The Prismatic Self

See the wooden stage, markers for my feet, bright lights, great expectations, critical analysis. Curtains will open any minute as my words make an entrance. Will my opening lyrics draw a crowd? Who will be in attendance? The theater’s not likely sold out.

Backstage, the sponsors, who are they? ATTENTION! As if a teacher wields a pointer, tapping at my feet. Will the audience throw erasers?

On the palm of my hand, the rules - perhaps strict, but I’m not in fear of a stickler. Trained by the nuns in love and hate knuckles.*

Lots of rules, I might have to practice the act for quite a bit longer. I practice in my dressing room, trying on outfit after outfit - those flouncy forms or something simple and succinct.

Am I a people pleaser? Do I perform at the pleasure of the King or Queen? Or am I my own worst critic?

Yes! Yes! Yes! No!

I desire to be seen but I will yield. There is something more important than being the lead. Still, I must confess, I must run back to my little box, mime my tears, dread my limitations, take a breath and when I am ready - take a bow.

At the onset, I must build my own backdrop, backstory, be vague and understood. I run my lines quickly, slowly, go over them again and again, even as I recite them freely, as a monoku or Shakespearian sonnet; or get even more elaborate.

I labor over each word, its placement, its meaning. I don’t care! I do care! I must feel it practically perfect; though I will let it go. Eventually, it will be a comedy of errors, erroneously erupting past the stage, in the rubber hands of cause and effect. The sponsor’s Marlboro ashes fall on it, without understanding my heartfelt meaning; my wings clipped as I await the list…the dreaded and dreadful list. Most surprised when I am the cream, alone - floating at the top.

**Fastbreast, blushing, aghast, euphoric. That sponsor is exact. I do not grow prideful. I do glow. The tip of the iceberg shows, all other words sunken, below. In leotards, the ships pass by, having a look - one clips itself.

*conceit
**Fastbreast - heart beating rapidly (Neologism)

Pillow Talk

hanging out amongst those who are like minded
new to the group naive to the lies and deceptions
groomed with gifts fun spotlight low expectations
time goes by everything great money had you blinded
you had the lovers fame reputation all felt so right
competitiveness between group members alike
tension becomes intolerable to the point of dislike
truth be told about how to settle with a fist fight
threats were always spewed but no action taken
group members siding causing small divisions
most tired of the tension making hasty collisions
all about money fashion lovers has caused a shaken
this one particular night you decided not to indulge
feeling not up to par your soul making you elusive
hung out as usual thinking how things can be decisive
something felt off your intuition gave you a nudge
not feeling the vibe decided to step out side for air
unbeknownst to you the tension was thickening
come back in moments later you were witnessing
an argument turned deadly body sit dead in a chair
blood that carries secrets slowly coagulate
thick dark stickiness that drew in flies
smells whilst being puddling burying lies
sitting in panic with beads of sweat from distress
wondering what to do where to go who is who
paranoid with being inexperienced about crime
this was not part of a plan to hang out this time
nobody to trust running scared sleepless night too
would they let you just walk away knowing what you seen
following you haunting you in dreams to scare you quiet
this secret causing the heart and mind to have an inner riot
telling was out of the question not even mentioning the scene
seeing members from time to times looking with evil eyes
made you reevaluate the meaning of like minded people
following popularity status spotlight really reels in sheeple
darker than you will ever admit magic deceit and lies
realizing having your own individuality avoids like mindedness
you don't have to say you endure and was scare most of the time
this experience help heal suppress parts traded for being a slime
learning things about yourself now has you with sharp sightedness

In This Garden

This place is full of wonder, full of great sites
A walk in the blissful rays of colored lights
Take me by the hand and pleasure my sensory
Tickle my nose with the smell of your fragrancy
Your tranquility calms me to a state of awe
I could look at you for days and not find any flaw
Even though mistakes can be made
The site of you makes those mistakes fade

Have you ever wondered how your soul can wander?
Bump into each other from far beyond yonder?
Did you ever see the beauty in me?
Even at my worst could you really see?
A shadow of truth, which dwells within these walls
A Utopian garden of truth, which an empty voice calls
Delving in the interior I can only be amazed
By all of the pretty things about you; my feelings are raised

Mesmerized by your being; intellectual with insight
I know that together we will only burn bright
The empty yard is now filled with dreams
Covering the persistence of my piercing screams
A hollow body has been filled
A terrible angst has been killed
And my imagination has now been thrilled
So all we can do from here is build

Still yet, I wonder as I gaze into your radiant eyes
The twists and turns are for frequent surprise
As I get to know you further for who you are
You have given me reason to believe we are up to par
Driven in ways to get the chance to make you mine
I could not give you up, for which you are particularly devine
Within my limits, for I have chose
I confess that I want you, the alluring rose

In this garden which you appease
All of our sorrows will begin to seize
Love is a feeling, it can feel like rain
The drops can be refreshing, or bring lots of pain
I know with you we can be as one
Take a walk in this garden where we won't have to run
I will always remain with you, from dusk until dawn
Just imagine someone there for you, someone who will never be gone.

