mother taught me to be stoic
crying was not allowed
if you made that mistake
she would make fun of you
daddy was the friendly one
the one with the games
but he was almost never home
mother loved using the belt
she was good at putting welts on your legs
she only whipped you after she was in a frenzy
childhood should have been called hell
I never knew a different way
but I knew I was going to be a different mother
We never had paints; they were too messy
unless you consider those tiny watercolor tins – paints.
I always wanted to paint.
When I grew up I did everything differently than my mother.
My children knew I loved them, and I cartooned and painted
I never used a belt for anything but my own waist.
I taught everyone to “be yourself and play”
I am not saying either of us was right or wrong
but I am the happy one.
My uncle went to West Point Military Academy,
Was the second US citizen to be a licensed pilot,
So I thought my knowledge would help everybody,
So I became an Eagle, an American RAF pilot.
We all signed up September 1940, keenly poised,
But did not attend school at Glendale until December,
In California where we flew in formation, noised,
And did some night flying and acrobatics, I remember.
Then we went to England, a very big adventure,
You were pretty pleased with yourself, I thought,
I felt obliged to do my part in this conjecture,
And I just hoped I could do it, ‘cos I was bought.
We didn’t feel that we were serving England only,
Just everybody, it was for everybody, my piloting,
But I got much guts and courage from old Blighty,
‘Cos the British people were resilient in suffering.
They would work all day and quench fires at night,
And sleep in the London subways, not embarrassed,
And brought me breakfast if I landed with a plight,
Away from home, they’d send me back harnessed.
The first mission was pretty scary, but you’d get it,
And then you’d be proud doing what you knew,
But in the summer of 1941 we lost 9 pilots, were hit,
And I went back for another, gave the Nazi’s a cue.
I was hit, over water which I hated, was scared of,
But I tried and tried to open my canopy, couldn’t,
Until at the last when the plane was near the shove,
My friend Gussie pointed to the corner, was prudent.
So my glass covering opened and I escaped glad,
Parachuted down down into the sea to be picked up,
By a German boat, they sent me away as a man mad,
To a concentration camp, for over three years, yup.
The lack of effort
required to do
the daily tasks
expected of you
Has withered both
your mind and strength
Your life cut short
from greater length
Your struggles are
emotional
To ease, you are
devotional
Your body wastes
in atrophy
Your mind is a
catastrophe
Your time is passed
pushing buttons
On packaged foods
you are a glutton
You exercise
your tongue to speak
while your heart and limbs
are getting weak
Entertainment,
fast and loose,
around your neck
has placed a noose
Put it in
the microwave
Ensure yourself
an early grave
Healing methods
are ignored
as too much work,
while fat is stored
Your sedentary
life goes by
and now you sit
and wonder why
you are so sick
with doctor bills?
Too late you see
convenience kills

~Mirror in my pocket~
Many years ago my Nana gave to me
A little pocket mirror, and she told me I would see
“See what Nan” I asked looking deep into the smokey glass
“You will see yourself” she smiled, and called me her "lovely lass"
It is a mirror so what did she mean, yet my Nan was very wise
And looking into the mirror, I didn’t recognise my eyes
Is this a trick I asked my Nan, while looking deep into the glass?
No trick lass, just a mirror but take heed of what comes to pass.
I slipped it in my pocket, thanked her and said goodbye
On the journey home I looked into the mirror, and it made me cry
Deep into the smokey glass I peered, but nothing I could see
No reflection of myself and I wondered how that could be.
A woman then looked out of the glass, tears pooled in the saddened eyes
A face that was not my own, it was my Nan to my great surprise
She smiled and disappeared, my own reflection replaced hers there
Shocked and surprised, I replaced the mirror, with tender care.
I reached my home sixty miles away and lifted out the glass
A woman that resembled me smiled, and I wondered what had come to pass
Weeks did pass my mirror became a treasure never left behind
Because when I looked into it, it was of my Nan it did remind.
Then the day, I saw the mirror so grey and full of gloom
I peered into it knowing there was some impending doom
My Nans face appeared, and with tears she mouthed goodbye
That was the day she died, and the day the mirror cried.
The mirror, I keep close, as she did,it means so much to me
I will pass it onto my son when I think he needs to see
To the woman i loved and miss, my reflection changed slow-ly
It’s now the same one looking out, as when my Nan gave the mirror to me.
Time has passed the years have gone, my mirror is smokey grey
I’ll pass it on to my son so he can be ready for the day.
I took heed of the mirror over the years and what comes to pass
I saw that we all grow old and my Nan showed me, with a looking glass.

