiters limping

~~~~~~~~~~
Starbucks coffee brew
Caffeine fix for blurry eyes;
Workday exfoliates
~~~~~~~~~~

Dangerous curves tempt
Fast and furious viral catch;
Insidious intent

~~~~~~~~~
Fickle fancy flings
Picture stakes a thousand words;
No birds sing today
~~~~~~~~~

Glimpse of beauty bright
Shadows evaporate fast;
Promise of new day

BOSTON MARATHON

(Dedicated to the victims of Boston’s marathon)

How many times the beast
Of malice,
With Its claws the flesh of humanity
Has apart to tear,
Before the righteous up united would
Stand
And put an end to this dreadful
Fear?
