I sense your perplexed pulse
within pirouetting pearls,
steeped in sinister streaks,
while fading sparks
of dulcet stars
swing from threads of darkness
on the verge of vertigo,
living in minutes
caught in the crawling contradiction
of tainted t i m e…
O’ f r a g i l e hummingbird,
I hear the hushed hymns
hovering through the ebony haze,
awaiting unlocked gates
adorned with regal rubies,
reflecting heaven that
sings of the sacred.
For in your lonely serenade,
in bittersweet solitude,
you raise fatigued feathers
to the alluring azure,
to heed the heartbeats
of the halcyon haven,
amidst your spirit
drowning in dreariness,
soaked in sadness,
counting cursed crystals
as blessings from the essence
of this endless enigma~
d r e a m gliding in drowsiness,
drenched in midnight terrors,
flowing between technicolor tercets,
etched in obsidian tears
within the raven prose
of Edgar Allen Poe,
oblivious to the table set,
serving chalices
brimming with
moonbeams and hope,
as you’ve long tasted
toxic embers from hellfires,
in a satanic sphere that knows
not the ingredients of peace,
consumed with hate and prejudice,
perhaps prewritten
from ashes seized
from the Hades inferno,
a spring stolen from the
valleys of dancing daffodils.
So let me waltz
beyond constellations of cruelty.
It’s too late to save the world,
to color the globe in lime green
and blooming blue,
as there is no winning
when the devil sits
on a throne of fickle flowers,
where snakes slither
through the narcissistic eyes
of the emperor~
dressed in deception,
eager to rule the weak and naive
with nothing but the scorching
heat of the serpentine sunsets,
bleeding venomous verses
upon your canvas
that pleads and prays
for compassionate clemency.
I feel the rising
of the merciful moon,
embracing the wolverine warmth,
filling the emptiness between
wicked lines,
k i s s e d by the weeping wind,
as purple phrases across pastel pages,
immortalize the poetic need to
paint the world with l o v e and lilac...

In Pahalgam’s embrace, where solace bloom
Dawn’s tender hues now fade into gloom.
The innocent sleep, their laughter now stilled,
In cold, silent graves, their dreams unfulfilled.
A crown of bright jewel on our mother’s brow,
A snow-white dove, now lies crimsoned in woe.
Through mist-shrouded peaks, a wail scars the air,
Beauty and anguish entwined in dark despair.
Through shadowed pines, fiends crept in the night,
Their cruel hands drew blades on hearts pure and bright.
Guardians faltered, their watchmen grew blind,
Merciless guns left weeping remnants behind.
Unchallenged they returned, no fear in their tread,
To venomous lands where their hatred is bred.
Who carved them a path through the valley’s embrace?
Who shielded their malice, defiling this peace?
Yet free they roam, in shadows they thrive,
While graves cradle hopes that will never survive.
Young dreams, unshaped, now buried in dust.
While tears carve deep rivers through valley's crust.
Enemies sow seeds of hate, in heartless disguise,
Haters watered it to wage wars with in lines
Drown cries for justice in hollowed-out lies.
But our defenders roared fierce, their fury ablaze.
With flames of vengeance, their wrath set the stage.
They wrecked their heart, blazing their den
Yet foes, unrepentant, slipped free from the chain,
As an imposter uninvited gate crashed in disdain.
Cowards in disguise, displayed on road side stand,
Their gilded deceit seeks to spread only their brand.
In meadows where joy once danced with the breeze,
Grief whispers of wounds deep no time can appease.
Justice, a specter, haunts hills with its plea,
Pahalgam weeps still, unhealed, never free.
Till butchers lined to gallows, no redemption arise,
A valley of dreams lost to fear’s ruthless guise.
That was Then, and This is Now
In the crypt of our loves memory, we danced so free,
Our romance, a cursed flame, burned with spectral glow.
But secrets, whispers from the damned, you see,
Now haunt this desolate heart with bitter, icy woe.
