Premium MemberTu Luc, Fragrance Filling the Sky

By Phan Tan Hai

Forty years like a dream—
shaking off the dust of distant roads;
a faint trace still lingers,
tea-scent deep upon the lashes.

More than sixty passing years,
books read as countless as forests;
once hearing thunder split the peaks,
the mountains broke—fragrance filled the sky.

Returning, hearing the wind breathe,
sweeping through lifetimes of ignorance;
each page of Nguyen Tho’s words
stops mid-flight, as birds listen to the sutra.

Long miles walked without weariness,
the clouds of Tu Luc still drifting;
copying sutras in mist-like lines,
fragrance steeped into the slender strokes.

— March 2017. Respectfully offered to Venerable Nguyen Tho Thich Tu Luc on the fortieth anniversary of his ordination.

Premium MemberLove Is of Fire, Love Is of Ice

Love is of fire, love is of ice,
Surely the years teach us this;
Though Fortune may ride on the dice,
Let it all end with a kiss.

Premium MemberWill I ever see my true love again?

           My love, oh my love, How do my heart ache for thee? You were the true love of my
           life when I saw darkness at the end of the tunnel; Now there is light at the end of the tunnel,
           you are nowhere to be found. Will I ever see my true love again? You're lost, but you
           can be found. My love, oh my love, How do my heart ache for thee? Now there is
           light at the end of the tunnel, you are nowhere to be found.
           Will I ever see my true love again? You're lost, but you can be found.

Premium MemberTO MY WIFE 56 YEAR ANNIVERSARY

LOVE YOUR WIFE AS YOU LOVE YOUR SELF.
I AM NOT PERFECT NEITHER DO I PRETEND
TO BE. SOMETIMES I MAKE YOU ANGER
AND SAY DUMB THINGS. BUT YOU WON’T FIND ANYONE
LIKE ME WHO LOVE YOU MORE. FOR 56 YEARS, YOU HAVE PUT UP WITH ME THROUGH STORMY WEATHER OF TIME AND GOD HAS BROUGHT US THROUGH THEM ALL.
LOVE IS NOT JUST SAYING IT, IT IS LIVING IT.
GOD THROUGH CHRIST JESUS HAS ALWAYS HAD HIS HAND ON US WHETHER WE FELT IT OR NOT.
IF I COULD GIVE YOU ANYTHING IN LIFE,
I WOULD GIVE YOU THE ABILITY TO SEE YOURSELF
THROUGH MY EYES. ONLY THEN WOULD YOU
REALIZE HOW SPECIAL YOU ARE TO ME
AND FAMILY.
LOVE ALWAYS & FOREVER.
JANUARY 20, 1970
Ephesians 5:28: "In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself."

Premium MemberHappy Anniversary

I wanted to write you a
love poem.  Then thought,
most love poems nauseatingly
lame.  Recycled beautiful,
luscious, adorably cookie-cutter all
the same. Not singular, as Hollywood
Gable and Lombard!  More like,
Hallmark~ just fill in the name.
With that in mind, I bought you
a rose, that will wither and die…
on the front seat of a new Alfa
Romeo, to continue park with me
or freely fly.  Happy Anniversary.

Premium MemberHappy Anniversary My Dear Wife

The first time that I saw your smiling face
My heart was caught and could not look away
Your laughter lit the room with gentle grace
And in that glow my soul was meant to stay
Though years have passed your joy still lights my way
And when we touch I fall as once before
Each warm embrace makes me love you even more

Premium MemberFORGOTTEN GARDENIA

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
dry ink on yellowed license—November nineteenth~ their pressed gardenia still perfumes the cedar box where Mother enfolded time. eighty-one springs fade: the cake, the vows, their laughter— dust motes tremble as my thumb traces father’s smile bleeding through the license. no ghosts haunt these walls, only the scent of camphor and one stubborn thread~ Mother’s lace unraveling from the hem of forever.
Premium MemberFrom The Beginning
Your arms make me feel safe from that first glance.
Your soul, my safe haven.
You had me at hello.
Those true colors peeking through your walls: strength, love, and devotion.
You are my yin to my yang.
You ground me.
We’ve pushed through, standing our ground through sickness and trial, yet we still hold the line for our family we’ve created.
As years pass and looks fade, I will still see the soul I fell in love with from day one.
Happy Anniversary, my love.
Premium MemberSummer Night Without Your Spouse
       When the silver moon tangoes out, with a lyrical hum,
       And my heart beats like the gentlest drum.
       Then, does my warm breathing hearspeed,
        Oh, it is then, you, just you, I so lovingly need!
        Come here, oh so close, bright, sweetheart of mine,
        Crystal Anniversary glasses of chilled, Chardonnay wine.
         It is then..that with moonlit tears do I awaken,
         The sad realization, by God, was ‘twas years ago you were taken!
Premium MemberAn Invisible Rose for Your Birthday
Yesterday was your birthday Unfortunately, that was a busy day However, I went to the garden Of my heart this beautiful morning Where I picked an invisible rose that could bring: Happiness, joy, good humor and an early spring. I shaved my beard and mustache to make your day With all my heart, I wish you a happy birthday Oh! I would like to charm you until nightfall When the rainbow is no more in the fall Toward another horizon, for another season Please accept this rose, this poem, this song. P.S. This poem is dedicated to my good friend. Copyright © August 2025 Hébert Logerie, All rights reserved. Hébert Logerie is the author of several collections of poetry.
The essence of you, is sweet life and love;
My dear angel sent from heaven above:-
It seems there is nothing I cannot do:-
Yes, your essence is sweet life and love;
My dear angel sent from heaven above:-
The light you bring into my life,
Dispels all gloom and strife:-
You promised to leave me never;
And I, to love you now, and forever:-
Hey angel, you mean the world to me:
And I shall love you throughout eternity:
       For you are the essence
       Of my life and supreme love
