Savior of a fallen race in our darkness shines Your grace,
Through the mire of sin and death we await Your heavenly breath.
Shepherd of our troubled hearts, Comforter as life departs,
Cling we to each promise sure there to lean as faith endures.
Wake us then with purpose each day with Your light to show the way,
Shine the hope that comforts pain, restore our joy in the midst of rain.
Shield us from the tempter’s might though our sight be dark as night,
Place our confidence in You though in weakness we are made new.
Rescue us from apathy let this plea be plain to see,
For the souls enslaved by sin never see the darkness within.
Chase away each doubt and fear let us to Your Word draw near,
Safely in Your loving arms we are freed from all that harms.
In our stead for sins You bled for our souls Your life was shed
There to be a ransom paid for our eternal atonement was made.
Lift our hearts to You in prayer let us always find You there,
Take away each spot and stain, walk with us upon the plain.

Lorie Ann kept dreaming of a little pink church.
The dreams started when she was six.
They continued until she was twelve.
Was the pink church real or imagination?
She mentioned this church to her parents several times.
They had attended lots of different churches.
She had been Baptist, Lutheran, Methodist and Disciples of Christ.
Years later Lorie Ann moved to Minnesota for a job.
She was sad and lonely, she knew no one in this state.
While speaking to her mother, her mother said “join a church.”
“I don’t know how.”
“Shop around. Go visit some.”
On Monday and Tuesday Lorie Ann prayed for guidance.
On Wednesday she drove past the pink church of her dreams.
She got out and walked around it.
A feeling of hope and peace surrounded her.
“Welcome!” the young minister said.
“You are home” an internal voice said, and she was.

There was no such thing as a perfect couple until Max and Maude.
They immediately began naming snow balls – Cherish and Claude.
Here is Cherish Maude said, as she lobbed it toward Max’s head.
Max laughed and ducked and slid away on a bright red sled.
Maude created Claude, Charlie, and Hacky Sack before he got back.
He had never met such a woman, she never gave him a bit of flack.
You are such a terrific find, he told her. I think you are my soul mate.
So, they got married in a Lutheran church at a quarter until eight.
They ended up with six children, who got seasonably round.
In the summer, of course, the family mysteriously slid underground.
They are perfect for each other spring willows and oaks would agree.
They loved the fact that they gave themselves readily to every tree.

The Woman is A Danish
And married to A Scottish
But often heard in English:
Language she speaks with relish…
But the Rather Stand-Offish:
At times slippery like Fish
Or like things one wouldn’t wish,
For example Leaf-Filled Dish
To be served Vegetarian
Or Flesh to a Barbarian…
A Thief-Catching Librarian
And Confirmed True Lutheran!

Ever heard of the beautiful Ohio?
The writer in me wants you to know -
River life has its anecdotes
My granny, a German immigrant,
mastered that river in dinghy boats
to attend a Lutheran church.
I've crossed its waves on a raft that floats.
The writer in me wants you to know -
My father conquered the Ohio
on a ferryboat two times a day.
Except... when April rains closed the floodwall.
Then his carpool drove seventy miles one way
to cross on the next nearest bridge
in not-so-nearby Owensville Bay.
The Ohio River changes its flow.
The writer in me wants you to know.
My grandpa walked it in the depth of winter's freeze;
my grandkids explore its fossils in summer's drought.
Swimming it upstream is not an easy breeze
but its muddy shores hold childhood treasure.
It's where we teens met with our main squeeze.

Grandmother Elfrieda's birthday is today,
She would be over one hundred years old.
The beautiful grandmother that helped raise us,
I remember her well.
She was the nicest grandmothers you could ever have,
Cooked and baked delicious foods for us.
Macroons and Apple Streudel,
Cooked delicious dinners for her children.
Was exceptionally talented at knitting and sewing
Knitted me a beautiful nordic sweater.
A very fashionable sailor's sweater was made,
Grandmother sewed a pleated skirt with that.
I wore that to a school dance,
What beautiful memories.
I went onto marry a sailor,
That is very romantic.
We had a Christmas wedding at our parents spacious house,
Our Lutheran church minister performed the ceremony.
Grandmother wore her long hair in an attractive bun,
She sewed her own dresses.
The kindest grandmother ever,
She brought her furniture from the old country.
We put that in our living-room,
An exquisite linen chest and a spacious table.
That provided many exquisite birthdays,
What good memories we have,
Happy Birthday grandmother,
Thank you the beautiful memories.

A hundred years of praying,
A hundred years of song,
A hundred years' faith conveying,
And all the days were long!
A hundred years of fireflies,
A hundred years of red roses,
A hundred years of marmalade skies,
And God's love engrosses!
Reverend Hegstrom then, and Pastor Gorder now,
The very first unto the last,
And also those to follow,
Present, future, past.
Baptisms, weddings and special celebrations,
Through all the fiery sunsets;
In God's house, His glorification,
And the past never forgets.
Here we now celebrate 100 years of bliss
At Augustana Lutheran Church of Hyde Park,
And we feel the thrill of His kiss,
And witness the skyward lark!