Beloved,
I whisper your name in the stillness of prayer,
A blessing of light through the cool evening air.
So proud of us both, for the fire we’ve walked through,
For the love that stayed steady when skies were not blue.
Your soul has awakened like stars breaking free,
A quiet rebellion of who you’re meant to be.
The struggles that visit, then fade like the rain,
Have carved you to wisdom, each tear was not vain,
But turned into treasure in God’s loving sight.
You walk now with God as His cherished delight,
Your heart wide and open, your spirit alight.
You carry yourself with a gentle command,
Soft strength in your voice, healing grace in your hand.
More radiant, more lovely than words can confess,
The girl I first saw pales beside who you are now,
A woman of purpose, of depth, of caress,
Whose kindness can calm every storm in my chest.
Your beauty runs deeper than eyes can behold,
It glows from the spirit you’ve dared to unfold.
Each scar tells a story of courage and light,
And I fall even harder for you every night.
May angels keep watch as you travel this road,
May peace be your companion, may joy overflow.
I’m endlessly grateful to witness your rise,
Forever your lover, forever surprised
By the miracle blooming in you, my dear heart,
Bound soul to soul in grace, eternally one.

Creature of the Night
Life bleed
Life bleed
Oxygen into my soul
Street sign
Reads Everyone heed
Pay the toll
Right side of sadness
Left out in the rain
Life bleed
Brothers and sisters
One life
Concern for others
Missing the girl
You can tell by my shirt
It could be night forever
I may never miss the day
Night traveled down this lonely highway
My brain aches again
Killer cats electric skies
Floating in the ark
It must be hurricane season
The hell bent South
The riding tiger
Brain of an orca whale
Oh oh oh
Sexy legs
These ones that hold us down
neon dogs
Call yourself from the otherwise
Dirty ripped shorts
Cheap Shirt and stomping shoes
Fighting ways of Klondike days
Lustre shines
People crazy
To this day
you'll be treated like royalty
Solid gold
The sick the sick the sick of it all
Tampering with the unknown without purpose
Without skill
Only armed with aim
No plan once so ever
Just keep stealing time
Sometimes watching yourself die without memory. The past
A world of errors
Other times wild and free knowing those times won't last
Luck of the real
When will all be justified
When the links get kinked
Leave me a part of space
lost in the summer fling
That started and finished in a tent
The way you play
Challenges sacrifice
Powerful and Wise
Rich to good use
Scram down the rail ties
The whistles of the trains on hazy mornings day
Pimping all that we know
I stand beside myself
Then only then
Iam not alone
When The River Was Empty
“When there is nothing left to burn, you have to set yourself on fire.”
– “Your Ex-Lover is Dead” by Stars
When the river was empty
you moved on…
I stayed
gaining nothing but age.
Tell me the day
does not equal decades
sifting through silt
and cigarette butts.
The sand proved too quick
for you to stand.
Old currents have caught me
and brought me back to our beds
through unteachable trails
where none is less travelled.
your footprints
still lead me ‘round
to when the thirst turned
back upon itself
creating
a wasting whirlpool
of what was
to be.
Why can’t time just forgive time?
And move me along instead of drowning
me in all my wrongs.
Someday the cold cold mountains (as they do)
will melt making many many drops of forgiveness
forging a small spring anew with life
reviving a renewed river,
rushing my ashes
to renewal.
Where are your words?
Who wants to know?
What should you be saying that you have forgotten to say?
What should you be saying to yourself? To revitalize yourself?
Self-deprecation does not work in your schemata.
Anxiety and fear are not your go-to places.
I consciously banish the feelings of the last three weeks.
Realizing they were induced by drugs, not reality.
Can I get back? Can I retain my enthusiasm? Can I get past this apathy?
My acceptance of my former self into my reality is all I need.
I read my words and recognize the positivity in them.
Remembering these are my words.
Not anything else’s, determined to
bring myself back
one
word
at
a
time ...
Have you ever wondered who celebrities were
Before they became who they are?
Each one attained fame just by changing his name
And became a world-renowned star.
Some of my favs I have listed below,
Some, or all, of whom you, too, may know.
None of them current, but they lit up the past,
Neither were they the first,
And they won't be the last.
I hope you'll enjoy my pseudonym game*,