Thy deceitful touch, a venomous bite, I now know,
That hath passed from then, to now.
Thy laughter once, a haunting dirge so sweet,
Our dreams of an eternal union, pure and true.
But lies now stain the sacred vows we'd greet,
And trust, like a shattered vase, lies strewn askew.
Thy beloved promises now broken, I avow,
That hath passed from then, to now.
The poison upon thy lips, the accursed kiss still stings,
Each deceitful syllable, a phantom’s scream, tears my soul.
In the pit of despair, echoes of love's anthem rings,
Now consumed by the lies that devour it whole.
Thy pleas for moral absolution, I disallow,
That hath passed from then, to now.
As the raven of betrayal seeks to amend its weary prey,
Thy sharp talons, ripping out my heart's core.
Once deemed invincible, our love, now rent in disarray,
Drifting further apart, forevermore.
No longer shall I heed thy entreaties, in sorrow we shall bow,
That hath passed from then, to now.
Memories of our cursed love, linger in the mist,
I'll forge ahead, embracing the darkness that we sow.
For in the ruins of our buried love, lost to a fateful tryst,
The price of your betrayal, in blood, I shall bestow.
Thus, that hath been us then, and this is I now!

'A Horror Poem' Contest By Funom Makama
As I walk this graveyard somber
Of a country shorn of life
Its gravestone reads, in the distance yonder
Stabbed by debt’s dagger knife
Our Founding Fathers, like demigods
Of a past enlightened age
Founded this nation, with musket rods
And writings on a page
We the people, it was writ
Must perfect a union young
With stinging wit, this daring script
Was a rock at Britain slung
A golden republic, been thrown at our feet
They challenged us to keep
From democracy’s thieves, from subtle deceit
From apathy, and ignorant sleep
Have we kept our gold? No! It was packaged and sold!
By politicians - absentee dads!
How would our Fathers feel, if they could be told
That their children lost what they had?
Our Fathers would be, trifle a doubt
A hallowed kin troubled by din
Troubled by noise, the screams and the shouts
Of a country dying from within
With ethics abandoned, a sickness has crept
A plundering, gluttonous sin
These pitiful states, with mountains of debt
Belong in no handbook of hymn
Youth, why slave for a wage
To be took by taxation’s rake?
Why seek to be caught, in misery’s cage
For worthless currency’s sake?
Prepare instead, for the coming collapse
When Liberty staggers, stumbles and hurls
This nation, struck by a venomous asp
Expires, in agonied curls
(The stage is dimly lit, with a single spotlight on the speaker, a wise and weary African leader. He stands, reflecting on his legacy)
My dear Africa, I rose like a lion, with Mandela's heart,
To guide you, to lead you, to a brighter start.
Forty years of vision, of sweat and of tears,
Progress flourished, like the Savannah's seeds, through all the years.
(He pauses, looking out at the audience)
But time passed, and power's grasp, it tightened its hold,
Like a serpent's clasp, it would not let go.
As we say, "A bird that flies off the Earth and lands on an anthill is still on the ground".
Loved ones feared to let me go,
Blinded loyalty, oft bestowing, but at what cost?
(He takes a step forward, his voice growing stronger)
Opponents distorted truth, tarnishing light with venomous spite,
But I stood firm, like Kilimanjaro's peak, shining bright.
For "when two elephants fight, it is the grass that gets hurt".
From Cairo to Cape Town, my legacy shines,
A bridge between nations, a united shrine.
(He looks down, his voice filled with regret)
But now, my staying impairs, the gains once shared,
A leader's strength becomes a test, manifest in holding on.
As the wise ones say, "Knowledge is a garden, if it isn’t cultivated, you can’t harvest it".
I molded Africa's progress, built young and old institutions,
Education, healthcare, a foundation laid, forever in store.
(He raises his eyes, his voice filled with determination)
Let history judge, accomplishments weighed,
Legacy may fade, but roots remain, progress made.
For "tomorrow belongs to people who prepare for it today".