Friends from the Lutheran church got together,
We decided to hike on the Bruce Trail,
i walked with my friend Axel,
We were friends along the trail and we were completely quiet.
Traveled on the rugged terrain,
The scenery was beautiful.
He is very athletic and handsome,
i enjoyed walking very much.
His parents and my parents were good friends,
We used to visit them at their pretty house.
They had a guest house in their garden,
And had an extensive garden.
We would visit and have a delicious coffee,
Mrs. Kleer would bake a delicious cake.
There was a beautiful piano in the sitting room,
Roland would play the piano.
The hike on the Bruce Trail was twenty-five miles,
We each received a badge upon completion.
The beauty of the Canadian scenery could be seen,
You simply enjoyed being there.

My senior retirement years,
I enrolled in Art Class.
I learned to love Art,
I painted a picture of our Lutheran church .
Then my favorite holiday igls, Austria,
Was such a good memory and I painted a picture of the town.
I went onto to draw many pictures,
My favorite is the picture of the magician.
The sunflower is another favorite picture,
My children had brought me a sunflower and i thought i have to draw a picture.
I gave my relatives and friends pictures I had drawn,
They really appreciated that, my friend Robert gave me a beautiful hug and kiss when I gave him two of my pictures.
I had an Art Exhibit which I thought was exciting,
A few friends came to visit.
Now I am at Art Class and continue to love painting,
Recently I painted a picture of a Santa.
Good to have hobbies as a senior,
I dream of publishing a book with my Art.
God blesses us as seniors.
I am truly thankful each and every day

A gentlefellow and maiden intermingle
on curiosity's swing-seated rest.
Vulnerableness is compressed between them,
as if a violet's caress requested their presence.
Harmony's tones are blown through the air,
like lilac's laughter scattering
as jasmine's megaphone hums.
Music's smooth movements dance within them
as if mountainberry ice cream were sampled
from their dreams with a fairy dusting.
An artist's loaded brush paints their moment.
A starfish's bluish blush comes naturally.
Beating blood and veins overlap silently.
Regal drape twine hides a stage
where beauty's ballrooms bloom before their eyes.
Love's uncomfortable shoes
leave a pleasurable bruise as they
peruse through fields of vine-ripened grapes.
An eggplant's bloodline finds royalty's manners
are hung like Lutheran banners
in the boldest of circumstances.
A stream of jelly donut filling
lunges into their tongues at once.
Tastebuds are given amethyst's first kiss.
Like hot and cold amiss, the warmth is blissful.
A rainbow's favorite ending begins indefinitely
as a projection of the evening's sky blending.
The progeny of red and blue is born by two.

Ago I watched a woman coax
A fellow back from death.
Sand clung to the drowned
Man's shoulder, briny fluid
Dripped from clustered hair
Breath pushed lung to throat
In that moment inelastic life
Crashed back upon the dead
like a shadow tsunami
A curl of pale and bilious gas
Fumed from chimney nostrils
Solidified in black to wight
A crowd appeared though I alone
Observed that embryonic beast
Queasy, shivering afright,
I marked its flight beyond the foam
And with a sudden acumen
retrained my sights on death undone
Anon the surly imp invades
My repose, persists, cajoles
Courses as the Golden Horde
Across the spear grass steppes
Lodges of despondent darkness
Curtains drawn in masquerade
Where to the sopping man, renewed,
Removed I have no honest clue
Yet, with Lutheran conviction:
Beware the mirrored urchin clone
Loosed against our universe
Deceptive doppelganger who'd
Concuss humanity, earthbound
Sedate the benefactor faction
Throwing shade across the globe
Foment a foul and frothy chaos
Their like exists, implicit legion
Homunculi, contrary of the crowned

A woman of substance
I`m sceptical of the Dutch
One of them stole my beloved
He was a painter
Made her beautiful on canvas
And she fell in love
I wrote a poem on a torn
Piece of paper-
And I’m not a Lutheran-
Nailed it on her door
The usual stuff of the aching heart
The painter got arthritis
In his hands
Could not hold a paint brush
She sent him to nursing home
And now she smiles at me

Godly Horn Haiku
Immaterial
So be ministerial
Much better will feel.
Should associate
With God and cannot wait
To self educate.
What God does demand
Must have Bible in my hand
For life to be grand.
So why put on airs
God for us He always cares
Should keep in cross hairs.
Why fear or have fraught?
Start loving God a lot
Comfort will be brought.
Minds may need much fuel
Go to church and Sunday school
Elephant and mule.
(Makes no difference what party you belong to.)
Thought with you will share
God is here, there everywhere
More time with Him spare.
My Horn Haiku was designed for Katherine Moore
and Spiritual Writing Workshop that is sponsored
by Greater Shallotte Ministerial Association to be
held at Lutheran Church on US 17 on Saturday,
September 10th, 2016.