Genocide

They're trying to decapitate the hood magistrates,
with fabricated reasons for treasons
It's the season that we evaluate and saturate,

All those who maneuver with a false mind,
Hood occupants are tee'd off like it's golf time,
So your game needs to be up to par
because to the jails and cemetaries
too many people have lost time,

The government is microscopic on the popular,
They possess new world order style binoculars,
They're building plantations and camps
in the form of penetentiaries
to house and be the spots for the,

Most corrupted, those abducted,
from society in a variety of flavors
because misbehavior leaves us stuck with,

A bunch of years on tiers to joint suspension,
We stay inchin' through tention,
and in this hard knock life comprehension,
we discover that we're losing
in their systematic intervention,

They know that the hypnosis from dollar bills will rule us,
In a cess pool of,
deceived individuals who tryin' to glisten like a jewelers,

Metals and precious stones,
Yes it's on,
We brave enough to test the throne,
The quest is long,
And we fight until our flesh and bones,

Dissolved into the earth
We were born to die so who's next to go,
Our lives are far from festivals,
We're surrounded by people
who perform acts that are unethical,
attempting to reach the pinnacle,

Because the hood fame will excite us,
We search for the cures to hunger-itis,
What we really need is the wisdom from the providers,

Who serves the mind food
because the government is killin' us,
They're sealin' our fate with each plate to get rid of us,
They lable us outlaws, so we turn southpaw
and fight for our rights from the left like P. Whittaker,
It's hard suvivng inside their GENOCIDAL SYLLABUS,

So before you get tossed like a javelin,
Stay sharp and keep your eyes and mind travelin'
While you're in the systematic maze
to keep your life from unravelin'.

Premium Member It Must Be Hard

It must be hard
To carry it around
That load of hate
Weighing on your heart
A powder keg
Waiting to explode
Hurting others but
Killing your own soul

You pretend it isn’t there
But now and again it shows
In what you say
In what you write
The sarcasm hidden under the sweet
The hate clothed in happy
And yet….
It’s there
For the discerning to see

It must be hard
To have it eat away at you
And not be able to voice
All those words
That are begging to be heard
Dying to hit the mark
A bull's eye victory
That brings relief

It must be hard
To keep them locked away
For fear of criticism
Of “losing face”
And yet….
They gnaw away at your being
Those sugar coated morsels of hate
For those inferior
Made of fluff
Not substantial
Not up to par
Medicore
Weak
Sniveling
Sappy
Sorry
Excuses of human beings

It must be hard
To be civil
To pretend to be kind
Thinking others are blind
To the real motives behind
Your words…..

Ah…if only you’d realize
The only one hurting
The only one who is weak
Is you
To love takes strength
To forgive takes power
To rejoice with others takes integrity
The finer qualities
To hate is easy
To love near impossible

Hate would dissipate
If you took some time to realize
The person who irks you
Who just rubs you the wrong way
Maybe has been rubbed the wrong way
As a child...
Sexually abused
Struck down by violence
Suffering from...
Emotional abuse
Sexual abuse
Verbal abuse
Physical abuse
Insecurity
Feelings of inferiority
He has hidden baggage too
Behind his false bravado
A heart that is in pain
Much like you
His brokenness plain
His tears in the rain
So no one can see

I know it must be hard
To try to change
To put away hate
But it’s not too late
To look inside
The one you despise
You just might be surprised
To see deep within
And there in his eyes
A reflection of all that comprises
the beauty of YOU!

One may say that a day filled with magic,
Might stir up something described as taboo,
And if that be the case, then we must lose,
The subject matter, ergo, must change soon,
So that we may progress and show redress,
That starts off a plain good sort of a shift.

We can start anew with all the redress,
And anticipate that will happen soon,
So that we have no more talk of taboo,
Nor of the folly of what we may lose,
Though we be at fault, show of contrition,
May suffice, and we come out like magic.

Yet, in the long run, I fear things may shift,
And we may be hanging on a thread soon,
We must make every effort not to lose,
And restore our composure like magic,
So I restate, a show of contrition,
Is paramount, and a show of redress.

We will have no more talk about taboo,
Nor we have no more talk that we may lose,
We will fight with optimistic magic,
So that we can all change back just as soon,
With a full on spirit of contrition,
And all go back towards a normal shift.