I pray wisdom guides successors, building on my noble text,
May they find the strength to let go, to see legacy's true place.
(The spotlight fades, leaving the leader in darkness, lost in thought).
Shadow Games
While my back was turned, you slipped into the store,
Went to the washroom, then out once more.
You could’ve retraced your steps, stayed out of sight,
But you leapt the chain—made sure I’d catch the sight.
You lingered at the door, a ghostly trace,
A fading whisper with a hollow face.
What brought you here to haunt my day?
A question that simply won’t fade away.
You played your part, a fleeting flame,
Four months of warmth then cold with blame.
Your caring ways was merely a disguise,
Before you cut me down with an icy goodbye.
You turned to ink, your spite set free,
Penned your poison for all to see.
An “OLEFOWL from Penal,” you bitterly said,
Twisting words, calling me ugly instead.
You mocked my name, spoke of wood,
Called me mad—just as you would.
You whispered lies about me to my relative
using venomous word dripping with fear.
You’ll read these lines, I know you will,
Clinging to your shattered thrill.
Your fractured mind deflects your pain—
Blaming me while chaos still remains.

Big secrets, in rose tinted glass,
the grandeur of life just a mirrow view apart.
A sweet fragrance of falsehood guards the heart,
Beauty is at the price of someone's dark.
There she is, looking through the façade,
the one they called foolish, the best observer at heart.
Sitting amongst the shiniest strokes, is an abstract,
Yet such blind is world, that no one can tell it apart.
The gossips float, running faster than the chased hare,
Soon the truth disappears, announcing arrival of the dark.
She walks, followed by the hustle of winds,
The room goes quiet, as the others dissipate.
Lightening strikes, fear shivers the candle flame,
Windows crackle, welcoming the stormy rain.
Clock chimes three, and she smiles in glee,
The loner of all is often the know it all, yet no one gains.
Storm of the night follows her in pursuit,
Confident she walks, indeed it's evil in beaut.
Curious wind whispers of the magical tree,
Talks of magestic & venomous fruit it yields.
Her eyes as fierce as red wine on fire,
The sadness of wretched heart flows out her veins,
Time haults,
slowly shadows hails the devil's name.
Tremors wreck the halls,
here comes the wretched rain,
Where once the childhood danced,
now only lies remorse and pain
She walks to welcome it all,
Remorse, deceit and curses overflow,
Accepting all the yin and yang,
Soon she becomes the eye of the storm.
So we cross this threshold of war as awful friends in freefall,
and with these trumpets and drums shaking the graves
of ancient days we bring forth instruments of death's call
through our very own homeland where the music of valor plays,
songs, poems and parades are already being written in the pulse of the people,
only the names of the victors and vanquished remain unknown,
yet both will be Roman, both will bleed, and both will reveal their soul's steel,
pallisades, seige towers and ballistas of big stones thrown
from town to town, from Arminium, Corfinium and to the Bay of Brundisium
the Italians of Rome have said to the Legions of Caesar save our home
seek no throne, carry not a crown, show the world that cruelty can be outdone
scourge the vile with the virtue of Clementia, make the Senate atone,
make not widows of Rome's daughters nor orphans of the innocent
bring a heartbeat of holiness back to these halls and hills where peace has been absent,
Bring a heartbeat of holiness back to these halls and hills where peace has been absent,
you've heard these honest entreaties and endearments
from mothers and elders, citizens, priests and from the militant,
we are not men who march on dreams,
we have not marched into Greece to starve and grovel
under the ritual yoke of this pseudo Republican army
headed by an overhyped hothead acting under an upper class spell,
I believe we were born to be on this battlefield's history,
we are inspired by unequalled Evocati leadership
veterans venomous in brute brilliance,
they have a myriad of mercenaries whose cause is only for coin on the hip
they outnumber us 6 to 1 on horse and 2 to 1 in the lines
most of Pompey's Legates have learned warfare from talk and books,
we've been taught the terror of triumph from where the heart looks...