So now we must be up to par real soon,
We must remain collective and not lose,
Lest we fail and haunts us like a taboo,
And then we start to lose all that magic,
Then we have no more talk of this and shift,
Positively, a show of contrition.

Before I conclude, talk of contrition,
Remains a priority, and a shift,
In a positive direction and soon,
Will lay to rest the spirits of taboo,
And bring about an air full of magic,
Then restore our confidence not to lose.

Contrition soon bring about the magic,
and for us not to lose sight of our shift,
towards a redress with the taboo gone.

Premium Member Consider This

Consider this my due apology
For what I said, for all the words I spoke.
I was so lost, and silence was the key,
Though I knew not, and though the silence broke
My spirit, shattered there, but then I woke
To find the words I should have longed to say.
There’s no point now. I know I am a joke
To all who know what there transpired that day.

Though all my hard work vanished in that storm,
Not knowing that the cost was way too high
I charged ahead, my countenance changed form
As then I found my hard work doomed to die,
As either way they punished me, I’d fry
For all the words my shaking voice did say.
That said, was lost my agonizing cry
Because of what transpired there that day.

My cry was lost, my words fell on deaf ears,
Save for the few who knew that in my mind
This is not always how it first appears,
But if they would look deeper, they might find
That I’m not horrible. I’m mostly kind,
Though every now and then the words I say
Are spoken without thought. So I charged blind
And that is why it happened there that way.

They read the charges then, and they struck home,
The worst day of my life - at least so far -
I almost read right back to them a poem,
Yet knowing that I wasn’t up to par,
Knowing I no longer was their star,
I held my tongue. How I wish I could say
The things that I would do to raise the bar,
Apologize for what transpired that day.

Consider this long-winded narrative
A cautionary lesson to the brave
Whose courage pushes them the truth to give.
I know when not to speak; the truth I gave.
If only from my misdeeds I could save
Myself, now, there’s no price I wouldn’t pay
But now there’s nothing more than this I crave:
To learn from what transpired there that day.

I Can't Believe the Hatred
By Franklin Price
11/08/2019

I can't believe the hatred that runs rampant through this land
The supply of it astounding, far exceeding all demand
All because of politics, it's so hard to understand
It's not even natural, it's mass produced and canned

However it has happened, it's the forefront for us all
With instant access from the net, always at our beck and call
The masses now participate, all this dislike standing tall
Was love for freedom got us here, this hate will be our fall

We fought for independence, at least our founders did
Now we're the sheep who follow, who mostly go where we are bid
We've given up our freedoms, and our voices have been hid
It's time we closed Pandora's box and put back on the lid

Republicans and Democrats are not the who we are
Our government not royalty to bow to from afar
Our duty is to cast them out, when they're not up to par
The needs of We the People should be the only followed star

Don't let your independent voice add to this hate filled source
Use it, don't abuse it, to help change this nation's course
Speak to your fellow citizens, We the people are the force
To help end this harmful hatred, you must dismount from your horse

Offer your hand in friendship, begin to walk the extra mile,
Open your ears to listen, with mind open, for awhile
Think before responding, open with a sincere smile
Don't think that you know everything, there are other rank and file.

Don't be a politician, unless you are one of the few
Then listen to the people, do what they would have you do
They are the ones who put you there, and they can oust you too
Work to stop this foolish hatred, bring love and freedom back in view.

To Zaria

I hope this poem finds you well
As I am having grief
Your mother seems to only sell
My image as a thief
And so I wrote this little rhyme
So one day you will see
That all I want for you in time
Is to be truly free
Many will say that I am bad
And threw you to the wind
And this is not to make you sad
I’d say it’s to defend
My love for you will never break
My heart, it has it seems
This life is always give and take
To show you is my dream
You see, there will be many times
When PEOPLE lead you stray
But look between these mellow rhymes
And see a better day
Do not believe all that you hear
Investigate your sights
For you create this world, my dear
Reach unimagined heights
I look at how I have to share
This poem with the world
In hope that you will find it fair
My perfect baby girl
Remember that you may be here
But you are from the sky
Don’t let temptation bring you fear
See truth in other’s eyes
Try not to take from this dumb place
Seek only in yourself
That void behind your shining face
Is where you find your help
I know that some believe in god
I am not quite the same
Your spirit is the strongest rod
To beat the dark to shame
Don’t take in things not up to par
You are just what you eat
And influences do leave scares
Be careful which you meet
Love what you do. Do only that
Don’t let this world break you
An arsenal’s under your hat
Make sure you aim it true
I feel a pain in thinking you
Won’t see me for a while
But praying hard is what I’ll do
To make sure that you smile
This rotten world is so unfair
I tried to make it right
And that’s the burden I will bear
Each day and every night
Remember what you’ve heard of me
Is never fully true
Because tho it is hard to see
I did this all for you

My love…
